Wii U Shmup Gaiabreaker Is Soaring To The West

By Spencer . April 24, 2014 . 2:35am

gaiabreaker05Wii U is getting a little shooting love, but not from Triangle Service. Ubiquitous Entertainment made Gaiabreaker, a vertical shmup for Nintendo’s console.

Gaiabreaker is probably more notable for being one of the few games on Wii U that utilizes the enchant.js framework, a HTML5/JavaScript Engine.

The game was released in Japan last December and it looks like it’s heading West since Gaiabreaker was rated by Australia’s Classification Board.

Niiiiice. Shmups of any kind on Wii U will be getting a sale from me. C’mon Cave, give the Wii U some love too…

Cave doesn’t have anything close to the resources needed to start developing for WiiU. They’re hanging on by a thread, the best hope is probably for more iOS releases or maybe Xbox One.

Re: Xbox One, Microsoft did list Cave as a Japanese Xbox One developer. That likely just means they got a dev kit though, and in no way indicates they actually have any current plans to release a game.

While I’d have kinda preferred the WiiU to become the next 360 for STG atleast the Xbone is region free.

No plans to buy the console until they hit the £200 range but I can buy one or two games and stick em on my shelf until I do.

Anyway it’s nice to see STG coming to the WiiU

It’s good news that the game is being released outside of Japan, unfortunately the game is… well, is not very good.

To any potential player, you can use the cross or the analogue stick and buttons to play it, like, let’s say, Raiden or R-type, but, actually, the only good way of playing it is using the touch screen.

Let me just edit this by cutting out some text

      You’re so clever.

By west I thought you meant Europe or NA, but whatever. Going south would be literally accurate, but figuratively wrong I guess. English. Go figure.
