Compile Heart’s label, Galapagos RPG, that makes RPGs for Japanese customers, have been teasing their second title with a strange evolving monster (shown above). This week’s issue of Famitsu reveals that it’s a game called Omega Quintet, for PlayStation 4.

According to the report, the genre of Omega Quintet is “idol x RPG”. The artwork is being done by Fukahire and music production by Lantis and (idea) WILL.

Omega Quintet takes place in a world that is being eroded by a phenomenon called “beep,” which has been degenerating the life of mankind by affecting their minds. The protagonist is a young lady who is some sort of “Verse Maiden” and happens to have the powers to stop the “beep”.

While details on the other characters in the game are scarce, Famitsu names of some characters and their voice actors in Otoha (Riho Iida,) Kyouka (Rui Tanabe,) Kanadeko (Inori Minase,) and Aria (Eii Yamazaki)

Omega Quintet is slated for release on September 18, 2014 for PlayStation 4. The limited edition version of the game will include a special booklet, while pre-orders will come with an original soundtrack CD.

Of all the companies I expected to be first at making a PS4 exculsive JRPG it wasn’t Idea Factory at the top of the list. Cool anyway.

    • Anime10121

They made the first exclusive PS3 JRPG in Agarest Senki…

  • Jerry Hu

    Sorry for the bad quality.

      Let’s see… female, female, female, female, female…

Yup, definitely a Compile Heart title.

      • wererat42

Look at is this way, FFXV will be released one day, and then you can say male, male, male, male, male…

        • chibidw

With the way Square designs their male characters nowadays, I wouldn’t be so sure.

          • DyLaN

Bishounen are still (handsome/pretty) guys though. But if SE decides to include a trap into FFXV….

          • Tarkovsky

You’re kidding right? I take it that you’ve never seen Japanese boy bands or male celebrities. Either way, out of the 9 male characters in XV, 6 have facial hair of some sort.

        • Jerry Hu

          So many males in FFXV.

          • Tarkovsky

Fanservice for the female fans of the series. :)

        • https://www.behance.net/cobaltcomet KOKAYI5

Nomura said some females will join later.

          • Wtv

            Not as playable characters though.

          • https://www.behance.net/cobaltcomet KOKAYI5

I hear they will be, just deeper in the game. It’s already been hinted/implied that Cor Leonis may die and be replaced by Stella.

          • Wtv

Did you read that somewhere? I didn’t find anything like that.

It’s pretty risky to make a all male cast in the 15th game in the series, actually, and I think he mighty be pressured to add some characters that weren’t meant to be in Versus.

I just hope they won’t make fillers characters that will be there just to fill space.

          • Kazuma Kazzie Kaz Kaz

I would like them to announce at least 1 playable girl to please the fans, but I would also like them to keep a couple of characters secret.

I like being surprised, part of the fun from the past Final Fantasy game was not knowing who would join the part, announcing all of the part characters, sort of spoils the fun.

        • Kazuma Kazzie Kaz Kaz

I think they show mostly males, because at the start of the game, you control Noctis and his crew, they will not meet many characters until later in the game on their adventures, that’s when maybe they will join up with females.

    • Tarkovsky

Thanks for the scan! Cute Drakengard 3 avatar you have there btw. :)

      • Jerry Hu

        Thank you. :)

      • DyLaN

        Its the official twitter icon.

    • DesmaX

Well, those designs already turn me off. Not into this “idol” stuff

      • Anime10121

Me either, only thing that has me even a LITTLE bit interested is the fact that its also being called an RPG…

      • MrTyrant

I just interesed in Idolmaster for some reason, don’t even know why but attract me somehow.

    • FTM

      Cool: thanks for the scan!

And I like what I see, as always with Compile Heart— likewise, I have no idea if what I see will actually make for a quality videogame or not :P

    • Kornelious

Huh, I wasn’t really interested at first…..but it actually looks pretty interesting…(Andnow I’m not just a sucker for pretty looking female designs……… :P)

    • Kai2591

oh an all-female game? Hmmm I don’t think this is for me…I like my
games to have at least one guy (as the mc)….but the art is quite nice
      :)

Nonetheless, need more info before I make a real decision. Thanks for sharing the scan! XD

      • MrTyrant

I also hate all female games but I’m wary of Galapagos or Compile heart because I hate their male protag, they don’t do a good job most of the time. I also dislike most of their females so it’s a good “balance”?

        • Kai2591

I see…have you played the Fairy Fencer F by any chance? The Japanese version of course; how about the mc there? Is he any good?

          • MrTyrant

No he is not that bad he is pretty decent I just didn’t like much the heroines, there are only two. Sexy scientist is not one of them =(
The game has some other technical problems like slowdowns and things like that.

          • Kai2591

Thanks that’s good to know :)

    • Wtv

      Without generic male protagonist.

      It can be fun.

  • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus
  • fyi1191

No thanks. I’ll wait for Takaki’s Senran Kagura for PS4.
    Interesting title though.

  • darke

Wonder if it’ll get an extra spike in sales from those half a million console owners as it’ll likely be the first exclusive-PS4 RPG. :?

  • DesmaX

Omega Quintet takes place in a world that is being eroded by
    a phenomenon called “beep,”…

Damn those violent videogames, now kids are destoying the world by saying bad words!!!!111

  • Somerandomperson

    Actually seems interesting.

  • Manny Being Manny

An idol JRPG? Guess this’ll be the game that makes me finally buy a PS4.

  • Ethan_Twain

Oh wow, look at that image! Is Compile Heart finally breaking out of their rut of sub par games that try to mask their failings with scantily clad anime girls? That monster looks weird! Sort of like a kid’s watercolor painting of a monster from a TV show. Just based on that image I’m interested.

    Welp, never mind then.

    • Göran Isacson

Ha ha, oh you silly goose.

      You hoped.

And now you pay the prize.

  • Ladius

Nice to see niche developers trying to build an audience on PS4 early on, Idea Factory also made the first PS3 exclusive jrpg so it isn’t so strange to see them doing the same this time. I’m interested to see what kind of battle system they will come up with for this game, I’m fine with either a modified version of the one they used in the latest Neptunia games and FFF or something new.

  • DyLaN

It seems that a teaser site and PV (don’t expect too much out of it though) will be up tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Also the concept/plot description reminds me of Symphogear. Fukahire art is pretty nice too.

  • Notquitesure?

“Compile Heart’s label, Galapagos RPG, that makes RPG for Japanese customers.” As far I’m aware aren’t all RPG produced in Japan for Japanese customers. If they weren’t catered towards Japanese then Final Fantasy and many other RPG’s would be substantially different. Sorry it just seems stupid that Compiles heart spin-off studio should focus on catering to Japanese gamers when other games are all ready catered towards. I’m sure 90% of people creating games in Japan didn’t go “Lets make a game for western gamers.” Sorry for rant.

    • Wtv

Square Enix already said that they do games with worldwide appeal and games to japanese public differently, actually.

And look at those FFXV character. With exception of Noctis and the Cloud-like, they are all designs that will appeal to west more than Japan.

      • Notquitesure?

I guess I see what you mean, FFXII was pretty European.

  • りんごタルト@エスカのアトリエ

    So, Ar Tonelico?

    • Anime10121

Except probably nowhere near as good :/

(still gonna buy it when IF localizes it tho)

      • gangrelion

I agree with you, it doesn’t look like this gets near the complexity of Ar Tonelico’s plot and world, but I will not deny both series have lots of fan service with cute girls!

    • DyLaN

I think the premise is more like Symphogear though.

    • CirnoTheStrongest

Ar tonelico wasn’t really “idol simulation” and had lots of characters that weren’t exactly “idols”
As a fan of the series, I really think this is an unfair comparison.

      • Anime10121

She/He means in the simplest of ways…
        Both JRPG’s
        Both have music focus
Both will probably have ecchi scenes..

        • CirnoTheStrongest

Generalizations are never a good thing :|

          • Anime10121

That they arent, but unfortunately people do it all the time…

  • Renaldi Saputra

so compile hearts did 1st idol simulation game for ps4 first before im@s..
    lol

    • DyLaN

Idol sim is not RPG though? Its said that *ω*Quintet is a RPG.

      • Renaldi Saputra

it’s a mix between idol simulation x RPG

        • MrTyrant

Being a mix doesn’t make it less “unique”

          • Renaldi Saputra

            who said it’s less unique?

          • MrTyrant

In the way that DyLaN said is an RPG, you said is a mix but that doesn’t change what he said neither. It’s an rpg and that’s it.

          • Renaldi Saputra

yep, an RPG and an idol simulation

          • MrTyrant

But still it’s…ah forget it. We could discuss this all day long lol

          • Renaldi Saputra

            you’re right
let’s just put this into end

    • CirnoTheStrongest

There’s an Idolm@ster game that’s coming for the PS4, and could release before this. It was announced a while back.

      • Renaldi Saputra

but the upcoming is a PS3 game, not PS4

        • Anime10121

They announced 2 at the same time, one for PS3 which they said was coming soon and one for PS4 which they admitted was a bit far off.

          http://www.siliconera.com/2013/09/09/namco-bandai-making-gundam-and-idolmster-games-for-playstation-4/

          • Renaldi Saputra

but I bet it can’t be released on september, even they haven’t announced what’s the title of the game, and what genre it is

          • CirnoTheStrongest

That’s pure speculation on your part that it couldn’t. I never said it “would”, just that it “could” release before this.

          • Renaldi Saputra

didn’t saw it back then, sorry

          • CirnoTheStrongest

No probs. I’ve had my fair share of saying things without having the full picture :)

  • s07195

So each Galapagos RPG is going to have its own weirdly shaped character?

  • gangrelion

Yeah! Yet another “girls-only” game where the heroines save the world simply by being cute. Not really interested…

  • CirnoTheStrongest

Idol RPG ~ Idol RPG ~
I’ve waited for this moment for so…so very long T_T
    Thank you CH!!!!

  • Kornelious

    So……I’m wondering exactly since it’s a PS4 game…..what makes it a PS4 game?……….But more importantly, WILL WE GET THIS!?

    • Anime10121

      I dunno…maybe the fact that its on a PS4 :P

But for real, just because its on a new console doesnt mean it has to be blasting SUPER ULTRA AMAZING tier graphics! Maybe they just wanted to utilize the social features. Or more likely, take advantage of being the first JRPG on the system and capitalizing off of that! It could also be them building their experience with the hardware.

On the last part, I’m sure if no one else (NisA) picks this up, now that IF have a western localizing branch, they’ll localize it themselves :P

  • MrTyrant

If this has simulation parts what do you do exactly? you don’t have a producer character if the main is the girl unless the player interact with them directly.

  • https://www.behance.net/cobaltcomet KOKAYI5

Why so many moe idol games? I hope its a least fun. Or deep.

  • Tyler Beale

This makes me think that the new Neptunia will also be on PS4….If it is, I’ll buy one whenever it’s announced for a western release!

  • KazukiNanbu

an idol rpg….i can’t imagine how will be

  • TerrenceEncore Jones

I’m waiting for the song CD
