Final Fantasy XV Cam Footage Shows More Scenes At Thailand Comic Con

By Sato . May 13, 2014 . 9:31am

Square Enix recently shared some footage of Final Fantasy XV during their Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary show at Thailand Comic Con 2014. While they showed scenes from previous trailers, they seem to have also added a few new bits that weren’t shown in the original footage. (Thanks, Game Jouhou).

While most of the trailer was seen earlier last year during E3 2013, the first bit of alternate footage that was shown at the Thailand Comic Con can be seen  at 20:16, where it shows a slightly different part of Noctis’ wall-hanging and teleport-jumping action, and some more in the following part when he’s on the land fighting soldiers.

After taking on the Iron Giant, in the next scene against the soldiers at 21:10, it shows an alternate bit of footage where Noctis is shown kicking down a couple enemy soldiers. The following scene at 21:26 also shows a different bit of action against the Behemoth, when compared to the earlier trailer.

Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto recently mentioned that the development of Final Fantasy XV is going smoothly. We’ll most likely be seeing or hearing more about the game at E3 next month.

Final Fantasy XV is currently in development for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Never knew I could be so happy with 20 seconds of new footage. Looking so much like a playable Advent Children. E3, please have more stuff to show.

  • Rafael Martines
    • Kenny Loh

      Kaz Hiarai: “Again?”

    • Noor Mahmoud

Well, they did deliver. We did get the unveiling of FFXV at E3.

      • Guest

theres been info but tgs and e3 last had like 13 interviews

    • Samsara09

After eight years hearing that,it starts to get annoying. But yeah, there is no way the PS3 could handle this game.

      • natchu96

If they want to troll us they should slow down development and constantly aim higher whenever a new gen console is made.

    • Stephen Mc Devitt

Isn’t that Nintendo’s line or is it Japan’s way of communicating with western english-speaking folk in general?

      • Cazar

        You’re thinking of “Please understand.”

        • Stephen Mc Devitt

You WILL understand or else I activate the STARFOXDIE in your pink little testicles. Bye bye.

    • fairysun

I am more excited right now than I was with FFXIII LR announcement.

  • TheHolypopeofgaming

Final Fantasy is no longer what it was. That said XV looks like it’ll be a solid non RPG but they need to get back to basics with the Series.

    • xkumo

      >All RPGs have to be turn based.

      • TheHolypopeofgaming

FF XIII’s issue was all of them the game held your hand too much during battles.

        • OathkeeperSoraXIII

Only with Auto-battle, there’s always the option of not using it. It’s not ideal, granted, but there’s the choice to also slow the ATB gauge for those that did want it to feel more turn based if you didn’t want to use auto battle ^^. When XIII was first released I remember lots of people complaining that the boss fights were too hard, because people didn’t understand the battle system. I always felt, aside from the auto battle the game didn’t really hold your hand after the initial tutorial on the paradigm system. It’s also the FF game i’ve had the most deaths on lol. I haven’t played 12 though, heard that had some crazy super bosses on it

          • Samsara09

X,X-2,XII and XIII have really hard bonus bosses…the dark aeons, penance, via purifico, post game hunts and boss, etc.
people need to check their facts. Also,XIII had many bosses that were hard, like odin and the other eidolons, that plant monster in the whitewoods, the battleship in hope’s home,Barthendelus,Cid,Rosch’s ship, etc.

          • OathkeeperSoraXIII

          • Samsara09

also, people need to finish these without cheating or abusing, like using cat nip to finish via infinito. Then they can brag.

          • Cheating? My second play through I maxed out my Gil ( which oddly caps at about 13 million…). I would level up all my weapons buy potions etc.

I had to replenish my gil 3 times before Eden. Granted, These Lcie were on a last meal esque shopping spree the whole game >_< I did not even bend the rules that much! I was fairly conservative with my money! I have to admit that playing the battles and defeating enemies faster did slightly give that "Im playing FF7 Feeling".

Removed: After I uploaded the vids
a picture of the proposed battle systems for 13. I will upload vids laters.

          • Finally Found the Video as well lol

It’s kinda hard to notice with the bad quality but you can see the party functioning fine without the need for paradigms and what nots. Other than that, you can see the difference it makes in battle for combos. I can also mod the ATB to 6 or give it a regen rate, but I think you can see where the potential could have been for the battle.

Sorry if the link was all messy before had to re-upload @ 10:12 AM

          • I don’t care what you say… That plant turtle was a very naughty boss. Anoyingly hard….

          • Samsara09

i abused buffs. That was the point of the battle. Also,I didn’t run from any encounter…but yeah, there is no way not to,anyways, lol…

        • Monterossa

Funny… XIII is the hardest FF since… IV or V.

          • Samsara09

the post game content is fucking hard.people who say the game is easy should try killing an adamantortoise and a long gui WITHOUT SPAMMING DEATH.Also, the hunts, like neo ochu, etc.

final fantasy X and X-2 are others with really hard, with dark aeons-penance and via infinito.Oh,on international, there is no cat nip.Have fun

          • Monterossa

I’m doubt those people will be able to pass Odin in the early chapter if they think they can conquer this game by spamming X button.

      • Stephen Mc Devitt

What about Kingdom Hearts, Ni-No-Kuni and the Tales series? Hell, Final Fantasy IV is technically not turn-based when it introduced the ATB system.

The main series was turn-based between III (Famicom) and X.

        • chroma816

implies he’s being sarcastic. He’s saying that the guy who made the original comment was wrong that all RPGs are turnbased, which they’re not.

    • chroma816

      >implying ARPGs aren’t still RPGs
      >implying FF games have been strictly turn based since 3.
      >implying a big change isn’t what the series needs to get back on track

      • Samsara09

the guy implies too much about things he probably doesn’t even understand.Such boastfulness.

        • chroma816

Too much of a traditionalist, and a stupid one at that.

          • Samsara09

Final fantasy never take things for granted. They always experiment and develop new ideas that end up inspiring the other companies in the genre.

That is why final fantasy has few things people can call the definite characteristic of the series.

          • Stephen Mc Devitt

True but that means experiments that didn’t work should be very ditched like having someone voicing a moogle actually saying kupo in a high-pitched voice over and over and over again.

You’ll never hear anyone like Tyrion or Littlefinger go on like that.

          • Samsara09

yes, this is why final fantasy lacks consistence and they tend to suffer from development hell.It is quite a gamble.

          • Stephen Mc Devitt

We can also point out what people are handling each project. Toriyama might have ambitions but he bit more than can chew. XIII’s first trailer was more cinematic than XIII’s actual gameplay in the final product. Even X was more cinematic with unique camera shots and potential environment damages during battles.

          • Samsara09

The PS3 couldn’t handle that gameplay from XIIi’s initial trailer,I suppose.Nomura chose to delay XV to get his dream come true.Toriyama, however, chose to sacrifice his project in order to get XIII done, regardless of it being rushed or having a messy development.Quite ironic.

          • Izzeltrioum

Didn’t both DQ and FF get inspired by Dragon Slayer? JAPRG came first!

      • PragmaticSoul

He said that they need to get back to their roots, not that they need to mimic older games. You’re being presumptuous.
Back to basics means back to basics, as in focus on solid gameplay and story telling, as opposed to trying to appeal to every single gamer audience from FPS fans to unborn babies.
My goodness, what is with people getting so defensive when someone suggests that Square just needs to go back to basics?

    • Tarkovsky

No offense but I think FF would die even sooner if you were in charge of it. You just can’t keep relying on the past to keep the series moving forward. The one thing I always respect about Square and their handling of the FF series is their willingness to experiment and try new things even if they may lead to failure.

    • Samsara09

if you are gonna post something like that,at least use arguments,if not,it looks like you are simply baiting people.

    • Stephen Mc Devitt

Hiranobu Sakaguchi once said he was better at telling stories than making video games, so likely if the story for XV is good, as in the style as Final Fantasy Tactis, Suikoden or Game of Thrones, then XV can still be recognized as Final Fantasy regardless of gameplay.

    • Nearly all final fantasy games are “not what they were”

  • FTM

I remember being excited with the footage of this game some near decade ago— and I’m sure it’s still just as exciting, but I literally feel nothing from it.
When this game releases, I seriously won’t be able to reinvigorate my interest even if it has perfect scores and ceaseless gamer praise. I’ll be bargain binning this one.

    • kaotron

yeah, you can only hype a game for so long. i will never understand how some square fans will still faithfully wait for this game after almost a decade ago.

      There’s development hell and then there’s ff15…

      • Maybe we don’t care about hype as much as we do actual games…

  • MagiusNecros

Will probably show same amount of footage at E3 give or take with 5-10 more seconds of footage. And no release window. Even though it’s been 8 years since 2006. But keep trooping SE.

  • angelx03

Oh man, I wonder what would be like to play as Stella…..

    • Slickyslacker

      White magic. White magic everywhere!

      • angelx03

I just hope for playable females. They can’t just have the guys doing those crazy gameplay moves!

  • chroma816

It’s actually become hard for me to believe this game is ever coming out. Every time I see new footage, or hear that the development is going smoothly or whatever, it seems unbelievable. Not because the game looks “too good to be true”, but because we’ve been waiting nearly a decade.

I’m sure it’ll be incredible when it releases, but until we get an actual release date/new info/an actually new trailer instead of 20 new seconds/etc, there’s nothing to be excited about.

    • Alex Shadov

Yeah… LR FFXIII… FFXIII-2… FFXIII… If we are talking about improvement then FF XV will be THE GAME… or not.
Right now I lost all my hope in FF games, I’ll probably buy it when it come out, but the hype is not longer there.
I’m more interested in Bravely Second.

      • Howaboutno

Why have you lost your hope in the series? LR:FFXIII was by far not it’s worst game (that honour goes to FFXIV or Crystal Bearers), and there is an extremely logical financial explanation behind the creation of the “Lightning Saga”, most fans, I’m not sure if you’re like this, aren’t interested in the politics of video game development. But the ones that are understand the developers and most of the decisions they make from a design perspective.

That being said, Square has never been good at writing stories that make sense. They seem to create these big worlds and lore and explore basically none of it in depth during the actual game.

Also, if FFXIV A Realm Reborn (one of the best MMORPGs ever in my opinion) is any indication of Square’s efforts being directed back onto the right path, I think we can churn out more decently crafted FF games.

    • natchu96

Regardless of whether it comes out it will never live up to the years of hype.

  • OathkeeperSoraXIII

Very underwhelming but at least there’s some new footage ^^

    • Starlord

What did you expect from a little convention that not even really related to gaming? If fact I’d say they gave more given the circumstance they gave it at. 40 secs of new gameplay footage + basically telling us FFXV will be at E3 2014. (We like to keep it a surprise/ Actually, not only June). Dead giveaways :P.

      • Im not always a fan when Media does this but they need to secure exclusive content for e3 whcih means taking the new and splicing with the old for events like the one in Taihland

        • Starlord

Personally, once they start going to places that they don’t normally go to, to advertise their game, I feel that’s the start of a marketing campaign.

          • Yes I agree.
It actually started last year with several items for sale to the public. Usually I judge the release by those items too. To be exact I think its 3 items in 2013; and 1 item for 2014.

Clear Files. The Wall Scroll. And the Perfume. The perfume I believe was the first item.

2014 will have the Noctis Play Arts Kai, so far. It’s actually available for pre-order at a few places.

          • Starlord

Ah yes, they did start last year. I am unsure why some people always think they aren’t going to show FFXV even last year they didn’t think it would. Well, we shall see if it comes at E3 this year or not.

          • Lol. Im not sure if people “think” that way. Or, are trying to convince others that that is the truth? I was just told all they do is announce announcements concerning the title and never show footage. Although, that is the core of this exact article they posted in >_<

I think you may have been following as closely as I have. Nomura has been putting out some enticing teasers directly related to XV earlier this year. If you speak Thai, you already have a clue from the video.

I am only basing this on Nomura's comments earlier this year, and even this new video. But given those 2 instances, it's a no-brainer this one will be at E3.

If i'm wrong it doesnt bother me too much. And even though I am pretty much 80% sure it will be at E3, I could also be 100% wrong with that assumption lol.

From what Ive seen from the game I can be playing it in 5 years and be fine. Personally hype does nothing for me. I don't mind waiting for the final product within reason… MY reasoning.

And as a back up plan, I do things like:
            Play other games
Talk to people not on the internet
            Walk my dogs
            Work on my personal hobbies

This formula only seems to work for a select few tho so I would not recommend it.

I think the only way to change most minds about Versus would be for Square to make it a Nintendo Exclusive. Then I'm pretty sure more than half of the JRPG Fan community would give up some old convictions they have of the title lol.

But why would they do that? There's no need to pander to the minority as even turn based Final fantasy is able to tip the scale as far as rpg sales.

          • Starlord

I just spoke with a person that says, “They probably used a translator to post the article. Even when you google translate the Japanese version of the Article:

It’s roughly the same thing that was said in the english article. Maybe some people are in denial because Versus has been considered vaporware because SE choose not to say anything. However, now it’s a mainline FF title. It now has more weight underneath of it.

I am sure it will be there at E3 because hey Hashimoto told us we will be excited! :P. Anyways, we are only 24 days away from E3 we shall see who ends up being right :p.

          • lol indeed. in fact, I could be way off with that assumption. I notice that square has been giving “hints” un the form of strategic wording. But if we are to take nomura and hashimoto’s dialogue concerning versus from time to time, all signs would point to something at E3. I wouldnt get too many hopes for anything playable. At previoys SE booths, they have a list of playable titles. I have never seen a megatheater style inveil for a playable title.

  • Paul Rodriguez

Now much to see. I hope E3 brings us more. The same goes with Kingdom Hearts III.

  • Captain Levi

Let me guess: none of you guys knew about this video.

    I may be wrong tho.
    Well, have fun.

    • Dystopiq

      • Captain Levi

This is a reupload, since the original footage was released in 2013 (or near the end of 2012, I don’t remember well) or something.

I was surprised because I wondered how the hell I missed a video like this one.

And then… seems like almost none was aware about it… or similar.

Heh, guess I’m kinda late. You know, “spring cleanings”

  • Dystopiq

I was a senior in high school when FF XV (Versus XIII) was announced. FF XII was released a few months later.

    • Slickyslacker

I was going into 4th grade.

    • Stephen Mc Devitt

I was 16 when Versus XIII was first shown. When I had a DVD with the debut trailers of both XIII and Versus, Versus was the one I always watched more because it was longer and thus more time to sink in what kind of world Versus takes place in.

Even back then we had a better idea what the story was gonna be about than when we played XIII. Perhaps this shall be reflected in XV’s launch.

      • Ohhhhhhh

You mean the one where he has a nearly 2 minute conversation with “Stella” concerning her Etro powers ;)

  • ShadowJetX

I wonder how much of this game is going to be QTEs.

    Hopefully not a lot.

  • Ethan_Twain

Geez, that looks SO much like Kingdom Hearts. The free running and dodge rolling and zip around teleport attacking is straight out of the Kingdom Hearts playbook.

This isn’t the worst thing in the world, but it’s not exactly something I get super enthused about. Kingdom Hearts is okay but it’s never had the action chops to compete with the best action games or the RPG depth to compare to the most rewarding RPGs. Kingdom Hearts sits in a kind of okay very button mashy middle ground.

And I guess I was kinda hoping for more from FF XV. Hopefully I read this footage wrong.

    • Samsara09

Hey,where did you have the honor of playing XV?Did you use,I don’t know,a time travelling machine?
      Sora teleports?Right…

      • OathkeeperSoraXIII

Sora teleports during the Xigbar fight in KH2 as a reaction command and also against the Sniper Nobodies…I see your point though ;P
Edit: Aqua also has quite a few teleport abilities in BBS :P

        • Samsara09

I would like to have him teach me how he saw kingdom hearts in final fantasy XV with just 10 minutes of gameplay based on the game’s beginning.Maybe he had a sharingan?Maybe he was really smart?

This game was too much like kingdom hearts, based on that 2011 trailer. This is why I think they put the game on the PS4.Right now,I would say it looks rather different, but since it is the same staff, there will be many things alike.

          • OathkeeperSoraXIII

I think he just means from the gameplay perspective since you have free control over your character to attack what you want, when you want. XV and KH are both directed by Nomura so there’s always going to be similarities with the gameplay. But that’s where the similarities end

          • Samsara09

yes, there is summon…and if we check the little we know about the playable caracters’s movesets,it is QUITE different from KH’s gameplay.Prompto, for example.

          • OathkeeperSoraXIII

Kingdom Hearts also has summons. okay, i didn’t really want to turn this into an arguement, I just wanted to point out similarities lol. Prompto’s gameplay has a 3rd person shooter aspect to it. cool, But from Noctis’s gameplay, it’s similar to Kingdom Hearts’s gameplay, the hud is similar too with the commands to the lower left and then your teammates health to the lower right.

          • Samsara09

hey,we are pals here!Just having a friendly exchange of info.
ah yes, they had…but eh,summons here probably work a bit differently here.
Noctis can invoke that shield of crystal weapons…and I think he can use them as projectiles.

          • OathkeeperSoraXIII

^^ yeah they will probably work similar to the older FF summons where you call them in for a powerful attack and then they vanish…although I’d prefer if it was like X or XIII where you had a bit of control over what they could do.

          • Samsara09

XIII sucked in that regard, since the eidolons were weaker than your combined party.people usually only summoned them in order to revive all the party members and act as a meat shield.

X was great, for the aeons were behemoths.i managed to trounce many bosses using only summons.

I see the summons as a kind of “last resort” or “trump card”.

X’s problem was that they were overpowered and easy to abuse.

XIII’s problem was that although they were pitiful, they did feel like a “last resort” or “trump card”,considering the conditions to summon them.In the end,it was impractical.

Now that they did both extremes, they need to settle for the middle ground.Summons that aren’t too strong or too weak, and that can’t be abused or be impractical.

          • Oh yes the summons in 15 :) there’s also a limit break like option. And player specific spells etc. they also seem to be sharing equipment too

      • Ethan_Twain

There’s been more and more characters doing flashy teleport antics in Kingdom Hearts games as the franchise progressed. By the end of 3D, the most recent installment, both characters had a wide variety of moves available to zip around a battlefield.

I see a lot of similarities to Kingdom Hearts in this footage. The teleport attacks remind me of Kingdom Hearts, the dodge roll reminds me of Kingdom Hearts, and the “action game with a command menu in the corner like a turn based game” shtick reminds me of Kingdom Hearts.

I apologize if pointing out superficial similarities between two different Square Enix developed action RPGs offended you. However, I do not think that pointing out the parallels is unreasonable or incorrect. Nor do I think that it’s necessary to have played the game to make such observations.

        • Samsara09

Sorry for being rather spiteful with you .I wanted you to think about what you said and realize you were careless.I apologize, although it did work :D

You did realize my point. Also,if you think that is kingdom hearts, watch the XV/versus trailer from was an almost copy of kingdom hearts.

        • Feenyx16

Tetsuya Nomura (director of both kingdom hearts and ffXV) even stated in the past that any gameplay mechanics not usable in KH3D would be used in FF XV. its only natural that they have similarities, given that he’s basing at least part of the gameplay off of kingdom hearts

    • Lynx

We’ve known this since it was announced.

And XV was supposed to serve as the basis for KH3, iirc, in terms of gameplay engine and all that.

  • shuyai

i slapped my face and head butted the wall when i saw FFXV news to make sure i am not dreaming then i slapped my face and head butted the wall again when i saw no news to make sure this is a dream

    • Samsara09

welcome to the Xv fanbase,we do that all the time.

  • Stephen Mc Devitt

Oh my gosh, how I want this game. How I want to play so badly.

With a large-scale in setting and gameplay, the kind of setting and architecture period, the music and the royalty/yakuza/mob-family-household-style story, the characters would need voice actors to do them justice.

Possibly Joseph Gordon Levitt as Noctis, Kristen Bell as Stella, Troy Baker as Ignis, Jeremy Shada as Prompto and maybe have some of the voice in the same booth so the delivery of the lines can be more realistic and believable.

A bit far-fetched wish? This game will be directed by Tetsuya Nomura. Remember how the Kingdom Hearts titles got big actors who some original characters like Christaphor Lee as Ansem the Wise and Leonard Nimoy as Master Xehanort?

  • rurifan

I still have trouble being excited about this game’s sausage party with only male playable characters.

Note to Square Enix, men who look like women are not a substitute for actual women. (My apologies to the vocal transgender demographic.)

    • Stephen Mc Devitt

If Ifrit gets in Final Fantasy XV, the summon should a beard made of fire and voice by Brian Blessed since FFXV is going for something like Shakespeare.

      • What about Diabolos being voiced by Tim Curry?

        • Stephen Mc Devitt

          (Evil grin)

    • Samsara09

if this game had tons of woman, people would whine about the eventual fanservice.

      • Stephen Mc Devitt

Plus X-2’s party entirely consisted of a female party.

Maybe XV would better contrasted to X-2 than XIII as X-2 is all cheesy and “campy” while XV looks very SHAKESPEAREAN!

X-2 is like Charlie’s Angels while XV can be like Hamlet.

        • Samsara09

    • kaotron

as long as the story is good I don’t care if it’s all male or female. But the whole jpop boyband look is a bit disapointing..

    • Wow the apology with the offense back to back? Who let sterling in here?

Senran is also…. a game. did not see any complaints on that ones gender centric ass jugglers.

Plus the word excited is starting to sound like an inuendo when paired with all male and having trouble getting excited.

      • rurifan

        … what?

  • Brimfyre

Caim! That’s who the main character reminds me of. I always thought he looked like another video game character. With Drakengard 3 about to come out I guess it finally bubbled up to the top of my brain.

He also looks like the villain in Resonance of Fate.

    • Stephen Mc Devitt

Perhaps whenever Noctis glows red eyes, he’s infected by the watchers or it just transition to ax-crazy/murdering-children-gleefully-mode.

      • kaotron

He always reminded me of sasuke uchia(maybe it’s the emo look)

        • Stephen Mc Devitt

Naruto-PFT! Don’t give me the idea of comparing a game that doesn’t seem to annoy with that pandering drivel.

I’m a man who seeks fantastic stories with twists, turns, memorable characters and philosophical questions. I’m into dragged-out nonsense that has nothing to do with ninjas and only pander to teenage girls that going like “EEEMMMMOOOO! FFEEEEELLIIIIINNNGSSSS!”.

That’s like comparing Scarface to Twilight.

          • kaotron

I don’t like naruto all that much either(in fact, I really hate it) but he really does resemble him.

          • Stephen Mc Devitt

From what I read, Nomura said that Noctis will not be another “silent, gloomy little boy”.

          • kaotron

well, I hope he’s right because from the trailer all I saw was a super angry, black leather lover who remained completely silent and emotionless while killing off an army.

          • Well he did make the character… Square started doing gameplay videos in response to people complaining the gameplay was nowhere to be found. And I give Siliconera users more credit than to base a JRPG character soley on a battle trailer…

          • kaotron

Are you talking about first cinematic trailer from ’06 or the extra few seconds they added to the cutscene after a couple of years? e

Honestly, i cant say much for this game either but I only saying that my first impression of noctis is that he resembled the typical angsty spiky haired protagonist common in many animes and jrpgs.

it’s already very clear that this games dev progress is moving slower than molasses. since they had to even change the name of the game and the designs of the character(along with some other things..)

SE is already slow, it just sucks more that they had to do something stupid like announcing a game that doesn’t even have plans on starting yet, and here we are about 8 years later and still no confirmed release or progress in sight.

          • I’m talking about neither of those. The one where he is in the Roen suit that cost over $9000 USD. It’s on a limited edition DVD so I understand if people havent seen it. You should be able to find on youtube or the like.

            First Impression are a bitch.

Dev Process only officially started less than 2 years ago(?). Technically the game had a period of a complete stop. Now that XIII is over, the teams from that are now working on XV (ONLY CONTENT DEVELOPERS DONT TWIST MY WORDS LOL). Since this is the last known development structure from square, I would have to PERSONALLY discredit that claim. I’m sure its suitable for others who have not followed the game as closely as others.

            Yes square is slow…

and to that I must only say Slow does not always mean a bad thing wehn working on a project.

This however does not mean it was ok for dev to take so long on versus.

          • Wow really? I thought it was something about people being surprised (this is for JP only people) when they hear the voice actor chosen for Noctis. Also more recently he said he is not reclusive but very humorous or joking at times.

Also with the game coming out on ps IV and 360, it’s strong appeal and attractiveness to gamers outside of the fanboy realm. This game is going to be selling to gamers who have never played an ff before. The appeal and market for a title like this goes beyond the otaku. Not like a persona or arc rise game. All square has to do is promote it well enough. Also from the trailers on the DVD. I’m not sure if I should expect a teen or Mature rating. If it’s mature it’s better as most adults aren’t limited to buying 1 title per visit to gamestop, amazon etc.

  • Prithivi

I’ll wait till I have more information of the battle system to say anything. But so far I’m not precisely crazy about this game… Graphics look cool though.

  • Masa

FFXV looks really good but after the awful FFXIII and its even worse sequels i just can’t get excited for a FF game anymore.

Look what you have done Square! made me, a FF fanboy since the early 90’s unexcited for my favorite game franchise…………

    • Why do you let a subseries ruin a whole franchise for you? It’s not like these same people who created the games you did not like, are going to work and make a carbon copy of the game here.

Final Fantasy always brings a different experience across numbered titles, so I just don’t understand the disinterest in one game because the previous one didn’t work out so well for you.

      • revenent hell

One or two wouldn’t be a big deal but when you consistently get game after game after game after game of disappointment its wearing.
Not every game will be a win for everyone but when you have multiples in a row of a franchise you once loved its a little disheartening to say the least and can rob a person of hope for future games.

        • Alex Shadov

That’s probably because there is something wrong in the mindset of the company producing those games.

        • But that’s my point, these were the series of games set within the XIII universe– a sub-series.

People didn’t like XIII from the start, and I’m sure that many of them refused to try the other sequels for these same reasons.

These were the same people who worked on the original XIII. They went on and attacked the previous game’s faults while trying to craft a better/ fresher experience. Whether people liked that or the following game is up for speculation.

I’m saying that XV looks to be a far cry thematically and in its setting, characters and so on… not to mention being helmed by different directors.

I thought that the despite the bad taste the XIII games might have left some fans in, that this game would drive that interest back up because it’s different.

          • Alex Shadov

Hey, I loved XIII, then they made XIII-2…

Then they made the fu&1#@ XIII-2…

LR XIII was a good game.
My point… they are concentrating on the wrong stuff, if they keep doing it, every game, don’t matter the director or producer or whoever work on it, it’ll be [email protected]

          • What do you mean, concentrating on the wrong stuff?

I kinda feel I’m going to hear another “going back to their roots” claim again. Forgive me if that sounds a bit rude.

          • revenent hell

Personally I think they focus to much on the “pretty” (graphics and making characters look realistic ect) rather than focusing on a good enjoyable battle/level system and story. …………… But that’s my viewpoint.

          • Kazuma Kazzie Kaz Kaz

Don’t forget that this is a different team and director working on FFXV, it will be “nothing” like the XIII series, don’t worry about that.

Also based on what we have heard so far, they ARE working a lot on the gameplay and exploration much more compared to XIII, which you will see soon enough when they finally show trailers of exploration, towns etc. Get hyped.

          • Alex Shadov

They said it… sorry, I don’t remember when or where, but they said that while trying to make games appealing to the western public (or something like that) they pretty much mess it up… a lot.
And about the roots… well, Bravely Default did great here and there.
And yeah, I don’t WANT them to go back to the roots, actually, Crisis Core and LR FFXIII combat systems are my favorites. So, FF XV could be nice… I wonder when they are going to localize Type-0.
And sorry for the change of topic.

          • I was surprised how much better LR was. If xiii, xiii2 had the same battle system as LR I would have enjoyed them more

          • revenent hell

I get what your saying, I do but to be honest I don’t even have a mild hope this games is going to be any better in any respect other than it might not suck as much as the last four Final Fantasy’sI have played.
How can a person consistently let down have hype or be “happy” about a game in a franchise that has done nothing to earn or prove that hype is warranted?

          • How can a person consistently let down have hype or be “happy” about a game in a franchise that has done nothing to earn or prove that hype is warranted?

That depends on the person. Honestly, I’m hyped for XV and I feel that because the person directing it is the guy who made KH, one of my favorite series.

Also, I am a firm believer that every FF has its lovers and haters, so I use the varying differences between all the games, that had their own experiences to hype myself. I look at every FF game as its own game, so I don’t like to use the previous number or past track record to see how this one’ll turn out.

I think I see how you feel though. You hated the last few and on that basis, have no reason to feel excited for any future game; that nothing SE did lately warranted your own personal interest.

I guess all that’s left to say is that I hope this game pulls it off and gives you hope again, even if you don’t have hope in it yourself. Because I see a lot of things I like in a Final Fantasy in XV.

          • revenent hell

Overall my comments where really to show while its fine and dandy to say ” You shouldn’t judge this game based on the past disappointment” its really hard not to for some. For a variety of reasons.

Actually I am rather “ok” with what I have seen of this game and wish they had have focused their efforts here rather than “there” but to late for that…

Open world, engaging story, characters that induce empathy in me and a battle system I ,as the player, am necessary for and I will be happy. I am fairly simple to please. Maybe throw in some fun quests/mini games as the cherry on top just for fun.

          • Will you be my friend? Seriously.

          • Sure, no prob!

    • Alex Shadov

I feel at you.. bro. The only good stuff coming from Square Enix lately, IMO, was Bravely Default.

  • eilegz

while i want to play this game, its weird the combat system its more like a musou or dynasty warrior game than a ff one….

other than that i enjoyed XIII series hopefully XV its better

    • AkuLord3

Probably like Kingdom Hearts but ok

  • AkuLord3

Not going get excited for it, was before but i know better now. It does look cool and interesting but wait and see

  • revenent hell

Since I like Kingdom Hearts the game play isn’t something that bothers me, if anything after playing the XIII games I kind of look forward to playing one where character positioning is in my control.
Though to be honest I have to admit anything “Final Fantasy” couldn’t fill me with more dread as of late… I don’t even hope this will be a good game I just hope it will be better than the three I played before it.

  • Kroz

i just pray we get a release date announced this year, they proved this game wasn’t dead and now im tired of waiting

    • revenent hell

I am sure SE is “considering” that

  • Kotori Itsuka

Omg, I want this game so much! I hope there will be some sort of ffxv ps4 bunduru(please get the reference) or something, or I’ll just have to wait ’till the price drops.

  • Demeanor

He freakin’ TELEPORTS! So cool! Cress Albain reborn! *o*

  • tubers

Wow. It looks like the game has been also inspired by God of War (other than SE’s own KH).

Those looks like a lot of possible QTE epic moments, also wall and ceiling mechanics.. also slam grabs on environments.

    I like it!

  • AndyLC

Cool to see Thailand getting the new footage first. Square-Enix is beginning to realize how lucrative the rest of the world is outside of just US/JP

    • So true. And they are trying to take advantage of that.

  • Izzeltrioum

This thing is going at the Cinematic Experience audience. Just look at that Uncharted x God of War gameplay! TLOU’s progressiveness as well. Let alone the QTE fest.

XV is a huge step backwards within the genre (Even for graphics. Artistic style FTW). Zestiria is taking combat to the next level, and X probably will mess up combat again but exploration is going even further beyond. And Kiseki making narratives deeper and deeper; longer and longer.

(OF COURSE THIS IS BAIT. But couldn’t hold any longer as how unstable FF/XV fanbase is. Just ignore, please)

Jokes aside, I still plan on playing it. Maybe it might become my next guilty pleasure, just like Resident Evil 6.

    • kaotron

yeah, I think a while back I told a super SE-fanboy that the xv gameplay trailer reminded me of uncharted and they adamantly denied it then said I was stupid for comparing a third person shooter to an action rpg apparently..

I dont like the direction this game is going either but I know I’m still gonna give it a try(after following this games progress for years, whynot?) But I’m only gonna buy it once it hits the bargain bin like any other triple-A title that got way too many reprints.

      • MrRobbyM

Amazing how we’re judging so much based on the first actual footage of the XV we’re going to get.

        • PragmaticSoul

You don’t need the entire damn game to make a judgment. The 2 minutes we saw gives us an idea of what the game is about. It’s most likely not going to radically change for the rest of the game.

          • I would have more faith in the game supplying me with that evidence than someones “slippery slope” like argument that his character traits are a done deal

  • Ecchitori-san

I miss the ATB turn-based games.. :( Still, worth seeing its development! :D

  • VeniVidiVici

But no I just can’t wait when this game comes out because in the years following it it will be a literal meme like every time a game is announced that takes more than 3 years to come out and people complain FF fans are just gonna be like sending pictures to them of Noctis’ face with the caption reading

  • Samsara09

I see, nomura. When noctis uses his warp ability to continuously blindside and attack the enemy in some of the new gameplay in the trailer…it resembled Riku’s Dark Aura.
    Noctis is quite OP.
he can throw his weapon as projectiles, while using them as a tracker for his long range warp…
he can do short warps around the battlefield to blindside the enemy and do ambushes, while evading attacks…
He can summon his weapons to function as some kind of shield…
    he can cast magic…
and use his gigantic mechanic sword together with his fire magic to make explosions…
and he can change weapons on the fly…
and that is not even to mention we still don’t know everything he can do.

  • mreffrey

Gameplay resembles between a mix of Dynasty Warriors and God of War, mainly God of War with all the giant monsters. Not sure if you can really call this a Final Fantasy game.

    • I think they can… Not sure tho. Might have to wait and see

  • PragmaticSoul

8 years. 8 fucking years. For God’s sake I was in 7th Grade when this game was first announced. Honestly, anything that isn’t a release date by this point just feels like a spit in the face. I will not apologize for my bitterness, you cannot expect someone to be blissfully hype for a product for 2920 days.

With that being said, how much of the game is actually going to be combat? I dread that this will be one very long QTE.

    • Actually they confirmed last night from my freezer that 9$% of the game is QTe. Nomura also said QTE or die and to sacrifice teenage wallets if you don’t want XV to end up on Ps5.

Maybe I’m wrong, but, I seem to notice that the development time complaints mostly come from teens and younger. When I saw that trailer I was already in my 20s.

My life probably has not been as eventful as some of the youth here making it harder too landmark the past few years. Maybe this is why the Wait had not bothered me

      • PragmaticSoul

It’s not about the fact that they were teenagers, it simply gives perspective on how long this game has been in development.
The fact that I was in 7th grade when the game was first announced, and now I’m soon going to graduate College, and there is still no release date, is a surreal realization.

        • I was only giving an opinion based on what I saw here.

8 Years is a God awful development cycle for any game. Not just games but also many other retail products. If you choose to use that as a scapegoat not to play the game is on the person. I cant hold Tetsuya personally responsible for financial and bad planning that led to the games now approaching release being delayed. I personally have no problems waiting for a more refined end result.

I guess you have to look at it as the game is NOW coming out. Either look forward to the future news and inevitable release, or be done with it because it took so long. There’s no point in debating the past now.

If you want to argue about squares stupidity in handling the manner, then by all means I agree they needed to handle it better. But I’m not gonna keep harping on them for that. And i’m definitely not denying the potential of a pleasant fantasy story set in modern times from one of my favorite companies (i know i will get backlash for that one). But I will forever remember the drudge that was “versus XIII” especially in terms of dev cycle.

If all people are interested in is the hype, then really there’s no need to buy the game. Just siphon your joy from all the excitement up until the release.

Lastly, love it or hate it, but Noctis’ tale is only the intro of the entire Story line (hmm… more kingdom hearts influence). Whether or not he is the primary character throughout has not been addressed tho.
This however only lends that the Dev cycles for the future episodes have been said to be shorter as building the framework was one of the biggest hurdles.

Lol. What am I doing? I’m trying to convice someone with reasons again ^_^

I know you’ve made up your mind so I’ll refrain from going so in depth next time lol

  • Robert Kupper

I am happy, the pauses between animations, camera movements .etc make this look like actual gameplay, not just a cleverly rendered in engine scene. Hopefully the combat is actually fun.

I like the tone already, it reminds me of FFVI in what little I have seen.

  • Quan Chi

FF 25th Anniversary has been going on for more than 5 years! WTF!

  • Eilanzer

i rly like the part when the FFXIII logo explodes *o*

  • Can’t wait to play FFXV, but the direction FF is heading is… ehhhhheehhhh =/. lol

  • xzeldax3

    Prayin for PC!

  • Ni ~Algidus~

“I’m low on health. don’t see me! don’t see me! don’t see me!” situation

  • natchu96

A barrier of summoned swords always looks sweet. Quite the sword collection too.

Wait, FFX is somehow my only FF exposure. Do they have a term for Warrior characters that also use magic?

    • Skeptika Crediblus

Depends. There have traditionally been different fighting jobs with different powers. For an idea, take a look at Final Fantasy Tactics (which is an awesome game, btw) or some of the earlier FF’s.

    • Red Mage and blue Mage for startsies

  • Ric Vazquez

I don’t know what to think about FFXV anymore…

    • Your comment reminds me of the complaints right after E3. Not saying that’s your point being maded lol.
I remember the complaint progression went something like this:

      1. Vesrus looks cool, But Testsuya Nomura is teh gh3y.

      2. Where’s Versus!?

      3. Everything Square Does is to keep me from Versus!

      4. More Lightning but NO VERSUS!?

      5. Where’s Versus ~Game Edition~ (Game Edition: where any project from any dev. team within square is only making said title to delay Versus + KHIII)

      6. A – Now that E3 2013 has happened, I don’t want versus anymore! You take too damn long Nomura!

      6. B – Now that I have seen more of Versus, I’m confused. You Take too damn long Nomura!

      7. Wheres Versus!? ~Release Date Edition.~

      • Ric Vazquez

Only that I didn’t think or say any of the things you mentioned, it’s just that they keep announcing announcements, and no actual footage orpreogession, which is a hype killer.

        • “Not saying that’s your point being maded lol.”
I prefaced the list with that. Maybe you missed it.

Not to mention video is considered footage. And this whole article is based on footage and not the announcement of footage

          • Ric Vazquez

            Recycled footage

          • Ric Vazquez

Yep, sorry I did miss it, I blame it on me reading too fast, on missed line can bring up a shitstorm LOL

  • Syn

Funny how everyone is complaining about QTE’s in an FF game when almost every limit break since the introduction of said moves has basically been QTE’s(and dont tell me otherwise, pressing a series of buttons to perform a cinematic event/”attack” ala Dolphin combo etc = QTE) smh, talk about hypocrisy. Game loks good tho, hope with all my heart it does not suck tho, waiting with baited breath on this one.

    • PragmaticSoul

Special attacks =/= an entire QTE. Don’t be stupid.
There’s a difference between just having special attacks as QTE vs having an entire gameplay segment be a QTE.

      • So the limit breaks in everything past 7 are what? Limit breaks are gameplay.

Not to mention saying someone is stupid for something that is hardly common knowledge may not be the best approach to having them see your point.

        • PragmaticSoul

There is a fear that in an attempt to vehemently push the “cinematic” feel of FFvs13, there will be an excess of QTE. Special attacks were such a tiny segment of the overall game that bringing them up as an argument for “WELL EVERY OTHER GAME WAS A QTE HYPOCRITES!” is, to put it lightly, stupid.

          • Stupidity is relative to the user and situation. Stupidity should never be linked to how much a person knows about a niche community as if it were common knowledge. That is my opinion tho. It just makes conversing about these topics easier it seems when you don’t assume every other user has the same viewpoint(intellect) as yourself.

I could argue that arguing over QTEs which to this point is an abstract element to this project as no one has confirmed or denied the existence of said mechaninc in XV, is also stupid.

I was reading his comment as: Squalls trigger command is a QTE. If you are talking about the mechanic, the renzokuken is like a QTE. If you had to program the fork events for the Renzokuken, It would be similar if not identical to coding used in QTE segments in games. Same goes for Auron’s limits in X. It’s a series of commands that creates an “If” situation. Thats all a QTE is as I have come to understand them.

If after these efforts I am still wrong about it (not just wrong by your standards tho), Perhaps im just too stupid to understand you. So possibly dumbing it down for me?

Also having fear of the unknown could be considered to be presumptuous by a handful of people. Or stupid to a handful of others. Not just in the otaku community.

  • Ronldbx6

lots of extended gameplay towards the end.

  • Ronldbx6

I hope they surprise us with a new trailer at E3 this year. Would be nice to see a new trailer for Kingdom Hearts 3 as well.

  • lyhthegreat .
