There’s More To Arcana Heart 3: Love Max Than The Hot Springs Scene

By Spencer . May 1, 2014 . 2:18am

Arc System Works is helping Examu bring Arcana Heart 3: Love Max!!!!! from arcades to consoles. The PlayStation 3 game has been rebalanced and has new moves like the Arcana Eclipse. Players can test their air combo skills in Trial mode, race through fights in Time Attack mode or try to avoid losing life in Survival Score Attack mode.

Arcana Heart 3: Love Max!!!!! has little slice of life stories about the characters too. There’s a fixed chance you can unlock a Memory scenario by simply playing the game. These can be viewed in Gallery Mode, but do not have voice acting. These extra stories come from the mobile phone app, Arcana Heart: Card of Glory, and have been adjusted for PS3 and Vita.

Great Spencer, use a title for the article which will make folks NOT want to buy the game :P.

    • Now that’s funny lol

    • fairysun

      Lol, on the contrary.
I clicked on the article because I want to know what is more hot springs scene. *giggle giggle blush*

    • Kornelious

LOL XD, Oh we’re not that single-minded….mostly….

  • RawrWata

A hot spring scene with lolis?

Chirst, I felt like I was going to be thrown into jail just by playing the game enough as it is.

    • TheHolypopeofgaming

How do you think I feel playing Deathsmiles?

  • Glad we’re getting this, and the whole hot springs thing will be new to me as I’ve only played Arcana Heart 1 & 2 lol

  • VWinds

Why can’t Arcana Heart articles ever talk about the rock solid and highly unique fighting game mechanics?

Why is is always about the ‘moe?

    • M’iau M’iaut

That is what most folks will notice first and from my experience with other threads regarding the IP, not everyone appreciates the slower strategic pace that can often happen in Arcana Heart battles. It still has an audience here though.

You sell with the ‘sizzle’ and then keep folks happy with the ‘steak’.

      • Daverost

There is no slower strategic pace in AH3. AH3 is lightning fast. That’s something that was in the older games.

        • VWinds

Yeah. Homing no longer cost meter starting in AH3. That alone made matches way faster and much more dynamic.

No 2D fighting game has as much aerial high-flying combat at AH3 does.

          • Rashaan Butler

Homing no longer costs meter? Is this something that was changed for the LOVE MAX!!!!! version? ‘Cause I have the DLC version of the original game and I distinctly recall homing no longer having a meter on its own. Instead it was now tied to the Super Meter.

      • Ni ~Algidus~

AH3 is not slow paced. rounds can easily end in 10 seconds with lots of stuff happening on the screen

      • SaiyanJedi_Trunks

Using a moe “sizzle” for a fun fighting game’s “steak” is not a bad strategy.

      • MrTyrant

        >slower strategic pace

Stop reading there. I remember the game being faster than most fighting games only a little slower than Blaz or Guilty but clearly similar sometimes.

        • M’iau M’iaut

My experience with the IP is with the original on the PS2. I bought AH3 digitally and all it has ever done is sit on my hard drive. Perhaps I should take a shot and play.

          • MrTyrant

Never wanted to play the second, many told me it was the worst entry.

          • Chardo

the Second one is extremely good, it actually has the best soundtrack in all the series, and it also added the most interesting characters and Arcanas in my opinion, (the magic cards girl, the nuns, petra, the ninja dog girls, the gigantic robot bunny girl, etc) the arcade version had a quite good reception on japan, perhaps the bad reputation you hear comes from the ps2 version, which had really bad slowdowns that made you drop your timing if you where not prepared. so it could not be played competitively

      • Chardo

AH3 is much faster than say, blazblue, the damage ratios are extremely high, and everything can end in seconds with a well landed counter-hit if you are not prepared, it actually reminds me of GGXX, this is actually one of the reasons it was so popular, higher damage rations means more tension and adrenaline.

I actually hear that love max!! lowered the damage ratios a little, which could end up good and bad, I admit, they where a little TOO high, but we could end up with another KofXIII, which, despite having a following it also alienated a lot of hardcore fans for forcing them to focus more on very-long-hard-to-learn combos instead of the instant zoning-to-rushdown system it was so easy to pick up.

  • leingod

Cool! Although I’ve been sold for a while now. Hot Springs are just icing on the cake.

  • Kornelious

I have to say it’s a neat suprise that we are getting not only the Vita and PS3 version, but both physical as well! I woorry there is not enough Summer for all the games coming out X)

  • TheHolypopeofgaming

No new characters meh and if it’s digital only like the first AH3 was this is a skip or an import when it’s dirt cheap.

    • NeoStrayCat

The English release is up for pre-order, so yeah, its also coming up retail. Don’t worry about it.

      • TheHolypopeofgaming

Awesome, I had to import the other game from the UK.

    • MrJechgo

There’s already 23 characters in the roster, which is quite the number. Also, it’s “simply” an upgrade to the game, not a sequel. If you want more characters, you might want to start praying for Arcana Heart 4… provided they can add MORE elemental arcanas to the mix.

Sounds like they’re starting to run out of those if they had to come up with artificial ones XD

      • TheHolypopeofgaming

Usually an update will include an extra character to justify the upgrade.

        • MrJechgo

That depends on who’s making it and how it is done. Each company is different.

  • SaiyanJedi_Trunks

“There‚Äôs More To Arcana Heart 3: Love Max Than The Hot Springs Scene”

What’s more to life than that? :(

  • MrTyrant

I honestly don’t care for any hot spring or beach scenario in any game. Had a lot of those in anime and most of the times they aren’t good because obviously it serves only for fanservice.

But the new moves and rebalance attract me a lot.

  • Go2hell66

Always liked this game. kinda like marvel without the glitches and terrible balancing

  • Prinny Dood

Fall is like forever away i might be dead tommorow dood! Ack!!

    • mike dickson

as long as nobody throws you dude you should be fine

      • Prinny Dood

I dont no dood etna pretty pissed right now.OH MY GOD DOOD SHE JUST THRU CLARK DOOD! OH THE HUMANITY

        • mike dickson

          may he rest in peace

  • ScarletStar

To the ones going on about having to make some new arcanas “if possible” …how about some on the Seven Deadly sins? Seriously, that’s all we’re missing.
Also, it’s an instant buy when it comes over here…. IF Under Nigt Btrh makes it over here.
