Persona 4 With Teddie’s Original Voice Arrives On PS3 On April 8

By Spencer . April 3, 2014 . 3:50pm

imageAs expected, Persona 4 will be re-released as a PlayStation 2 classic for PlayStation 3. Atlus confirmed the news and set April 8 as the date.

This version of Persona 4 doesn’t have Marie, the ski trip scene, garden or the scooters from Persona 4: Golden. All of that content and one extra ending are exclusive to the Vita release.

What’s different? Chie and Teddie’s voices. Persona 4 and Persona 4: Golden have different voice actors for those two characters.

There goes the main reason to buy a vita.

    • DemonShadowX

Somewhat….. I think the extra content for Golden is really good and worth it. But I’m sure this is going to make people consider whether or not to get the Vita

    • http://www.thejaystack.com/ Jon Stachewicz

Ys Celceta is on PS3 now?

    • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

One game alone doesn’t warrant a console purchase. Fortunately, the PS3 still doesn’t have GR, Tearaway, Persona 4: The Golden, Ys: Celceta, Zero Escape: Virtue’s last reward, Danganropa: THH, Soul Sacrifice, Muramasa: Rebirth and so on and so forth~.

    • Earthjolly

Golden is still the definitive version

    • http://burnpsy.wordpress.com/ burnpsy

…I don’t consider P4G the main reason to buy a Vita.

  • DemonShadowX

Yeah just got the email. If I didn’t have a Vita and Golden I would get it. Considering this and Devil Summoner 1 are getting the PSN treatment, it gives me hope that the rest of the SMT PS2 games are coming our way…. I recently sold my collection cause I didn’t have a working PS2 and didn’t really have time, or want to get one….

  • Makoto Yuki

Kinda dissapoint a little bit, I was hoping they could do st like P4G HD or at least bring P4 to PS3 sooner

    • rurifan

Personally I think they’ve rehashed P3 and P4 plenty already. Time to give it a rest and release a new game.

      • disgaea36

        amen to that lol

      • DesmaX

As much as I would want a release with Trophy Support, I gotta have to agree with you.

Maybe a HD Collection for the PS4 after P5 releases

  • KingGunblader

Of course you wait until after I get the Vita version. Very sneaky, Atlus!

  • rurifan

Am I read this wrong or is it just saying that the PS2 rerelease on PS3 is … the same as the PS2 game?

(Not that I’d even be able to tell one bad dub voice from another.)

    • Abysswalker90

Well what did you expect? o_o

      • rurifan

I wouldn’t have expected anything else, which is why I was scratching my ahead over the way this was described.

      • Zenthos

Golden content on this version as well? Its not right to release the version with more content on the vita, but to leave it out on the ps3.

        • M’iau M’iaut

Simply the emulated version of the original PS2 game. Which doesn’t preclude P4G in the future.

        • Alestaos

Techincally speaking as someone that bought the Golden version for my vita and after all the advertising they did for it saying it was the ultimate edition made specially for the vita id be very pissed. Since thats false advertising and also unfair on the players who supported them thay way. However since this is a basic port from ps2 to ps3 i think its fine for them to do it there way. Also you dont think its right the vita version has content desgined specifically for that version? And you want that to be included on the port because you dont think its right well then if they included it on the ps3 version i dont think thats right and want a full refend for P4 Golden since they misled me. See it from both sides not just your own because you may not have a vita or golden. I love the series and i bought golden before i had a vita to show support.

    • DemonShadowX

Basically this is the original PS2 game being released into PS3. While the Vita has a better version.

  • Abysswalker90

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GIVE US NOCTURNE ALREADY!!! Oh, AND KING ABADDON TOO!

    • BlinkingRune

I would sacrifice a Jack Frost for a portable version of Nocturne, though. Grinding is so much easier and enjoyable when you can move around and take it with you.

    • MasterScrub

Nocturne probably isn’t going to happen because of Dante, unless they go through the trouble of localizing the version with Raidou.

      • Aspenharls

I would love that. Dante is cool and all, but Raidou has one of my favorite character designs out of anything.

      • Hound

I can’t imagine that being too impossible of a task. There are no voices in Nocturne.

To be honest, Dante didn’t fit the Nocturne universe very well anyway. He’s just.. there. Wandering around an empty word claiming some nonsense about wanting to stop you if you act too evil or something (and to hell with that minigame you’re forced to play where he uses stinger and instantly kills you if you make a mistake.) And if you messed up and recruited him into your party by going through a majority of the infamous Labyrinth of Amala and buying his services, he’s a rather bad choice for the last few bosses.

Raidou’s skill set-up is far more suitable for an unlockable party member (either one of them permanently takes up a precious demon slot until you complete the rest of the game.)

        • MasterScrub

Wait, really? I could have sworn that I heard that Raidou was just a reskin of Dante.

    • dark-kyon

i believe hearing what with nocturne they cannot get running the game fine in the emulator, you know the ps2 emotion engine make severals games hard to emulate.

  • M’iau M’iaut

Folks, this is a re-release of a game for which folks darn well know what the package includes. No need for our umteenth dozen language debate.

    • Keksus

I still feel the need. Because for the PS2 version it was obvious why they couldn’t include JP dub. But now as a digital release? Why? I won’t spend money on a game I already own. If I want to play it on a modern system I could just use PCSX2 and even get an undub version. This is one of these cases: The official release has to offer something pirates can’t. And currently pirates are able to offer more.

      • STOPAC

I’m sorry but how do you read something and still comment on it obliviously as if you didn’t know what it was?
It’s a ps2 classic. It’s an exact image of the game modified to work on ps3 emulation software. No ps2 classic, or ps1, or virtual console game has ever had that done.

      • M’iau M’iaut

For the same reasons folks have been buying plenty of other digital copies of things which already have had physical releases. It allows them to play a game for which physical prices have gone stupid, someone doesn’t want to risk damage to their physical copies, they are too lazy to grab it off the shelf, or heaven forbid they wish to send some more small support a company’s way.

It was always a simple process to import a system and a game and then find a printed translation. That’s the way many played imports before the days of hard drives, mod hacks and other activities which do nothing to support the industry either in Japan, Europe or the States. One never needed to be a pirate to play Persona 3 or 4 in Japanese.

Why should Atlus be expected to go back and do work that isn’t asked of anyone making classic games more available. Hell, it has been hard enough to get everyone involved to understand the interest that is out there for back catalog. A goal here is to support and appreciate the industry, not try and shoot it.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/xxHiryuuxx Kaleido-Ruby

Eh. Got it already. With a PS2 that works.

And it’s superior that way – all of those PS2 classics have resolution issues.

    • rurifan

The PS2 classics emulation feels super clunky too. As much as I’d love to throw away my old PS2, this is no suitable replacement.

      • http://www.youtube.com/user/xxHiryuuxx Kaleido-Ruby

Yea, you’re better off keeping that thing alive as long as you can.

      • Kayseur

Really? I was considering buying Devil Summoner at some point (assuming we’re getting it sooner or later in Europe), but since my PS2 still work like a charm, maybe I shouldn’t then. Never tried the emulator.

        • M’iau M’iaut

The issue certainly isn’t limited to Persona or the PS2 downloads. The emulator included PS3s were just as wonky. It’s why I pray every night in thanks that my 60gig still lives.

          • disgaea36

I have yet to encounter those problems except for the recent growlanser generations I can see scan lines when the anime cut scenes play but all in all it’s just like the ps2

        • DesmaX

I do think I noticed some input delay while playing Odin Sphere. But it could be how the game plays too

          • disgaea36

that’s just the game itself. Game was glitchy on the ps2 also

    • DesmaX

To be fair, I can play them just fine. You can set them to run at their normal resolution

    • Minos

I had like 5 saves of Persona 3 because they keep getting deleted and/or corrupted…

  • QueenDecim

Teddie’s new VA wasn’t the issue, it’s Chie’s. You can literally hear the fat bitchiness in the new VAs voice. It’s terrible.

    • rurifan

Haha; I really can’t appreciate any kind of dub, but the mental image of a “fat bitch voice” behind cute Chie made me laugh.

    • AuraGuyChris

But she’s Agnes! And she loves her steaks even more in Golden!

      • Ty Arnold

Being Agnes isn’t really a good thing as far as I’m concerned. Her voice was unacceptable.

    • NTaiyokun

I respect Erin Fitzgerald for most of her roles, but in terms of Chie, it’s not a very good choice. At least I got her to say fsteak over a LittleKuriboh stream (Though she said eff-stake, sooo)

Basically, it’s the same way I feel about Bryce Papenbrook playing Eren.

You guys heard about that right?

      • Revorse

I like Bryce so I’m willing to give him a chance. But based off his prior work I definitely didn’t even consider him for Eren. But I feel like Eren might have been a bit hard to cast for. So I’m willing to give FUNi some slack.

    • Skye Johnson

Basically. I still respect the VA for her work, but she really didn’t fit as Chie at all. I appreciate the work Atlus put in to redub, but it’s a pity there weren’t original/new voice track options (I’d take no voice over the new bits of Chie dialogue than dealing with new!Chie’s voice). Best I can get is just turning off the volume entirely, but then I miss out on the voice acting I do like. Alas.

Teddie’s new VAnever bothered me—you can tell the difference if you pay attention (and I prefer the original) but I don’t have issue with it.

      • God

I actually got used to it, i remember i hated her voice at first, but after playing Golden (wich i played thrice, while i only played vanilla twice) and Arena, you just grow used to it.

        • Aspenharls

The funny thing is, I never noticed in Arena, but I couldn’t help but notice when watching the anime dub/Golden.

        • Skye Johnson

I haven’t played Arena yet, so perhaps she’s more tolerable there.

      • Abysswalker90

I have no idea what you people are talking about.
Chie’s original voice sounds like she’s constantly bored, and is about to fall asleep at any minute or something. It’s the most unfitting voice possible, I could never get used to it.
The newer one though is lightyears more fitting, and is actually quite close to the Japanese dub – an energetic tomboy type. I don’t know what’s the deal with the fat bitch everybody’s talking about, but I’m starting to suspect we’re hearing two completely different voices somehow.

        • Skye Johnson

As always, I think it’s a manner of preference, and it just so happens there are quite a few people who share the same opinions as I do. There are some people who get used to it (or at least tolerate it), and some people who won’t ever be able to stand it. I’m usually fine with dub changes, but Chie’s new voice just grates my nerves, which is quite unusual.

(You find the same issues in a variety of other programs as well. Everyone’s going to have an opinion on who’s the most fitting Jean Valjean on Broadway, etc.)

So, for instance, when I hear and compare both voices, I see the old Chie’s voice as having the more fitting “tomboy voice” (the lower pitch definitely helps seal it for me!) The other voice actor sounds like she’s trying too hard to sound energetic. I’m not sure about the “fat bitch” statement either, but I am agreeing with the sentiment that her voice is personally grating to me and unfitting.

Whether it’s close to the original Japanese dub or not isn’t personally relevant to me (I’m more for the delivery/talent vs. how close they are to the original Japanese voice actors when evaluating the suitability of voices), though I understand the appeal to some people (and it can often be very neat when they match up!)

    • http://people.ign.com/rob1610 rob1610

I never played the original, so I just jumped on YouTube and had a listen. Teddie’s voice sounds the same in both games to me, but Chie’s is a world of difference. I think I prefer the original over Erin Fitzgerald’s version in Golden, Arena and the anime. While Erin’s take on Chie might suit her better, I just can’t stand Chie’s voice that way.

  • MrJechgo

    *facepalm*

Porting the better Vita version would have been a better deal for us than the outdated PS2 version. You think the voices are problematic? First off, they’re not problematic, quit complaining about it already; Erin Fitzgerald and Sam Riegal do an excellent job. Second, the extra content could have been a welcomed addition and finally, the Vita got better sound and visuals, as the PS2 port WAS updated.

On a sidenote, P4 Golden for PS3 + P4 Golden for Vita for free, using cross-play… talk about a missed opportunity.

    • rurifan

PS2 classics are not “ported”, they’re running in an emulator.

    • 罪罰

      *facepalm*
THEY DON’T PORT GOLDEN BECAUSE IT WOULD FUCKING KILL MORE VITA SALES.

      • DesmaX

Aaand it would require effort from them

I mean, to do a PS2 Classic they just need to send the game to sony

      • MrJechgo

I’m so sorry, but… what Vita sales?

        • Jormangund

I’m pretty sure that that’s the exact point of @managedcorn:disqus.

        • Mr_SP

The Vita has sold 8 million units. That’s 2 million more than the Wii U. (That’s also more than the PS4, and much more than the XBOne, but that’s an unfair comparison) Yeah, that’s only about 20% of 3DS sales, but, yes, Vita is an actual platform that sells units, runner-up though it may be.

Despite that, sales of P4G are 3/4s of the sales of the original series, which is pretty tidy for a remake. Even FF X|X-2 HD can’t compare to it’s original’s sales, despite including stuff that the US has never gotten the chance to see.

Still, I don’t think it would kill Vita sales. All of the people who would buy a Vita for P4 Golden have already done so. At this point, P4G is simply the game that gets recommended to everyone with a Vita.

          • Somebodyissilent

Wait the Vita has outsold the Wii U?

          • Mr_SP

Not in America, but everywhere else in the world? Yes.

          • MrJechgo

It may outsell the Wii U… but the 3DS outsells the Vita 6 to 1.

Why bother with a handheld that CANNOT outsell its major competitor?

          • Mr_SP

Why play a PS3? Why play an Xbox 360? Why play a XBOne? Why play a Wii U? None of them are highest selling consoles of their generation. That means they’re all crap, right?

Why play Saint’s Row or Battlefield? GTA and Call Of Duty sell so many more, right?

Why play on video game consoles at all, when PCs outsell them dozens of times over?

Sony are going to bother with their handheld, because it’s actually making them money, and they like money. I bother with it because it has some good games, and I like good games.

You have the right to purchase, or not purchase, a console at your leisure. But claiming it’s bad because it’s *only* the second highest selling platform? Please don’t make judgements on such petty details.

          • Earthjolly

Thats stupid. You might as well say Why bother with a WiiU if it got outsold by its major competitor in 4 fucking months

      • arkane9

Atlus is third-party. Why would they care about that? I don’t understand why they didn’t release Golden for both PS3 and Vita, like Square Enix did with FFX & X-2 HD.

    • http://danierc-polloconpapas.tumblr.com/ Eduardo Rocha

Ugh… If they ported Golden it would be more work for them and the PS Vita sales would drop. You said they could simply put Golden free on PS Vita and give it on PS3 but that wouldn’t solve anything, why would people pay 200$ for a free game when they can get it on a PS3 for $20? Plus, they would be losing sales from people that already own a PS Vita, being able to download Golden for free.

So nope, I think this was a smart move. Some people liked the old voices more and well, if they didn’t got a chance to play the original and don’t have a PS Vita they can easily download this one.

      • MrJechgo

I don’t call “getting the clearly outdated version” a smart move… just like I wouldn’t call “making P4 Golden Vita-exclusive instead of getting an equal 3DS version” a smart move either.

        • http://danierc-polloconpapas.tumblr.com/ Eduardo Rocha

Getting a “clearly outdated version” like you say is a smart move because there’s no loss there, there’s no really work put on it since it’s only emulated so they will only get money. Because, like I said, there’s people that haven’t played the original and don’t have a PS Vita.

About the 3DS version, I guess they just didn’t thought of that. But I wouldn’t call it a non-smart move, PS Vita is getting it sales too.

        • Chris

You know…nothing about business. You want to:
          > Kill future Vite sales
          > Intentionally cause Atlus to lose profit off Golden by making it free
          > Ignore the costs and processes making an oringally Playstation game into a 3Ds game.
          > Kill the Vita more by making it a 3ds game too
          > Fail to understand that P4 and P4G are different games. It’s not an add on like Battle was to Sonic Adventure. Test questions, Personas, Social Links…

          Ugh. Ignorant.

          • MrJechgo

I’m so sorry, but what’s so good about the Vita again? It’s an overpriced PSP… that can’t play your physical PSP games.

Want to “save” the Vita? Ask Sony to cancel it altogether… it’ll save it from total humiliation.

It’s getting a truckload of 3rd-party exclusive games that would be better off on the 3DS anyway.

          • MrSirFeatherFang

This conversation is done, please move on.

        • Mr_SP

You clearly don’t understand something: a company can put whatever game on whatever console it wants. If Atlus wants Persona to be a primarily Playstation brand, they can do that, the Etrian Odyssey-esque Persona Q, aside. And considering Persona 4: Dancing All Night, I kinda think they want to support the Vita. P4Golden has sold 600,000 units. Whether or not a 3DS version would also make money isn’t important – they’ve clearly made enough money to justify their position.

Not that I believe that a 3DS version would *definitely* be good. SMT IV and Devil Summoner can’t boast the same numbers that P4G have – P4G sold better in every region. (Though I suspect that SMTIV could, if ever bothered to release a European version. At this point, a Vita rerelease seems more likely.) On top of that, the Vita has a fair bit more power, and a lot more graphical fidelity, than the 3DS. Porting P4G could be like porting a PS3 game to the Wii. The lack of parity could be expensive to remake or modify all of their assets, while porting an updated PS2 game to the Vita was likely more cost-effective.

      Vita TV says hi

      • http://linkapics.tumblr.com/ Linka

.. if only they could bring it to America…

        • http://rinshibooty.tumblr.com/ rinshibooty

Apparently physical North American Vita games can play on a foreign Vita TV now. Vita TV’s not set up for the American PSN yet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQ5vWxaW58U&feature=youtu.be&t=2m17s

          • http://linkapics.tumblr.com/ Linka

Oh, really? That’s good at least, but I’d still like to see it officially brought over, so it can be used with the NA PSN. … along with the 64GB cards in NA stores. At least Amazon stocks them.

          • Wappuli

            and @Linka13:disqus
It has been possible to play US/EU games with Vita TV for quite some time, pretty much from the beginning I think.
But be warned, even if the Japanese version is supported, it doesn’t mean that localized version will be too.

  • Saeed Al-Thumali

Even thought I’ve played Golden for hours on end. I plan on buying this gem.

  • NorthernPatches

As someone without a Vita and never having played this game I’m excited to finally get the chance to play this game on my PS3.

    • Orohu

Trust me, you’re in for a real treat!

      • Ric Vazquez

        Agreed

    • Ric Vazquez

You are about to play one of the best games ever

  • Afternoon Intergalactic

    Time to buy. Again.

  • DesmaX

Hope they’ll release some P4 Avatars too. They did say before that they were working on it

  • http://linkapics.tumblr.com/ Linka

Whoa. When did the comments get a featured comment ability? That’s some tripped out stuff.

I own some great copies of Persona 4, but I might end up picking this up eventually for the sake of it. I like having digital back-ups, essentially.

    • M’iau M’iaut

No one questions making a small purchase to keep a Grandia or other PS1 game in their jewelcase. Same with all the Wii shop back catalog stuff. Just because the PS2 is ‘newer’ doesn’t make the desire to protect the physical copy diminish,

The featured comment was added to mod controls as part of one of the recent updates. I’ve tried to find particularly fun or special posts to notice, but the inability for folks to reply directly to the featured comment limits that somewhat if the original post ends up buried. So right now we use it as a sticky note reminder from time to time.

  • sharpshot909

    But…. I like Teddie’s new voice

    • AuraGuyChris

It sounds a bit too nasal at times to me.

      • Somebodyissilent

        It’s a giant talking bear thing…

    • Spirit Macardi

Me too. Sam Riegel is such a ham x3

  • harmonyworld

    Teddies voice was new?
I played P4 golden and his voice didn’t seem different to me~~
Chie was the only different one~

    • http://rinshibooty.tumblr.com/ rinshibooty

P4 Teddie was voiced by Dave Wittenberg. P4G Teddie was voiced by Sam Riegel (Reigel?).

      • harmonyworld

for real? He sounded no different and I’m pretty good with voice actors~
        Huh, how weird~~

        • Enma_Kozato

Yeah. While there are times where Riegel’s voice slightly differs from Wittenberg’s, he does an overall great job at replacing the original English Teddie.

  • Logan Moll

Given that Golden made so many improvements–not to mention the extra content, which is amazing–this just seems completely irrelevant. Honestly, anyone that wants to play the game again (or for the first time) should play it on their Vita, or wait until they have one to play it. Why spend the 60-100+ on this version of the game that is missing a bunch of story? I get that not everyone has a Vita, but they will continue to drop in price, the library will grow, and it’s worth waiting to play the ‘true’ version of the game.

    • dj_jm09

The ORIGINAL version of the game is not missing ANY story lol. They only thing that Golden has is a bonus dungeon, extra fanservice cutscenes that do nothing for the story, and Mary who is simply a character that they thought of AFTER the story had already been completed. Golden also has some extra things to simply make playing the game much easier such as the SOS feature and the ability cards. Seriously people should play whatever version of the game that they can access. Those bonuses I mentioned have nothing to do with the main story of the game. No one version is better than the other and Golden is not the “true” version of the game.

      • otakumike

maybe not better but more Persona 4 is always a plus.

      • Logan Moll

I honestly can’t agree at all. Just because the story additions were not originally there does not make them any less important–and they’re certainly canon. In fact, given that, the original is incomplete. If viewed in a bubble where Arena and Golden don’t exist, the original is perfect and complete. That’s not how things actually are, though.

The new character expands the story, there are additional social links to expand the story, there is the true ending which expands upon and further explains the story. All of that is highly valuable. The epilogue is also an extremely nice touch. No, it’s not really important, but it’s a wonderful way to end the game. It even makes a small reference to P4:A, which is quite fun.

As for the SOS system. It’s beyond easy to not use it, and it’s really only useful in the earlier stages of the game, anyway. I come back to my initial statement that, given all of the additional story present in Golden, it is not worthwhile to play the original game.

        • dj_jm09

Its not about agreeing with it. The original game has the canon story. The events that happen in Golden have not been stated as canon either. There is no way that you can prove that the events with Marie are cannon either. They literally just added in one character who does not change the overall story at all. The fact that she has a “bonus” dungeon means that her as a character was not even important to the main story. Also I know that the anime is the anime and the game is the game but if Marie is canon then why did she not appear in the anime? Other scenes from Golden appeared in the anime but Marie was completely absent.

I’m sorry, but if your argument is really turning into Arena and Golden not being canon, then I have absolutely no interest in continuing this pointless, pointless conversation. Troll someone who cares.

          • dj_jm09

Im not trolling you at all. I am just stating that you CANNOT say that the original version of the game is missing story just because the Golden version added one new character and a bonus dungeon. Why do you even think that I am trolling you?

          • M’iau M’iaut

@Logan Moll Let’s end things here for the night folks.

considering Persona is going to be in another platform (3DS) this is a move by Sony to attract those new Persona fans to the series… on its console… crazy theory of mine considering the Vita and PS4 are on the market and the PS3 is in its last moments imo

    • darke

If it’s anything like the PS2, the PS3 will be “on the market” for quite a long while longer. (To a certain extent, “unfortunately”.)

People tend to go on and on about how Golden is superior, but personally, I don’t find what it offers to be all that significantly better compared to the base game.

Sure, in terms of how much stuff there is, Golden has more than the original. But much of the bonus content consists of fanservice material; if you don’t particularly care about that (or if you’re like me and thought that there was too much of that in the original as it is), then missing out on it isn’t much of a loss. It doesn’t help that one of the extra endings, the bad one, is stupid and makes no sense, relying on the MC being a complete moron in order to work at all. Really, the only things I would say that someone is missing out on if they don’t go with the Golden version is some of the convenience features, the bonus dungeon and the extra good ending.

The biggest problem I have with Golden is that they significantly nerfed the Shadow Yukiko and Shadow Kanji fights, two of my favourite boss fights in the game. Granted, I suppose it wasn’t appropriate that some of the hardest bosses showed up that early in the game, but they could have at least made some of the later bosses harder to compensate for that. Heck, the original P4 wasn’t even all that hard compared to the likes of Strange Journey or Digital Devil Saga, so a nerf wasn’t really necessary.

I remember when I was making the choice of whether I wanted to buy the original Persona 4 or wait until the Vita had enough games I wanted (which still hasn’t happened yet) to justify buying it and buy Golden then, since I generally prefer to play on handhelds. I ultimately decided to go with the original, both because I had a PS2, because I couldn’t justify buying a Vita for a single game and because I could always buy Golden later for a cheap price if I ever do get a Vita. In retrospect, I made the right choice.

    But…I like Erin Fitzgerald…

    • FitzpatrickPhillips

Tons of people who actually appreciate voice acting do.

    • Akemi Homura

She’s fantastic, but I still think her performance as Chie can be a bit.. grating at times.

  • Herok♞

I have few things to say

1st. Of course its the PS2 version thats how Playstation 2 Classics work regardless if the Vita version has more content or not. I really don’t get why people are treating it like its some kind of new thing.

2nd Its a good thing this is coming out, if you have PS3 and don’t have a Vita I would say this is the best way to play the game. Heck even after Golden came out I was still recommending getting a PS2 and the original if you want to play the game. Since that was cheaper than getting a Vita just to play one game which is kind of a waste. And before someone says Vita sales need to go up as a consumer that isn’t my problem, especially since I would never recommend spending more than you need just to support a product you weren’t interested in, if someone wanted a Vita anyway I would say go for it but if they just want the game its smarter to go with cheaper after all the game is basically the same.

3rd All the voice actors have good and bad to there performances and in the end it comes down to preference, after all if you spend a long time getting used to any voice you would have bias toward no matter how good or bad it was. Its just the thing you are used to and people don’t like change.

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Sam Riegal is fine and all, but nobody can beat Dave Wittenberg’s performance

  • FlameEmperor

    Woot (/o.o)/

  • MSJ

They’re not gonna attempt to kill vita sales (or lack of) by porting Golden to ps3, that would just be dumb on their part. And I actually like new Chie voice (Fitzgerald)

    • Mr_SP

While I would think they wouldn’t, they did port the Vita Assassin’s Creed and Batman games to the PS3. However, I don’t think P4G is quite so popular in the west as to profit from the idea.

  • Abysswalker90

After playing Golden, I have to say, in my opinion, vanilla P4 is the definitive edition.
Golden is great and all, but it’s ridiculously and laughably easy. You’d find yourself way, WAAY overleveled later in the game without even trying to grind(especially if you’re doing quests and not running away from battles). It kind of kills the mood of the shadow world and the bosses for me, when they go down in just 2-3 minutes(while in the original they are actually a threat).
I also think that all the new content is extremely overwhelming, especially for a new player, it’s almost as if Golden was created for fans who already beat the game.
Without spoiling anything, it also does something at the end that completely eliminates the elusiveness of the true ending.

Sooo, yeah, somehow I felt that original P4 was a more complete experience, and for anyone who haven’t played any version, don’t hesitate to get this one, you’re not missing anything major.

    • Earthjolly

Uhh, Just because you prefer the vanilla version doesn’t make it the definitve edition. Golden has more content, more gameplay time and is more bang for buck so its the definitve edition thats a fact. Whethere you prefer the original or golden more thats a different story

As for you content overwhelming new players that’s just silly talk there.

When I played persons 4 golden for the first time (Being my first persona ever) the new content didn’t “Overwhelm” me. I would say to people to better off wait for the VitaTV and just get the better version of the game and still be able to play on a big screen

      • Abysswalker90

It just feels like the original is the better experience. I didn’t state this as absolute face, I claimed it to be my opinion, as someone who played both games.
All the extra content kind of takes away from the focus of the game, and is mostly treated as non-canon anyway.

All I’m saying is that if someone is pondering whether they should play this version or not, I say go for it. P4G doesn’t add anything that’s really substantial.

  • EQeE

I hope that we get Digital Devil Saga 1, 2, Devil Summoner 2 Raidou vs King Abbadon and Nocturne on PSN someday. I don’t own a PS2 and digital re-releases give me a chance to play them.

  • 永次

Kappei Yamaguchi voiced Kuma in NA version of Persona 4? O.o

  • Hines Green III

Welp back to old granny Chie again huh?

  • Refresh220

Already got the Original and Golden. But good for people who still want to get this.

  • Ric Vazquez

Those who didn’t play it on PS2 or don’t have a PS VITA are about to get one of the holy grails of JRPG on PSN.
