    Nice

  • Cruxis

So pretty much, this is the same version that America got? But for Japan?

    • MK

That’s sort of like the international versions that Japan gets for final fantasy games.

      • Audie Bakerson

About to say, SE has been doing it for like a decade.

    • Aesma

I don’t think America version has those Dengeki Maoh portrait though? Hope they’ll release it as DLC or I might have to buy the game again….

  • LM009

Man, it’s never the other way around.

  • Shippoyasha

This game deserves a sequel. One of the best grindy dungeon crawls I’ve played in a while. Sexy and cute designs, addicting combat system, great production values, pretty good story and characters. One of those rare games where the game itself overshot my hype for it. I really hope they announce something at TGS.

    • DAT Bird From DAT Cage

      Respectfully disagree.
One of the most grindy, boring, and grating game (add 1st person DC to that) with disappointing difficulty spikes.
Add moe and ridiculously dressed characters backed by a nonsense story with adequate production value.

Hopefully, we will not see a sequel to this specific game so consumers wouldn’t have to waste both time and money.

      • Aesma

Everyone has their opinions, for me, since I play games to pass time, Demon Gaze is a better choice compared to Etrian Odyssey and other games like those two.

I disagree about grindy part, since I don’t really grind and managed to complete the story and post game anyway.

        Moe, well, opinion.
Ridiculously dressed character, isn’t this normal?
Nonsense story? I prefer light and humorous story, but I guess that’s opinion again.

You =/= All Consumers. I’ll gladly buy a sequel for this game.

        • chibidw

          -Buys a Wizardry clone

          -Complains about difficulty

          -Buys a Japanese RPG

-Complains about Moe and ridiculously dressed

          ¯_(ツ)_/¯

          • darke

Agreed. But you still shouldn’t respond to the obvious troll. :P

        • DAT Bird From DAT Cage

True, but will never buy anything from NISA again. Seems like most of their games get trashed in reviews.

          • Aesma

…for someone who says ‘respectfully disagree’, you certainly seems to care about ‘reviews’.

            Reviews = Made by Humans
            Humans = Varies.
Ergo, Reviews =/= Collective Human Opinions.
Unless you can show me that
Number of Reviews = Number of Humans in the World.

          • DAT Bird From DAT Cage

Alright, I get your point. Lol, but you have not converted me.

          • Aesma

Don’t worry, I don’t plan to. People like what they like. People dislike what they dislike. It’s humans.

          • DAT Bird From DAT Cage

I feel glad to be considered a human… but what if I am not…?

          • Aesma

…well, I’m sure you’re aware what is happening to animals and plants…
‘For the Greater Good’ – Albus Dumbledore.

          • DAT Bird From DAT Cage

… well, but are you really aware of what is happening… and what will happen…

‘You exist because we allow it, and you will end because we demand it.’ – Reaper Dreadnaught ‘Sovereign’

          • Aesma

…oh well, It was a nice trip in this world.

          • DAT Bird From DAT Cage

Don’t worry, I am actually Sovereign’s daughter and he’ll listen to me for sure. :D

But you will have to continue to suffer while playing suffocating games such as Demon gaze.

          • Aesma

Hahaha, well… To quote an old song.
            ‘Life is but a dream.’

            EDIT: I’ll take my chances.

          • buddyluv324

By now you do realize that game reviews nowadays are really just taken as the eye of the beholder given the recent politics behind them in all ) especially with metacritic). Basically take it with a grain a salt. With that said I havent heard a single valid complaint you’ve given about the game other than the fanservice that you’ve given thus far. Dungeon crawlers have been know to be grindy to some degree and they’re usually not the most visual stunning genre. Also there are some petty unforgiving difficult spikes if you’re playing on the default difficulty but also depends on how much your party is leveled up, but also its somewhat more forgiving than other games of this genre in some areas. I honestly dont know what you were expecting from Demon Gaze or any games from a niche company like NISA but you seem to come off as just an asshurt troll who cant seem to give any valid complaints on the game.

          • DAT Bird From DAT Cage

In the spirit of Aesma, my “complaints” are valid actually, but they just don’t appear valid to your highness.

Moe art, grindy mechanics, and large difficulty spikes are all complaints actually, but they aren’t really complaints to you because you like the genre.

And I’m not an “asshurt troll”. I’m a Robot Princess. Don’t mock me!

          • M’iau M’iaut

            Enough.

        • hng qtr

“since I play games to pass time, Demon Gaze is a better choice compared to Etrian Odyssey”
          Uh…what?
Anyway, a lot of people are tlaking about difficulty spikes, does the game get harder later on? I just beat Neptune on hot and the game has been a cakewalk so far.

          • Aesma

Simply put, for me, Demon Gaze is more simple and easier to understand than Etrian Odyssey. Perhaps it is because I rarely play games in this genre.

Neptune isn’t really a problem. I think most people agree that the difficulty spikes happen three times.
Astarte, Shield (Forgot the name), and post game’s final dungeon.

      • Shippoyasha

No offense, but that whole paragraph reads like one big troll war bait.

I mean, the core concept is pretty oldschool. That’s where the first person perspective comes in (they still use a lot of character portraits to make it more palatable compared to many dungeon crawl Wizardry games out there). Not to mention the severe difficulty spikes at times. But the game gives you enough tools to get through it. More than the usual asked of games like these actually.

Can’t really help it if the moe/ecchi/manservice aesthetic isn’t for everyone. But it’s a lot better than I would have thought. Story has a lot of potential for a sequel too. There’s a lot of funny, cute and endearing moments. It’s as pleasant as a game of this type could possibly be, in my opinion.

      • Duo Maxwell

It’s like you don’t know what’s a dungeon crawler is. Or Etrian Odyssey.

Actually, I think you’re just trying to see how many post you can get from that troll post, because that sounds so unreasonable selfish.

      • Nightmare637

you don’t need to grind at all though. >_>

Just update your equipment/Artifact set up regularly, find a Demon Combination the fits your playstyle, and experiment with different classes to find a playstyle you like.

It’s actually a very easy game(well except for a couple major spikes, I’m looking at you Lord Shark)

    • buddyluv324

I’m loving this game! I can’t decide weather its the (fair difficult but fun) challenging gameplay, the demon bosses or the IA vocaloid music that’s strangely keeping me hooked lol! Despite some of the western reviews out about Demon Gaze, mostly bitching about the fanservice and basically bashing it for being a dungeon crawler , I’m hoping for more future titles out from Kadokawa Games / Experience to be released in the west. Oh….and Uranus was a bitch to fight against >D

    • Landale

I too would like to see a sequel. I just don’t want to see Fran again. Every time she shows up she sucks away the ability to enjoy the story, and pretty much killed the ending for me.

    • 0nsen

What about the common encounters? Are they fun because you have to use strategy for every enemy and will those strategies work on boss characters? Or do you just attack every encounter the same way?

      • Landale

Depending on how you put together your team, the tactic is essentially “God Mode” for common encounters, aside from a few group types later in the game that border on being bosses themselves in difficulty. For those, as well as actual bosses, you do need to strike a good balance between defense and offense or you’re never going to be able to win, especially with bosses that may possibly out heal your damage.

      • Ladius

I used the same base tactic with some twists through most of the game (healer using Holy Wall, paladin using Devotion, gazer and warrior using multi-attack skills while the wizard used support spells or attacks, with demons providing various boosts like the overpowered Neptune regeneration skill), even if normal encounters are really fast thanks to the fast forward option and some boss fights were legitimately challenging due to their heavy regeneration abilities, the debuffing, the rank switch or the use of summoned allies, and in the end I had to change some of my patterns in order to stay alive. The hardest battle is probably the one right before the final boss, at least in the main story since I haven’t had the time to do the post game quest.

Equipments are also extremely important (more than levels, at least if you properly place stat points and maximize each level’s usefulness), and finding some of them in the magic circle batltes (especially if you’re searching for an important end game skill) can be a bit of a grind.

All in all DG is a funny dungeon crawler that didn’t overstay its welcome, not the best in the genre but surely enjoyable if you like this kind of titles.

      • God

It depends, the Paladin is an ABSOLUTE gamebreaker, but even without the Paladin, i can get through most common encounters by just repeating (i think it was triangle), though you still have to mind your HP or some characters will die, and due to how scarce and rare reviving items are, you will probably need to go back to base to revive them, and that’s a pain.

        • Landale

The Paladin would probably be a bit less overpowered if only Devotion actually did as it said and worked on only the same line. Paladin up front, everyone else in back, and you’ve got both Devotion and Front Guard working to protect everyone. Add in the healer’s skills and the chance for Aries to make you magic immune for a fight, and it becomes very hard, though not impossible as the picture shows, for anyone other than the Paladin to take damage.

  • scdk

Is that 45 additional character portraits on top of the existing ones? Damn, I thought I was being cool by buying the original Japanese version before everyone else. Now I have a version nobody in their right mind would buy off me unless I nearly give it away.

    • Kyosuke Yoshino

and I got it for free, on Japanese PS PLUS, so I can’t complain.

  • DyLaN

For those who are curious, the blue haired elf in that pic is the manga original character, Camus (google translate from 卡缪).

Haven’t played the game, but I can feel that the manga is a good adaptation of the game. Though I have only seen chinese scans of it as of this comment.

  • XiaomuArisu

    Love the game~
    How about KanColle DLC? ;3

  • Kornelious

Pretty cool designs. I hope we get this as DLC in the west :)

  • Joseph Fontana

Given it come out in japan awhile ago but FUCK its still pretty new here(US) and its already getting rereleased AND its with english subs?! Also fuck the people saying “what grinding? i didnt grind blah blah” That sol fight was the most RNG shit ever it was pretty much pray he doesnt one shot your party/mars(lets be honest thats the only useful demon to have out) and pray sol doesnt move the demons behind his arms for to long. Or just zerg the fuck out of him, also you NEED to have true snipe or really specific weapons/artifacts or your completely fucked.
