More Details On Corpse Party: Blood Drive’s Story And New Characters

By Sato . March 20, 2014 . 12:55am

5pb are currently working on a sequel to Corpse Party: Book of Shadows, called Corpse Party: Blood Drive, where Ayumi Shinozaki will again find herself involved in dark events—this time, in 3D super-deformed style. Famitsu shares more on the game’s story and new characters.

Corpse Party: Blood Drive takes place two months after the tragedy from the events of Corpse Party: Book of Shadows, where Ayumi finds herself severely ill from the effects of black magic. Ayumi was saved by Naomi Nakashima, who was able to get her into a passing car, and to the hospital, in order to save her life.

While hospitalized, a certain girl visits Ayumi, who claims to be a spiritual associate of her sister, Hinoe. She then tells Ayumi to retrieve the dark tome, the “Book of Shadows,” as a message passed on from Hinoe.

After being dismissed from the hospital, a mysterious young man tells her that she can use the Book of Shadows to bring her dead friends back to life. Upon hearing this, in order to bring her friends back to life, Ayumi heads to the housing complex her blood relative Makina Shinozaki once lived…

The new characters in the game will also be illustrated by Makoto Kedouin as seen in the above image. Other characters who appeared in past Corpse Party games will also be appearing in a similar way.

Here’s a look at some of the key characters of Corpse Party: Blood Drive.

Ayumi Shinozaki, Naomi, Nakashima, and Magari Mizuki

Kuon Niwa is the assistant teacher of Ayumi’s class. She speaks with a calm tone and cares for her students, but there seems to be something mysterious about her.

Misuto Kiriya is the mysterious young man who suddenly appears in front of Ayumi and tells her that she can bring her friends back to life if she retrieves the Book of Shadows.

Corpse Party: Blood Drive will be released for PlayStation Vita on July 24, 2014.

    Can’t wait!

  • lorelai4cuties

    this looks amazing

  • http://epiclyamazing.wordpress.com/ AzureNova

So hoping this gets approved for localization.

  • Raze

Should make all the wall with Saya no Uta style….

  • JuVu

Oh my God, that Kiriya character looks so cool. Considering he tells about the Book of Shadows I guess he is some sort of supernatural being. I love it!

  • Shippoyasha

Great to see the game return to having in game character modeling. That made navigating the game extremely creepy on the PSP.

A lot of Book of Shadows will probably linger with me forever on how creepy it all was. Not to mention the truth of the curse in the story is more dire and evil than it already seemed. I hope they keep delving into that evil part of the story.

    • Kumiko Akimoto

I’ll never get over the ryou bit never or sachiko’s mom

  • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

I may be in the minority here, but I hope we see some locales aside from Heavenly Host in this one. But either way, this looks fantastic.

  • Cursingcomet

    Hell yeah!

  • Ping92

so seiko can be saved? and it looks like magari is not wearing a top in the first pic lol

  • Go2hell66

lol these new characters look a bit over the top

  • Alexandra Cordes

    I cannot even wait. ;w;

  • Kumiko Akimoto

Danmit ayumi it didn’t go right the first time why would it go right the second?

    • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

It probably won’t. But after being responsible for the HS casualties and now her own sister’s demise. Does she really have a choice~?

      • Kumiko Akimoto

HS?She’s not really responsible for anyone not diretly anyways.

        • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

Heavenly Host. She’s the one who had the idea of doing the Sachiko Ever After charm, all the deaths hang on her head. Hinoe was as gifted, if not even more, than Ayumi yet she chose to go on her own in search of clues and got herself involved with BoS. If she’d have confided in Hinoe or sought help rather than tackling something so huge on her own, the outcome might’ve been different~.

The way I see it, Ayumi has a lot of things weighting on her shoulders to warrant the guilt and zeal to pursue something that’s obviously inane~.

          • Kumiko Akimoto

Well yeah but she was only indirectly at fault for most of them. I know she’ll take them as personal and it’ll likely eat her up inside and considering how she looked at the beginning of dead patient she probably fucked up a lot more.

  • Gattai

The epic story continues and finally we get to see more and more mysteries getting to light!

She reminds me of Kanase Kanon frm STB minus the braids. Liking her design the most out of the new characters so here hoping she fares better than the other female teacher of CP….

So…. did Ayumi forget the the BoS ritual failed or something?

    • Rose Spinoza

Ayumi was acting borderline brain damaged in the Blood Drive chapter of BoS so it’s entirely possible -_- . (Really hated the writing in that chapter.)

      • ShootThatWay

Well, I can’t disagree but it’s probably because all the writers were different for BoS but Kedouin
But it could be also that, she was stupidly desperate to do anything.

Probably would have been better if she brought along Satoshi than Naomi. Why have two people who are most prone to the darkening, when Satoshi is immune to anything not related to his sister. But I guess it’s because those two were more desperate than the two males.

Oh well, that chapter brought me to a AyumiXNaomi possibility.

    • Kumiko Akimoto

Maybe she thinks if she can get the book out of the house and to the people who want it, it’ll go better this time.

  • Warren

Welp time to have nightmares again…even though I just got over them from the other games.

  • Göran Isacson

Still not feeling the increase of details in the new chars, but that is NOTHING compared to

*spoiler warning for people who didn’t play Book of Shadows*

how I’m not feeling Ayumis decision to use the effing book of Shadows you utter idiot how many times do you have to get people killed DATA POINTS TO THIS BEING HUGE BAD IDEA I DO NOT WANT TO BE THE PERSON SCREAMING AT A HORROR MOVIE TO NOT BE STUPID BUT SO HELP ME GOD YOU’RE NOT MAKING IT EAS-*

COPIOUS injections of soothing juice later*

What I mean to say is that everything in this summary makes me roll my eyes. True, they have explained that Ayumis guilt is all-consuming, but man… we already DID this, and it ended up terrible. Why ought one believe it will end any better just because some guy in a sweet hoodie says so?

    • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

Because at this point, it’s the only way in which she can find some degree of redemption. She’s the reason they all ended up in HS [leaving behind a nasty body count of friends]. And she’s the reason Hinoe met a brutal, unexpected death. Realistically speaking [even if this is a game], anyone on Ayumi’s shoes would either kill themselves or spend the rest of their Life finding a way to make up for most [if not all] they shit the brought upon others~.

I really don’t think this situation is comparable to a Class B movie where the protagonist fucks up for the sake of fucking up. Ayumi has no choice, she was the catalyst for too much death and Book of Shadows is her only choice~.

      • Göran Isacson

On the one hand, I get that explanation. Super-ultra guilt overwhelming her is “in-character”, I suppose.

But I think the way that Book of Shadows handled the plot, with it’s cheesy way of having her just plain ignore ANY negative possibilities and continue pressing into the dark woods into the ruined mansion despite all logic telling her not to just… I think it soured me on the whole concept of Book of Shadows as a plot-point because it’s set-up was so forced. It’s like… we KNOW how bad it can mess people up now. When I watch a B-movie I mostly just roll my eyes as the characters walk to their own demise in ways that could have been avoided, and that’s exactly how I feel right now. it feels like a contrived set-up to up the body-count. Like, does anyone here honestly believe that there’s a happy ending at the end of all this? I just can’t buy the premise. Any character in this story just feels like a set of body-parts waiting to be dismembered, not actual people who I want to see overcome struggles and hardship. And all because I just can’t buy the premise.

I guess that I saw the first games premise as something like “behold these unfortunate souls, and their desperate struggle to outwit a force of pure malevolence and make it out alive”, whereas every subsequent title just seems like the story goes “HEY KIDS WANNA SEE HOW MUCH PISS AND BLOOD WE CAN STUFF IN THIS GAME? EVERYONE ABOARD THE MEAT-TRAIN *The game developers then don a conductor cap and pull a train whistle out of nowhere*”

It’s all flash, no engagement at this point.

    Yes yes yes yes!!
Xseed, you better be on top of localizing this! Lest you be… Mysteriously sent off to a haunted school perchance. (^_−)−☆

  • http://gamesero.wordpress.com/ Arla

I like the 3D super deformed style. It looks a lot better than the original. I just got to chapter 3 in the original Corpse Party though, so I should really avoid reading up on this sequel…

  • JMaster3000

    Shit brix….. now in 3D.

  • Freakmasta

The lighting makes it extra creepy and almost Silent HIll-ish.. Just the way I like it.

  • smashimi

Meanwhile in Australia I still haven’t been able to play the first one…

    • Detrimont

      or the second…

  • Arrngrim

Having only played up to like Act 3 or something on the DS Corpse Party…man, these games are messed up. :D I mean, I totally get that people enjoy them, but this stuffs pretty horrific… (~.~); I’mma go play my Pokemonz naoh…

  • ShootThatWay

I sense darkness in Yoshiki’s future. Watch out, all those bad ends you’ve cause Ayumi in BloodCovered will come back to bite you.

  • s07195

So is the assistant teacher the ‘replacement’ for Ms. Yui?
…Also, how the hell did no one else in the original cast know about this? How are they gonna play into this?
    *spoilers*
Judging from the opening of Dead Patient, we know at least two people from the original cast are alive by then, with one emotionally dead.

  • WingsOfEternity

So they are finally gonna drop “Satoshi is the MC” act?

  • Alphabet Soup

The 3D style is strange, but I like it! Here’s hoping that this gets localized and that it brings a solid end to the HH plotline!
