Capcom And Treasure Working Together Again On Gaist Crusher God

By Spencer . April 3, 2014 . 11:00pm

Gaist Crusher is a mixed media series from Capcom and Sin & Punishment developer Treasure. The Nintendo 3DS game launched last year and we think it may have had a hard time at retail since it didn’t chart the week it launched. Dengeki reported that the previous game sold a mere 8,053 units, so we’re pretty surprised that it’s getting a follow up.

Gaist Crusher God is slated for release this fall. The Nintendo 3DS game with have new Gaists like God Hino Kaguchi.

Capcom also showed silhouettes for God Chronos, God Baldur, God Atum, and God Brahma.

Perhaps, the ongoing manga and anime series will raise Gaist Crusher’s popularity before the game launches.

Capcom can only hope to recoup their losses…

  • Eric Rodman

VGChartz says it sold 32,383 copies which isn’t quite as bad but there’s still no way it could have even broke even.

    • Crevox

VGChartz is not exactly a good source from what I hear.

    • JonathanisPrimus

The first game could sell 250k, and it might not break even. All of the retailers have already put the game in the bomba bins. You can buy new copies from Amazon for 800 yen, when the game launched in December at 5000 yen.

  • Slickyslacker

I feel like this is one of those series that the developers just aren’t going to give up on, in spite of crippling losses.

It seems like a lot of fun, in any case.

  • SetzerGabbiani

Is this Gaist Crusher G? CAPCOM really wants this to work. These must be the bosses left out of the original game because of “time constraints”.

    • Crevox

It’s probably just similar to Monster Hunter. They probably had this version planned and in development from the beginning, and they’re hoping this new version “re-release” will attract more attention than the previous.

It’s likely that this new version of the game costs very little additional funding to make due to them using the same engine. Some updates, QoL changes, new stuff, and hey look it’s a “new” full price game. Capcom gets another shot in the market, or in MH’s case, just another large batch of sales.

      • Reki Honoo

And the series might come over to the west if we can show capcom that we care about it.

        • Crevox

Monster Hunter is already confirmed to be coming in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.

Gaist Crusher will not. The game bombed in Japan despite having a ton of media to promote it. It makes no sense for Capcom to even try.

          • Reki Honoo

Well did monster hunter not do well at first, when the first game came out in japan? And also, sometimes a game that does not do well in japan, does even better in the west.

          • d19xx

They can do their classic betrayalthon tactic. Bring it on a Playstation platform. When it gets popular jump ship and make it a Nintendo exclusive.

          • Reiswindy

Hardly “their” classic tactic. Many others have done that with Nintendo and nobody bats an eye.

  • Reki Honoo

    I just want this localized

  • Haganeren

Am i selfish if i just want Capcom to let go Treasure in order to have more “personal” games from them? … Yeah, maybe i am…

    • You know, Treasure are probably grateful to have something to work on, especially when other small studios are being forced to go mobile.

      • Haganeren

Yeah, i know i should be glad for them for this very reason but… It’s hard to shake this feeling i have…

  • God damn. Someone at Capcom has balls.

    • ForteWily

Clearly…. but you know… That is the kind of Capcom that I like. It’s the one that thought that Phoenix Wright is a good idea, and good enough to localize. It’s the one that is more than willing to take a risk and make a gamble.

I miss that kind of Capcom.

  • Abel_Nightroad

They want to follow Yokai Watch example.

  • Tonton Ramos

So there’s a season 2 for the Gaist Crusher anime? oh boy!

    • Vash bane

has it got better? I gave it a go months ago but it wasn’t really that interesting.

      • Tonton Ramos

Me too still watching it for chickenhead BTW

  • d19xx

“Capcom: this is where we spend all the Monhun profits. Suck it nerds!”

    • J_Joestar

at least that would be reinvesting in the same platform that got those profits.

  • thaKingRocka

The game looks like its action is quick, responsive, and tight, but there’s no way for me to say for sure unless I play it. I would like to give it a go.

I really hate the design aesthetic, though. It looks so generically designed to fit in at the kiddie section of the Japanese arcade. I hate that font that they use for the title. I think the design and packaging of the product as a whole may have limited the audience too much. Is there a demo?

  • Kioku

It seems they are following Level 5 titles such as Danball Senki and Youkai Watch.
This is good news for me and I love the anime.

  • Tincho Kudos

I think they already had this planned and in development before the launch of the first one. Maybe this one can succeed if the manga and anime are still ongoing

  • E.T.993

Wait, that was made by Treausure!?HRDSHSETSTHRDRSHFWESDET!Localise it!

  • Renaldi Saputra

    sasuga over-budget Capcom

  • J_Joestar

this is quite a surprise, wonder if the anime/manga are even doing well to justify it.

  • Will Jay

Well, I’m glad I didn’t buy the original if this is an updated re-release.

…Then again, it’s on a huge discount right now on one of my import sites…
