Want To Feel Like A Tales Voice Actor? Then Casting Voice Is The Game For You

Casting Voice from Bandai Namco Games is an interesting concept that turns the voiceover business into a video game. As a producer, you pick voice actors for different scripts like an anime called Magic Knights Blazer Blade and oddly enough the 1950′s movie Roman Holiday. Dubbing an old romantic comedy sounds pretty wacky.

Bandai Namco also has something for Tales fans, Casting Voice has scenes from Tales of Vesperia, Tales of Symphonia, Tales of Hearts R, Tales of the Abyss, Tales of Destiny, and Tales of Destiny 2 in the game. You can recast Tales with a series of voice actors in the game or plug in a microphone and give your best impression of Yuri Lowell.

Casting Voice comes out on June 19 in Japan.

  • Zoozbuh

Chance of possible localization = 0%
Still, I imagine if you know Japanese, this would be pretty damn fun to play around with.

    • Chon Pak

Well, they can always keep the Japanese voice and put romaji along with English translation. This way, not only can the player understand the language but also learn it through speaking and reading.

Unfortunately, I guess nearly every Japanese companies think no foreigners would like these kind of games (can’t blame them). It’s already rare for anything to not get dubbed these days (no offense), so something from another culture must be converted first all the time.

If there is at least a 0.1% chance of localization, it would be great though.

      • Renaldi Saputra

the problem is western ppl aren’t familiar with simulation game, even this kind of simulation game

      • Audie Bakerson

Or largely redo the game’s inner workings for western release, but I don’t think companies are crazy enough to do that now days (only Nintendo is crazy enough to do that level of thing like with Tomodachi collection’s text to speech stuff). Even if Namco was, they haven’t translated Idolm@ster yet, which should be simpler and less risky.

        • Renaldi Saputra

          less risky? I don’t think so…
          you forgot the songs
the fanbase is pretty small in the west
          but bigger in Asian region

          • Audie Bakerson

Less. Compared to this, Idolm@ster, which has an existing western fanbase, however tiny, is way easier.

          • Renaldi Saputra

as I said, licensing the songs aren’t easy. Hence they ask about $60 for each series

        • Lynx

          -Im@s

          They have though.
          And it was a ripoff.
I should know. Kinda fell for it.

They ported the Shiny Festa games to iOS and translated them. However, they didn’t translate the music and asked about $60 for it.

          • Qunton C.

Why would they localize the music? That sounds terrible. Even NIS isnt stupid enough to localize the songs in their idol game.

          • Renaldi Saputra

maybe they’re just licensing the songs
            that’s why it’s expensive

          • Lynx

No, I mean they didn’t even sub the lyrics. They didn’t even bother putting it in romanji. So here we have a game in English and all of a sudden, japanese.

      Watashi wa…. watashi wa…
      OREGA MAMORU!!
I’ve watched way too much anime….

    KUREAAA

    • dawnbomb

      KUREAAAAA!

    • rekka_zan

      KUREAAAAA!!

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

It would have been funny if the game came with a microphone and you had to become a voice actor of the main protag…..wait that would have been an awesome game

    • rekka_zan

It doesn’t come with the microphone but the trailer said there’s a mode where you can use a USB mic and use your own voice.

  • Nitraion

Lol i wonder this game is tribute for seiyuu?

    • Renaldi Saputra

      apparently, yes

  • Mαdασ「マダオ」

Oi, I’ve been told that my voice is too sexy.

  • Vorsun

I don’t know about voice-acting or anything like that, but I am all about that not-Kamen Rider not-series they’ve got up there.

  • DanielGearSolid

Don’t let them trick you guys!

They’re using us for cost free voice overs!

    • fairysun

If my voice can be in any Namco games(especially Tales of games), feel free to use it. Just don’t forget to put my name on credit list. :D

      • DanielGearSolid

        Truuuuueee

      • God

If they did, they wouldn’t give you any credit.

  • https://twitter.com/Lezard__Valeth Lezard Valeth

Look really interessting! now i need to know if Kana Hanazawa voice is in there too.

    • Satoshi Ookami

Would be awesome but since there’s no Tales of Graces, it’s hard to say that HanaKana will be present… :/
If she was, it would be insta import for me.

      • https://twitter.com/Lezard__Valeth Lezard Valeth

Aww that’s a shame…maybe a future DLC… i would totally insta import too if she was in there. to have a perfect casting list…it miss her.

  • Ecchitori-san

I’m sorry to say but I don’t see a need or a want to play the game..

  • Mind0105A

Looks interesting. I might take it.

  • ZnTxn

    This game is awesome.

Not a “localization please” post, but it would be amazing if Namco decides to localize this and manage to add as an extra feature a few english voice actors like Johnny Yong Bosch… “IT’S MORPHING TIME!”

    • Renaldi Saputra

the problem is whether ppl in the west will accept this kind of game or not. Simulation games weren’t familiar in US except the Sims maybe…

Ppl now rather focus on RPG or action or shooting genre

    • Kaetsu

If it got localized they would have to go all out with the English voice actors like Johnny Yong Bosch, Yuri Lowenthal, Vic Mignogna, Travis Willingham, Laura Bailey, Erin Fitzgerald, e.t.c. I highly doubt that would happen.

  • WhyWai

Now… This is a “think out of the box” type of game..

  • Kornelious

Man, how cool would it be to be a Tales voice actor :D To bad this game has zero chance of a localization :(

  • Spirit Macardi

Is one of those TotA lines in there of Asch shouting “REPLICAAAAAA!”? x3

    • kaotron

tota in a nutshell: Replica compilation…
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9pVmQ1CvkM

      • Spirit Macardi

What I love the most is that Yuri Lowenthal shouts it the same way that he does: “WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM?!” x3

Also, is it just me, or does the Japanese voice at the end sound more like he’s shouting “Leprechaun”?

        • kaotron

yeah, thought the exact same thing.

  • Kotori Itsuka

    This looks kewl
