The Next Kunio-Kun Game Will Be Set In A Fantasy RPG Setting

By Sato . March 23, 2014 . 11:00am

Kunio-kun is the name of the series in Japan that has brought us games such as Super Dodgeball Brawlers, Renegade, and River City Ransom. While Kunio-kun and his fellow delinquents usually fight thugs with their bare fists, it looks like their next game for Nintendo 3DS will be putting them in a whole other realm.

The trailer for Hot-Blooded Magic Story shows Kunio and others from his crew gearing up in RPG gear, in what looks like and old-school RPG setting. It looks like they’ll be going up against an evil wizard by the name “Ya Maada” in an ultimate showdown.

Hot-Blooded Magic Story will be released via the Nintendo eShop for 3DS in spring 2014.

Next Kuni… ah dammit I tought it was a new Ni No Kuni game :(

  • 3PointDecoupage

Im guessing I wont be the last person who clicked this article bcause they misread it as Ni no kuni.

      U r right

  • Noelemahc

Goshdarnit, none of the 3DS Kunio games got released in English yet, and there’s more coming? We’re not getting any breaks, huh?

    Nice Gate of Babylon reference.

So uh…first of all… the image above the video, Kunio’s armors reeeaally looks like Adol’s classic armor, minus the headgear and the cape. (but still, it is a…let’s say… rather normal design for anime armor from the 80’s).
Second… why in the f does Kunio’s legs from his sprite resemble white croissants wearing glasses?!

    • Seizui

Heh. I was just thinking that regarding Kunio’s armor. I was like ‘Oh hai Adol—wait what?’

    • megaten666

      AHHAHA!!! XD
Cannot unsee, man! Cannot unsee! :D

This makes me sad. There are a lot of Kunio-kun games that have not come out to the US such as the ‘Renegade’ remake using the ‘RCR’ sprites. And now, this game is introduced. God, I want this game badly. Also, I think the worst part is that the Kunio-kun games are all region-locked as well.

This is going to be awesome if it gets localized.

If only the west gets even a fraction of these games :<

So they went back to 2D NES sprites. At least upgrade them to 16-bit. Or use the NEO-GEO Dodgeball game’s sprite design. Or just continue with the 3D treatment the series got during the Nintendo DS times.

I love Kunio-kun Nekketsu games, but why the de-evolution?
