Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn grew to over two million registered users, Square Enix announced. The rebooted version of Final Fantasy XIV was released for PC and PlayStation 3 on August 27. The game just came out for PlayStation 4 this week.

The latest patch, version 2.2, adds Leviathan, Lord of the Whorl, and Glamours to decorate your gear. Square Enix plans on updating Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn with more content in the future.

I’m guessing that’s either the number of people that have bought the game or the number of people who have registered an account (with or without actually purchasing the game)

    • Kaitsu

Either way, the amount of people that do play the game is still pretty high. It’s pretty much how they’re cranking out updates a lot.

they’re cranking out updates because more people are hitting endgame and leaving. they’re trying to find more ways of keeping people.

        • Ninezero

          like any other mmo.

Still the game is fun though, every night i’m always waiting on queue to enter my realm, and I never have problems finding people to play, I recently finished SoO HM in WoW and this is a nice change of pace :P

definitely a good game. i enjoyed the journey through the story and spent 8 weeks in endgame. but i felt no progression during those 8 weeks grinding… so i moved on to other games.

          • Loli Summoner

Wow. After 8 weeks of endgame, you felt not progression? The RNG gods must of not been kind to you.

The Atma was not with her.

          • ElAbuelo69

What? There’s a lot to do! Other jobs, or even disciples of the hand and land.

Beast tribe quests, glamouring, roulettes, the new ATMAs, coil (did you even beat it? I bet not!), CT, minion collecting, housing!!!

Wait, are you suggesting that people in marketing opted for the most favorable sounding version of the facts? Shocking!

You can’t register without an activation key.

its just such a great game. First final fantasy to make me feel this way in years and years. Its funny that when 11 came out my reaction was “this is not final fantasy, its an mmo using its name” but now, the main series games are the pretenders.

    • Superior Spider-Man

I thought the same thing. However only 13 is the pretender (though I actually like 13 and 13-2). XIV actually feels like a FF (story/atmosphere-wise). XI felt like an MMO with FF references.

  • Shady Shariest

GZ! Hopefully the game gets a good chunk of those as core audience :3

  • Loli Summoner

Guess PS4 helped a lot. PS4 has like no interesting games atm (To me ofc)

    • Suzaku

Somewhere between 100,000~200,000 additional users, I reckon, similar to ESO’s PC sales figures.

Prior to the PS4 launch they’ve had a banner with “Over 1.8 Million Olayers!” on the official website.

  • Byron Kerrison II

I need to start playing this again.

Just need to find people to play with.

  • Wow. Nice job Square =)

  • Janrabbit

Are the server’s cross platform in anyway? seriously considering picking this up for PS3 as I currently don’t have a working PC and I am not planning on picking up a PS4 any time soon.

    • Senka

Completely cross platform, totally seamless. Some minor changes to UI elements and graphics are needed for the PS3 version, but it’s nothing that stops you from playing the same game as PS4 and PC players.

The PS3 is weaker than a normal PC for this or a PS4, so you should expect some bad load times for some dungeons, but it’s playable.

      • Janrabbit

Cool beans, gunna get onnit tomorrow then!

        • MakoSoldier7

im a ps3 player, and it runs just fine. Been playing with a usb keyboard and mouse, and it has been perfect

          • Senka

Oh. Weird, I guess a lot of the complaints I’ve heard are just exagerrations. People on the Internet do that all the time anyway.

Personally I play with a PS2 controller on PC. That may sound weird, but at this point I actually feel much more capable with a controller than keyboard and mouse. They did a really great job adapting an MMORPG to controller-based gameplay. Of course, the game’s overall slower pace helps with that too.

  • fairysun

One thing that I like from FFXIV is: there is a main scenario quest that you can unlock by level and you get cool cutscene or achievement for completing some of them. Some MMORPG that I play, their main story is so obscure. So, after going to different places, you kind of forget what you are doing in the game.

  • Lelouch Vi Britannia

Well then i’m one of those 2 million registered users.
I love how the updates are expansions to the game for no charge. Thank you Square for improving, and as for Bravely Default being so good. I think its time to really finish up development on FFXV.
