Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends PC Version Announced For The West

By Ishaan . April 17, 2014 . 6:05am

The PC version of Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends is coming to the West, Tecmo Koei have announced. The game will be available on PC this May in both the U.S. and Europe.

As reported in the past, the PC version of Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends will require Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8 to play. You’ll be able to adjust settings such as distances, character model quality, texture quality and more.

In the screenshot above, you see an adjustable option called “Graphic Detail”. This actually refers to LOD or “level of detail,” which determines how complex an object looks, depending on how close to it you are. Finally, the last three options, in case you can’t make them out, are “Dynamic Shadows,” “Shaders” and “Post Effects”.

The two screenshots above this paragraph are from the Japanese version of the game, and illustrate the differences between low and high settings. You’ll notice that the first screenshot has fewer enemies on the screen, fewer details on each individual enemy, and a less detailed ground texture, among other changes.

The PC version will also contain free DLC from Dynasty Warriors 8 and Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends.

      Imagine that.

    • CirnoLakes

Now that would make me really happy!

  • Stephen Mc Devitt

This is great for PC gamers. I would love to see WTF video of this from Totalbiscuit and a Squirty Play from Jim Sterling, a hardcore DW fan.

    • Franggio Hogland

      Chunky play!!!

      • Stephen Mc Devitt

        Hello, you overripe bananas.

    • John Hayabusa

Good to see PC gamers getting more love lately. Now if we can have Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive, and Atelier in our PCs….

      • Kai2591

Atelier on PC….maybe even Surge Concerto games on PC…now THAT would be DOPE.

      • Stephen Mc Devitt

Well some of more aware of potential audiences than most others.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/xxHiryuuxx Kaleido-Ruby

Sterling would probably be orgasming all over it.

And I say that in a good way – that’s exactly what he does around DW titles.

  • NightzeroAX

Koei showing some love. Now give us Sengoku Musou 4.

  • fairysun

This is awesome, especially after the abomination that PC gamers outside Japan got last time.

  • Kaien

I hope Atelier, NG and DOA will come too.

  • SaiyanJedi_Trunks

This is great news. I still have to pick this up for PS4.

  • Looprider

Awesome news! Is this just the Xtreme Legends add-on, or the complete edition like the one just released on the PS4?

    • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

      It’s the complete edition.

  • zzzSleeping

I always wanted to try Dynasty warriors so this is great!

  • Jungo

    Waiting paid off!

  • Ethan_Twain

Man, I keep trying to be a supporter of the PC scene for Japanese publishers and franchises but… are they TRYING to fill Steam with only the games I don’t want to play?

Look, Universe, I don’t ask for much. I gave up on getting Japanese games that are good at everything years and years ago. But you’re not giving me ANYTHING here in the PC space.

I want games that have really good mechanics that are fun to play, but have no story or nonsense story that I can ignore. You know, something like Etrian Odyssey or Kingdom Hearts or Mario.

Or if I can’t get that, I want games with really good narrative and atmosphere and mechanics that just kind of don’t get in the way of the good stuff. I’m thinking of something along the lines of Metroid Prime, Silent Hill Shattered Memories, or Fragile.

I don’t even need the complete package. A game that’s good at one or the other is all I desire. But right now all I’m seeing is Dark Souls. And Dark Souls is GREAT (it fits into the “great atmosphere” category) but I beat Dark Souls! Now what?

    • Kai2591

      I feels ya man.

    • Franggio Hogland

      Have you checked out Playism?

    • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

I highly recommend Strider. I know it’s an East-West collaboration, so it isn’t entirely Japanese, but if you enjoyed Strider 2 on PSOne, you’ll love the new game. It has some great music that’s reminiscent of Metroid Prime in places, too.

Just be prepared for a good lashing. It isn’t an easy game. It’s actually one of those that starts out really hard and gets easier along the way as you gain more health and abilities.

      • Ethan_Twain

I’ve actually never played a Strider game before – my video game history doesn’t go back that far.

I do love me my Metroidvanias though. I’ll keep it in mind once my schedule of games clears up. I actually have a new game I just started the other night! Probably a bad time to get online complaining about a lack of games :P

        • zzzSleeping

You should look into indie/doujin metroidvania games there are some really good ones out there.

    • DesmaX

I feel you man. Trails in the Sky is the only japanese game on Steam that I’m interested (And that game isn’t even released yet; Game is taking forever).

Oh yeah, I guess the movement should start somewhere

      • Ethan_Twain

I REALLY hope Trails in the Sky lives up to the hype. I agree, that’s the big distinctly Japanese game coming to Steam that might actually be great.

The thing is, certain fans of Japanese games (and JRPGs in particular) can be SUPER defensive of their games and reject any and all criticisms. So even though word on the street is that Legend of Heroes is pretty good, I can’t be sure if it’s ACTUALLY good or if it’s just favored by the JRPG niche.

        I’m optimistic though!

        • DesmaX

Oh, I understand what you’re saying. I personally think that over-defending a game isn’t the best way to draw people to them; It’s best to just acknowledge it’s flaws.

I personally beat the game 2 times on my PSP, and I have no problem starting a new run for the 3rd time… There’s just something about this game. When it comes to JRPG’s, it might be my favorite one; Even though it takes too long to something to happen in the story sometimes.

    • Yan Zhao

You want Japanese games? Get PS3. You like western games? Play PC or Xbox. A simple separation.

      • CirnoLakes

I don’t think it’s really that simple of a separation.

I don’t think this West = PC, East = console dichotomy works.
And I think that the PC has a much larger variety of Japanese video games than the PlayStation 3 does.

The PlayStation 3 does have more new games from major publishers. But even in terms of recent Japanese games, I think that the PC has more, because of the doujin industry.

    • Scrooge_McDuck

Hmm, Half-Minute Hero, Devil May Cry, Sonic, as well as all those fighting and SHMUP games for the first category. And Deadly Premonition for the second?

      • Ethan_Twain

You know, I’ve never been into fighting games at all (I accidentally bought one when I was a kid and looked at the manual and was all “I need to zigzag the stick plus press two buttons to use just a particular MOVE? And it’s different on EVERY CHARACTER?”) but I’m seriously considering giving Street Fighter IV a try when the new version comes out for PC. Now that I kind of have an idea what I’m getting into I think I might love that game.

Seriously though: Tatsunoko vs. Capcom was possibly the worst money I spent as a kid.

  • rurifan

This is great and all, but how about announcing when the Japanese voice pack for the PS4 DW8XL “complete edition” will be released. :(

  • Roll Caskett

So the graphic would be last gen……WHY YOU NO USE CURRENT GEN GRAPHICS ?

  • Göran Isacson

Oh man, those setting differences. The low settings one feels like I’m back in freaking PSX land. DW4 looked prettier than that…

  • Kai2591

My superior desktop PC is happy to be getting more and more Japanese games.

“Set all settings to ULTRA HIGH”

    “HASSHIN!”

  • Eilanzer

    steam version?!

    • http://steamcommunity.com/id/farcraiy Jeffinsen Kurnia

      ya in steam.

  • Thelastgunstar

Yes! Yes! My God, YES! I am SO happy I didn’t jump on the Vita version. If this comes to Steam, it will be a day one purchase. if not…>_>…

    ..

    Day one purchase!

    • Rintarou

Same here! I was just thinking about the vita version too after report of the fps fix incoming, but this is much better. :D

    • Scrooge_McDuck

Fear not, for that announcement has a Steam logo on it.

      • Thelastgunstar

*checks* Oh man, that’s awesome! Now I wonder…will this version be based on the PS4 version or PS3. I’m assuming PS4 since the PS3 version was split and not a Complete Edition…but I’m not sure.

  • Nicholas Perry

Visuals look like based on PS3 version? ._.

  • DarthSithZero

I just hope it looks as good as the PS4 or Better.

  • Yan Zhao

Modders, get to work on those swimsuit mods~!

  • CozyAndWarm

Nice! This is a good trend. Keep up the PC support Tecmo.

  • Loli Summoner

Sweet. Can’t wait to see what mods people come up with.

    • Vash bane

lol I was just about to say that

  • EmptyWarrior

And right after I just bought the Vita version, too. Oh well.

  • Strid

Will wait the extra week for Empires.

  • Junoh315

Now just release Romance of the Three Kingdoms 11 on Steam so I can buy a good digital copy.

    • Testsubject909

ROTK11 was fun. But I still vastly prefer ROTK10.

There’s just something more appealing about the greater freedom over your own standing and class. It adds to the personal story of your character if you’re going with a self-made one.

Though if you’re more into the kingdom management side of things. Yeah. ROTK11 will probably work better for you overall.

      • Junoh315

I liked the management part of it. Also, I see no reason why they can’t release their old games to Steam as long as they work on modern systems.

  • CirnoLakes

Heheheh, I knew this would happen.

This is so great. Like many developers when reaching the PC, this isn’t my favourite game on franchise from them. But it’s still really exciting and I’m really excited to buy it!

This is so nice, so many of my favourite developers are coming to Steam!

  • Red Harlow

oh great! now when are they gonna release it for xbox owners who bought DW8?
