Gravity Rush’s Kat, Raven, And Yunica Drop Into Destiny of Spirits

By Sato . April 3, 2014 . 3:51am

Sony Computer Entertainment recently released Destiny of Spirits in Japan, a free-to-play title for PlayStation Vita, where you collect spirits, but the types of spirits you can get depends where you physically are. 4Gamer gives us a look at the game’s upcoming collaboration with Gravity Rush.

005 006 009

From April 3rd to May 7th, Destiny of Spirits will be giving out Gravity Rush’s Kat, Raven and Yunica as characters that can be summoned as spirits.

While you can find and fight various “Zone Boss” spirits in different regions around the world, there are hidden bosses in the world map, such as “Jin,” shown in the above image, who was illustrated by Gravity Rush designer Shunsuke Saito. Upon defeating them, you can get them as your own summons.

001 004

These collaboration spirits can be summoned through the “Limited Summon” feature, where you’ll be able to select a specific summon from the menu.

So far, we’ve seen summons from Knack, and Gravity Rush, but you can expect to see more, as the 4Gamer report indicates that plenty more characters and content from various companies will be showing up in the near future.

Destiny of Spirits is available now around the world via PlayStation Network.

Did anybody outside Japan tried this?

    • Addicting, it’s much better and playable compare to social games nowadays. Even though you have to wait for your spirits to restore their health you can continue to play as long as you have other spirits. It’s surprisingly strategic if you want to keep your spirits alive as there element weakness.

Also since this is out of beta, the server is still a bit iffy so the admin gives away paid in-game credit if they do a sudden maintenance.

      • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

To be fair, the waiting isn’t all that bad and on raid encounters, you don’t even have to wait for HP to refill unless you win the encounter~.

        • Yeah I was trying to think of a way to say that but pretty much this.

      • SlickRoach

As someone who’s addicted to Puzzle & Dragons naturally this game is like crack to me. I especially like the Sony collabs and the restoration of health as opposed to the Stamina bar in P&D. I hope this game really takes off like P&D as well, I’ll support it if stays consistent in updates and maintenance.

      • Abysswalker90

What spirits did you manage to get?

        • GR? 1 spy costumed Kat and 2 spy costumed raven. Sucks. My friend got 2 SR in a row -_-

    • michel

Yes, there are a lot of players from around the world. It has been available for a week or so.

  • John Hayabusa

I miss Gravity Rush so much. It was the first game that I managed to get all the trophies, including those from the DLCs. I want GR2 now.

    • safeto20scroll

      Sooooon friend, sooooooooooooooooooooooooooon

    • BeatTheGG

Same here. Gravity Rush took my breath away and Kat as stolen my heart. I’m glad to see them in this interesting little piece here though.

As for GR2? In due time my friend! :D

      • xavier axol

you love kat, I love kat everyone loves kat. she’s awesome!

  • Luis Es.

The game is available in NA and EU as well so it’s not just Japan.

  • I got trolled. I summoned two spy costumed raven twice in a row. Well at least i can exceed level when I max out one of them.

    • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

Where did you summon GR stuff from? Last night I only had three options: the second one summoned a random leaf spirit~.

      • Summon section, it became available after the last maintenance.

  • DanijoEX ♬ the Cosmic Owl

Destiny of Spirits is pretty good. There is alot of variety in it.

  • Jadfish

I had Gravity Panther in the demo of Destiny of Spirits, and it wrecked abosutely everything. I was super sad to see that I had lost all my spirits from the demo when I started the full release game.

    • Somebodyissilent

She’s back now. Go get her.

      • Testsubject909

If you’re lucky enough. She is an SR spirit and the odds are against you in getting an SR.

And if you do, you have a 1/2 chance of getting her.

        • Somebodyissilent

I want to get them all.

  • TheExile285

Holy cow, that 4th pic *__*

    DoS is pretty addicting.

    • I agree. That picture is beautiful =^_^=

  • れいか

    I got Yunica… XD yay..

    • michel

trade it to me in exchange for a Common!… :)

      • れいか

        nuuu T A T

    • want to trade for spy costumed raven? I need another wood(?) element!

      • れいか

Sorry, i want to keep this one XD

  • Carlos Luis Ayala

    • Ben Sylvia

Oh god they have her alt costumes too.

      Goodby money. T.T

      • Testsubject909

There’s Gravity Panther, Lady of the Depth, Spy Costume Kat and Kat.

And then there’s Yunica and Spy Costume Yunica

        Raven and Spy Costume Raven.

  • Prinny Dood

I wish they would announce gravity rush 2 dood!

  • I so thought it was news on GR2 when I saw the picture, and the title started with “Gravity Rush’s” lol.

How is DoS anyway? I’ve looked at it a bit but haven’t played it. Might start if it’s good.

    • Somebodyissilent

It’s free to play jump in. It’s pretty good.

    • TheExile285

Kind of slow in the beginning but its good.

      • ShadowDivz

        This. So much.

    • Testsubject909

As the others stated. Also, sad fact, there’s a cap as to how much spirits you can hold and even if you dump money to increase your cap. There’s a cap to how much you can increase your cap. Meaning you’ll still need to prioritize which Spirit you want rather then go all collector on this.

Good news though: All the Gravity Rush spirits are pretty good.

  • chroma816

    Dat Kat.

    DAT JIN. Holy shit.

    • Testsubject909

There’s also Spy Costume Kat, Yunica and Raven.

      • chroma816

I got Spy Raven today. Really wanted Kat, though.

Will we be able to have the summons that we get even after the crossover is over?

        • Somebodyissilent

Man I hope so. I’d buy all of at the same time with cash if I could. Love Gravity Rush.

          • chroma816

  • Alexandra Cordes

    This is just lovely.

  • deadMastershiro

Why are u torturing me i don’t have money theres too many games!

    • Somebodyissilent

It’s free to play. Kinda. You need some tokens to get them but you can get tokens from just logging in each day.

      • admin are pretty generous with them so you can get about 35 token if the server mess up.

        • Somebodyissilent

Yep. I kinda hope it keeps up.

          • Testsubject909

Somehow, just keep hoping the servers constantly screw up.

It’d also be good for them to have more options for those Destiny Orbs then just the 3$ and 4$ set.

Also, from my understanding, the Asian sector has tons of promo stuff going on for Destiny of Spirits which explains why they’re so high leveled so rapidly.

We need more promo of this stuff here.

Right now, as the Raid boss battles are going, it seems highly unfair for the American sector and probably the European sector as well.

I mean. Inti (America Raid Boss) starts with a double damage hit and his special is a hit-all. Balabog (Europe Raid Boss) has a hit-all special.

Miroku? He’s a joke. He can only single hit, whether it’s his puny regular attack or his puny special.

So on top of not having any means of boosting ourselves, we have to deal with a higher encounter rate with a stronger Raid Boss.

      • deadMastershiro

Only problem is i don’t have a vita.

        • Somebodyissilent

Well save up. This game will not cost you a dime. Unless you want it to.

  • Learii

    I can’t wait for this

  • Somebodyissilent

    Got Kat and Raven back.

  • OrangeArmy

I got Gravity Panther and it is pretty badass, it looks great next to my Aoin collection, sexy female Zhuge Liang best Zhuge Liang.

    • Testsubject909

I got Lady of the Depth, the SR Light elemental.

      Cost 5.0, 1160HP, 190ATK, 160SPD.
Battle Skill: Looming Disaster, costs 50 SP
Stops movement of the target’s Action Energy Gauge for 12 seconds (All Enemies)
      Support Skill: Gravity Rush
Raises SPD by 26% for each Light Spirit (All Allies)

I saw Gravity Panther. I think I got the better deal of the two. But I’d still love to get my hands on Gravity Panther, just to make it match with my Hades for a 52% SPD boost and two heavy Dark elemental hitter.

      • ishyg

Can we trade? I got two Gravity Panther.

        • Testsubject909

I only have one Lady of the Depth.

I’ve got quite a few Rares though that I’d want to just toss out to make space. If you’d be good with trading one Gravity Panther for a few rares that’d be nice for me.

        • Testsubject909

PS. To make conversation easier. What’s your PSN?

          • ishyg

Crap someone traded me for it. Sorry about it, damn shoe camp got me off my Vita and PC for so long, not to mention the nomikai hours before. Damn, it’s been 2 days.

But for future preference (since I’m still going for Gravity Rush spirits, I might get another spirit that interests you) my PSN is ishralene09.

  • nonscpo

So the game is free to play, is this anouncement for free in game items or paid in game items? Are they trying to promote it

    • Testsubject909

      Kind of both.

Getting these summons requires Destiny Orbs. Destiny Orbs can be gained either as set login rewards after subsequent logins, as an entry reward (you get 30 free Destiny Orbs) as compensation for server issues (35 destiny orbs per day when the servers break down, we’ve had two days like this now, so 70 orbs) and as a purchasable item.

To note: Advanced or Rare (as in Knack or Gravity Rush summons) costs 30 Destiny Orbs.

  • Tinye

I really have been enjoying Destiny of Spirit. Wasn’t sure about it until I tried it, it’s a fun little game.

  • Silmer1a

I kept hearing about this game and going to give it a try but have some questions! Does it matter which version of DoS you get (Asia, NA or EU)? And since it is a location-based type game, does that mean I am so limited on spirits because I live in Australia? Still trying to work out how the game works

    • Testsubject909

You’re limited by the area you’ll be set in. America, Europe or Asia.

Those will determine your starting spirit (which you’ll probably toss out/sell/use as fusion fodder) and your summonable spirits (both regular summons and Advanced Summons).

Outside of that, you can get spirits randomly in battle which opens up the possibilities to any spirit you can encounter as regular enemies and since you can continue to free up space until you reach around the world, you can theoretically get quite a large amount of spirits.

The main issue’ll be your Spirit capacity, you can only hold 20 spirits at first. Some boss rewards will increase your capacity by 1. And if you go with purchasing more spirit capacity with Destiny Orbs, you increase it by 5 per 10 orb spent and you’ll be able to increase it to a cap of 65 or so, from then on, increasing it further will require you to fight bosses for it.

And then there’s trading. Trading mind you can only be done between players you’ve befriended, and you’ll aim to befriend a lot of people anyway since it confers multiple benefits, lowered rental cost for renting spirits which you might end up doing every battle due to it’s convenience and usefulness.

Trading opens up and there’s Destiny Summoning which you do every day, once a day, to summon up a spirit that you and your chosen partner will both have. Choose a partner of a different region if you want more variety.

There’s also Hunting which you do based on the location on the world map you’re currently in, in the game, to hunt spirits pertaining to that locale, if I’m not incorrect.

Hunting requires you to move in real life, about 2 km or so should get you 1 spirit to hunt, 10km gets you about 3-4 I think. I know one trip to Montreal which is about 200km for me got me 5 spirits to hunt, so it’s a bit weird.

Also for Raid Bosses, Raid Bosses work in a world apart from itself. You can use even KOed spirits to fight as for the purpose of fighting the Raid Boss, your spirits will be at full health and whatever damage/death they take there won’t count towards the main game. So whenever you can, chip down those Raid Bosses.

If you want an easier time fighting the Raid Bosses, my suggestion would be the Asia Sector.

The Raid Bosses for America’s sector is bullshit. Does double damage on his opening strike and has a hit-all special. Europe is less bullshit, with a hit-all special and regular attack power. Asia is stupid easy with just a single hitting special and regular attack power.

Asia also has all the Waifu spirits, the very desirable Takemikazuchi light spirit which has a passive atk buff that affects all types paired with great HP, ATK and SPD that I believe can be gained through regular summoning. And also Barong, which is the best tank spirit as his passive ability reduces the first damage your spirits take in battle down to 1HP of damage.

      • Silmer1a

Wow thank you so much for the helpful info! So I can just go download DoS NA and set starting in-game area to Asia, is this correct? And all spirits will be obtainable except the locale hunting spirits I assume since I don’t think Australia has one?

Also, do you really need to travel around the world to open the area on globe of Earth like in the screenshot?

        • Testsubject909

I downloaded the NA version and it set me automatically as America.

Either it’s dependent on the version you download (NA PSN, EU PSN or JP PSN for example).

Or it depends on where you are in the world when you play it… My guess is the version you download.

Advanced Spirits don’t appear as random encounters and getting the Advanced Spirits of other region will require trading.

Australia will probably be shoved to either the EU region, as far as I can guess.

You don’t need to travel at all. I’ve unlocked parts of Russia and parts of England while staying at home. You defeat the boss of each square zone to unlock other square zones to go to, and you defeat the red zone boss to enable you to move out of the current area unto other areas, that’s how you travel around in-game.

          • Silmer1a

Cool! Thanks again for the helpful advise. Will try to download Asia version then and see how I go with it =)

          • Testsubject909

Best of luck. The game is entertaining despite it’s small annoyances.

The main annoyances for me being the Destiny Orb cost for things (to be expected, it’s Free to play). The cap of Spirits you can hold.

And the cap of breaking the limit of Lv Caps on your spirits.

          • darke

Australia is in the EU group as usual.

Also the game rather then being free-to-play seems to be play-to-wait. Waiting for the bloody thing to resync/retransmit/do-something-with-the-server after each combat takes longer then the combat does! I gave up and deleted it after an hour, most of the time spent waiting at it’s ‘loading’ screens. :(

        • Testsubject909

Final Tip before I go out to meet up with a buddy.

Prince of (element) spirits are purely for merging. Use them for high exp gain.

Queen of (element) spirits are also purely for merging. Nobody’s found anything special about them except higher exp gain.

Jokers of (element) spirits are also purely for merging. They should be conserved and only used to push the max level of a spirit of the same element.

When a spirit reaches it’s max level, it can have it’s level cap increased by fusing with the exact same spirit or with a joker of the same element.

Common spirits can increase their level cap once, to a max of 20.

Uncommon Spirits can increase their level cap twice, to a max of 35.

Rare Spirits can increase their level cap thrice, to a max of 50.

Super Rare spirits can increase their level cap four times, to a max of 65.

          • Silmer1a

            Cheers for the info! =D

          • ishyg

Ah damn, I wasted my Joker! Thanks for this info!

          • ishyg

A question though, will the max level cap increase if I fuse a lvl1 spirit with a max level spirit?

  • ShadowDivz

To be honest, i care only for Kat. And how exactly do we find the hidden bosses? I would love to have Jin on my team.

  • Kyle81290

i had 60 orbs and got Lady of the Depth and Gravity Panther xD

    • Testsubject909

I’m so freaking jelly of you right now.
