Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends Problems Prompt Response From Tecmo Koei

By Ishaan . April 16, 2014 . 4:01pm

Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends appears to be having problems on the PlayStation 4 and Vita, with each version suffering from different issues. The PS4 version of the game suffers from network connection problems, while the Vita version suffers from framerate issues.

In response, Tecmo Koei have asked players to provide them with feedback over Facebook, so that they can pinpoint the problem areas. Fans have already begun doing so, and you can make your own contribution on this page, if you’re playing the game.

The Japanese version of Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends was updated with multiple patches, and some of these fixes are already included in the American and European versions of the game, which is why Tecmo Koei say they need player feedback to help pinpoint the issue in each version.

“[Tecmo Koei Japan] had tested the game but couldn’t find the areas to fix, which is why we’re asking and seeking for your help,” a Tecmo Koei representative said to one Facebook user.

Another user suggested that perhaps the version 1.03 patch from Japan could fix the problems in the western versions of the game, but Tecmo Koei say that this isn’t the case either. “1.03 JP version patch is nothing to do with the Vita issues you had mentioned and the game versions are actually different for NA/EU to the JP version,” they wrote.

If you’ve been having trouble with the game, you can submit your feedback here.

Honestly, good for Tecmo Koei for actually taking notice and responding to their fans. I really do hope they sort out the Framerate issue for the Vita version as it does interest me, so if they could fix it, I’d be more interested in buying a copy.

“good for Tecmo Koei for actually taking notice and responding to their fans”
Wouldn’t it just make more sense to release a game that functions properly at launch? Sounds like they’re having a lot of trouble developing for PS, iirc Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 on Vita had frame rate issues too.

      • SerendipityX

I don’t think that’s the case as Dynasty Warriors Next and PW2 Vita games were fine.

        • leingod

NEXT looks infinitely better than 8XL, and that baffles me. Guess it’s because NEXT was developed exclusively with the Vita in mind.

      • Kayseur

Aaaand they never fixed NGS2. A real shame. But yes, as SerendipityX said, some other games of theirs run just fine.
Musou-wise, Musou Orochi 3 Ultimate has no problem whatsoever neither (and I have lots of fun on it). Which is why those framerate issues on DW8XL are pretty weird.

(Plus well, they have DOA+, NGS as well as Toukiden that run smoothly.)

      • Death Metal

The most notably issue I can recall with them was the Ninja Gaiden 3: RE freezing one at the bow & arrows section on the truck. That was horrible and never really fixed AFAIK.

I’ve heard about the framerate issues on the Vita version. Hopefully they can patch that stuff, because that’s why I’ve been holding off.

    • vault2049

Same here. I was tempted to get the game on release date, then I read about the issues it had since the Japanese release. If they manage to fix the issues that the game has, Tecmo Koei will have, at least, another copy sold here.

    • leingod

Wish I have heard of them before. I blindly got 8XL on launch date thinking it’d look as good as NEXT did… but BOY I was wrong… it looks worse in every single aspect. Content-wise it obviously blows NEXT out of the water, though.

It’s not just connection issues with the PS4 version. It suffers from screen blur during gameplay, no audio while streaming and sharing gameplay. It’s good that they’re taking notice, but I get the feeling it’ll be some time before they release a patch for it.

    • Those issues have been there since the game came out months ago in China. Was still there at Japan release and currently still there in the English release. I don’t understand how they could have gone this long without figuring out the issue. You’d think something like NO SOUND during video recording would be something they’d catch during testing.

      • Thatguy

No sound during streaming is a license problem, i hear. VA copyrights etc

    • I hear the no audio issue is because of a copyright claim in Japan

    • Alexander Marquis Starkey

The blur isn’t an issue, though Koei has an upcoming patch that allows you to turn it off.

  • SerendipityX

I don’t really know much about this stuff but in the vita version there was some really bad screen tearing in-game, one time my entire screen went black for like a minute.

  • harmonyworld

That’s the cool thing about gaming these days, if there are problems, they can patch it and you don’t have to get the game replaced or lose money or anything~

  • I don’t use Facebook

    • SaiyanJedi_Trunks

That’s cool. However, I love to use it when sharing PS4 shares.

      • Well it’s a closed network, even if you set something to public someone needs an account to see it

Sony needs to make their own social media PS4 site

        • SaiyanJedi_Trunks

I agree, that would be fun for the gamers for uploading and discussion. In the meantime, at least with this update coming soon we can save shares to USB to upload elsewhere.

  • sakusakusakura_nyo

I got the Vita version and I’m not having any problems.

    • leingod

Framerate can get to the single-digits on certain parts. Specially on the Chibi battle, or when triggering “rage” mode, Musou, etc.

  • icup ✔️

i have a problem with copy, the breasts didn’t jiggle enough during some scenes.

reported the issue, hopefully it’ll be fixed.

    • fairysun

Posting that comment with make-up Gintoki avatar, made your comment twice funnier :D

  • YES I want to get this on Vita so glad to see they will fix framerate.

  • Fox

The two big issues with the game are framerate (on Vita) and laughably incompetent depth-of-field (on PS4).

The PS4 problem has (obviously) been fixed in a patch in Japan.
The Vita problem has (reportedly) been fixed in a patch in Japan.

That TK doesn’t seem to realize this speaks volumes of their ineptitude.

  • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

Now, if they’d only fix Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2+~.

  • Yan Zhao

Glad I’m on good ol’ PS3.

    • With less content =P

      • Wappuli

The only thing missing is the DW8’s original story mode, which can even be unlocked if you have the original game. And I have strong feeling that most who bought Extreme Legends for PS3 also had the original game too.
In a way, having the PS3-versions of the original DW8 and Extreme Legends gives you more “content”, as the Complete Edition for PS4 only has trophies for the Extreme Legends-part of the game.
*Content in quotes just in case, since not everyone acknowledges trophies as game content.

      • Yan Zhao

Except the content is the same.

  • I haven’t had any issues with my PS4 copy

  • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

Why’s there a Ferris wheel in the Han Dynasty?

    • leingod

I already mentioned this above, but It’s a selectable “theme” for the city you build in Ambition Mode.

  • Kai2591

Isn’t Dyanasty Warriors set in ancient China?
Why does the picture look…modern? lol

    • leingod

It’s a selectable “theme” for the city you build in Ambition Mode.

      • Kai2591

ohh..so you build cities in the game….

man, I haven’t played this series for so long since ps2 era and I have no idea about the new features lol

        • leingod

Yeah, well… it’s not Sim City for sure… but you recruit people and the place grows and stuff.

          • Kai2591

            I see…Thanks for the info :)

  • ThatDamnCanadian

I’m holding off until I hear news of a fix for the Vita version
