How The Batmobile Works In Batman: Arkham Knight

By Ishaan . March 10, 2014 . 8:30am

A recent Game Informer magazine feature with Rocksteady touches upon the creation of the Batmobile for Batman: Arkham Knight, and in the feature, creative director Sefton Hill and other members of the team provide a little more insight into the personality that the vehicle will bring to the game.

You’ll be able to call the Batmobile using the L1 button, and it will speed to your location, wherever in Gotham you are. Upon the car’s arrival, any thugs you’re fighting will scatter, should they happen to be in its path, and you’ll be able to jump into its cockpit as it comes racing toward you.

While parked by itself, the Batmobile will have defensive capabilities, too. Should any thugs be daring enough to try and touch or carjack the vehicle, they’ll get a “shocking surprise,” Rocksteady says.

Driving in the Batmobile is Batman: Arkham Knight’s fastest way to  travel across the city. Hill shares that Rocksteady didn’t want to implement a fast-travel system into the game, as traversing across the city yourself is an important part of the experience in the Arkham games. Additionally, while driving, you’ll be able to eject out of the Batmobile at will, and launch yourself into a glide.

Finally, Hill revealed that early prototyping for the Batmobile was done using Batman: Arkham City’s map as an experiment. Unfortunately, Rocksteady found that the game’s streets were too narrow to accommodate the vehicle, and that the streets in Arkham Knight would need to be designed to be wider. Building heights, too, needed to be increased, to accommodate the Batmobile’s ejection seat.

They need to make an iOS tie-in game called Bat-mobile, where you control the Batmoblie.

There is nothing in that sentence that I don’t love. Excetp maybe for “To”. Pesky “To”…

Or make the Wii U version and add the gamepad…

If L1 is to call the Batmobile how would you activate detective mode or, if they’re using the same control scheme as AA/AC, quick fire a batarang? I thought you’d have to equip a car remote or something but if it’s on L1 I’d probably be calling the thing by accident non-stop until I get used to it.

First thing I’m going to do once I get into the Batmobile is drive around singing, “BATMAN!!! DUN DUN DUN DUN BATMAN!!!”

I’m assuming we won’t be able to ram thugs using the Batmobile.

    It doesn’t make sense anyway.

Scuse the french but Fuck the hell yes

  • Shippoyasha

Thank GOD for no fast travel. It ruins the immersion if you can jump around all the time. Even if such features may make sense for super gigantic maps.

Actually fastest way to travel across Gotham is with Batwing, but hey let’s see how fast the Batmobile can go!
