Check Out Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn’s Titan Extreme Fight… In 16 Bit

By Sato . March 23, 2014 . 11:31pm

So, we’ve all seen the “retro-spective trailer” for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, that retold the events from the Final Fantasy XIII saga in SNES fashion. Square Enix recently gave Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn some 16-bit love in their latest Letter from the Producer, with a retro version of Titan’s Extreme Mode fight.

Similar to the retro-spective trailer for Final Fantasy XIII, Square Enix made Titan’s Extreme Mode fight look like it came straight out of the Super Famicom, and even went as far as replicating Titan’s moves from the fight.

Funny enough, the trailer even shows the Dragoon being the only one to fall off the edge, which I’m sure some of you guys may have seen at least once or twice (or countless times) for the fight.

Additionally, Square Enix also shared a special Eorzea Collection 2014 Spring video with special guests such as Cid and other key characters dancing off to the Final Fantasy II battle theme song remix featured in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is currently available on PC and PlayStation 3. The PlayStation 4 version will be released on April 14, 2014.

    “Rebron” LOL

    Set in Miami.

… A 16-bit FFMMO doesnt sound half bad.. FF16 maybe

    • Ferofax

By the looks of things, the trailer might actually be one. Ah, but then only the devs would enjoy them…

  • Trotmeister

Not only Dragoon was the only one to die (and in the lamest way possible to boot), he also snatched super rare Nightmare mount. So hilarious, yet so true.

    • Daniel Williams

      He sprints out too :D

    • SuperSailorV

Love how they’re playing it by the community. The dragoon’s the only one who gets hit by the first set of weights, too, lol

  • Monterossa

It’s funny cuz Dragoon sucks. I hate them. they held back the party all the time and dragoon gears drop too often.

    • endril

For me it’s bard drops. Ballad shoes, Ballad Gloves, Ballad Belts. Forever and ever.

      • Randy Marsh

Pff, Bard gear is so rare during my CT adventures. 3 weeks of doing CT. only 2 pieces Ballad gear appear and a total 47 pieces of Onion gear show up to plague me in return! I know, I count.

        • Im lucky to get any scholar gear at all

          • Guest

I just did a CT run yesterday and 3 pieces of dragoon gears dropped in one run.

        • Wesley Kenneth Houpt Mattingly

It really depends on your wants. SE is magical and knows what you want. I see MNK and Healer gear too much on my runs. But its all moot, in 2 days the cap is lifted and CT gear will suck, i110 here we come!

      • Monterossa

I just did a CT run yesterday and 3 pieces of dragoon gears dropped.

    • For me it’s tank gear that always drops. ( ;~;) I want my white mage and caster gears.

  • Randy Marsh

What happened to the Dragoon in the video, really happened to me in Titan EX last Tuesday and took my Nightmare mount also! ;_; There’s a reason why I don’t host party finders for EX Primals anymore! >,<

  • RunningWild1984

This looks way better than the actual game.

  • What happened to the Dragoon’s reputation in these games? Are the generally that bad?

    • Trotmeister

Dragoon is arguably the easiest job to play, it was intentionally made that way, so that’s probably part of the reason. There’s also the fact that before the first big patch (2.1) in December melee attackers were utterly worthless, attacker slots were dominated by Black Mages and Bards who decimated everything with their AoE attacks.

In 2.1 ranged attackers were slightly nerfed while melees had their damage increased. In-fact, well-geared Monk or Dragoon should easily outdamage mages, provided the player knows what he’s doing. These jobs are still occasionally treated with disdain, but it’s nothing serious, there’s no stigma or anything of the sort.

      • I see. This was my first MMO so I chose DRG as well, and I’ve seen how others kinda slack in that role… this is why as a newbie I made sure to ask around if I needed to do anything or be more efficient.

Fortunately, when the PS4 version drops I’m changing to WAR, I’m prepared to take some more responsibility in a new role to make the game fresh.

I know us Dragoons get a bit of flak, just seemed like it’s gotten worse even since I took a break from Realm Reborn.

      • Wesley Kenneth Houpt Mattingly

Only BRD was weakened as far as ranged classes go. A SMN that knows their rotation is top DPS without contest. BLM amd MNK fight for 2nd place, where a MNK can beast on a BLM if the MNK doesn’t have to constantly dodge. Dragoon, followed by BRD are the last 2. You just can’t compete with a SMN’s DoTs. Mine tick for 650 and crit 1000 with raging strikes and thats for 40 seconds with Contagion almost. That doesnt account for my Garuda that hits for 180+, my ruin spam for 200, and Fester for 800-1100 every 6 seconds. I’m also only i82. And as fat as aoe goes, with the addition of blizzard to SMN arsenal in 2.1, I now out aoe a BLM. Granted I burn through MP like crazy, but nothing a Mages Ballad can’t fix since every party should have at least 1 BRD. Downing Turn 4 with 2 good SMN’s is amazinly fast, though I always prefer 1 smn, 1 blm for lb purposes.

        • Trotmeister

BLM now has to wait an extra second or two to get MP from Umbral Ice. Among other things, that means you can’t do two Flares back to back. I consider this a significant nerf.

          • Wesley Kenneth Houpt Mattingly

I Triple Flare all day, what are you talking about? Plus Flare should only be in your rotation with big mobs, otherwise you are wasting DPS.a
You can also Quadruple Flare, but what do I know…

    • Ferrick

yes and no, yes because there are aloooootttttt of dragoons who doesn’t even know their skill rotations, and kept using stun attacks while giving the tanks and the rest of the party headaches when fighting a boss that NEEDs to be stunned at some phases, and sometimes some dragoons ignore heavy thrust entirely when that’s what they need to use to start the skill rotation.

no, because good dragoons can easily spearhead (literally) the raid with good dps and skill rotation, and their skills also strengthen other dragoon’s and bard’s dps as well

  • Haha I love these!

  • CobbleCake

Wasn’t that break off attack supposed to be a giant red ring not a circle?

  • Ardus

That was great. As a proud dragoon main i found the dragoon getting hit with every AoE pretty funny.

  • TerrenceEncore Jones

I would prefer to play all the FF games with 16-bit graphics.

  • Brion Valkerion

Does not show enough people getting their connection tested by the ground sparkly tremors (aka dieing) though. Then it would REALLY be accurate haha.

  • Wesley Kenneth Houpt Mattingly

I love the Meteor and Virus sound effects from FFIV.
