Toukiden Extreme Demo Coming Soon To PlayStation Vita

By Sato . May 27, 2014 . 10:30am

Toukiden Extreme is an upgraded version of Toukiden: The Age of Demons, featuring three new weapons and a bunch of new monsters. Famitsu have provided a sneak peek of their weekly magazine, which shares a little more on some other new features.

According to the report, a demo for Toukiden Extreme will be available in the very near future, so those of you with Japanese PSN accounts should be able to give the new weapons a try sooner than expected, although Tecmo Koei have yet to announce a release date for the game.

The Mitama abilities in Toukiden are a set of battle styles and skills that players can attach with spirits onto their weapons. The first game featured eight different Mitama styles from the Attack-type that specialized in damaging foes to the Healing type that helped cure the player and allies.

Toukiden Extreme will bring two new Mitama styles, with “Destruction” and “Devotion”. More details on the new Mitama battle styles will be available once this week’s Famitsu magazine gets published.

Toukiden Extreme will be released on PlayStation Vita and PSP sometime in Japan sometime in 2014.

Normally I’d be upset that a game I just bought is getting an enhanced/better version…. but I enjoyed Toukiden too much to care.

The game was released in june 2013 in Japan, so the enchanted version (with twice the story content, iirc) will came out more than 1 year later.

Monster hunting games market is not like the online fps one. For now.

Yeah I tend to forget that since a lot of games nowadays have closer release windows between Japan and the rest of the world.

      • Here Here I agree

Oh can you call it a Hunting Or Raid game. (Monster hunting games is like hearing it be called a clone.)

Woo! I’m excited to try out the demo! little disappointed all they gave us is a “in the very near future” and not a solid date but it’s still good news! And destruction was part of attack mitama if i recall correctly and devotion… well i can’t remember what that was but i wonder if they’ll be changing up the attack mitama as well.

Neither the screenshot nor the magazine scan seem to show new Onis. I hope that by “new” they don’t mean the usual repalette of monsters because that got old with GEB, by now companies should strive to make a bestiary as diverse as Capcom’s MH~.

Yeah, I’m a little worried about monster variety in this game as well. I loved the gameplay in Toukiden to bits, but it definitely could’ve done with a larger amount of bosses. The fact that one of the first new monsters they’re revealing is another twist on a design that’s already in the game is a little disappointing.

Toukiden’s lack of variety aside, MH has had a long time to get where it is today. The first game mostly had wyverns as bosses, Lao Shan Lung and Fatalis being notable exceptions. Subspecies were also very much a thing in the games after that, like all of the Rathalos and Rathian palette swaps. I think it’s fair to give newer franchises like Toukiden and God Eater some time to establish themselves.

They did show the wolf in some earlier screen shots. I honestly would rather them keep quiet about any new demons until the game is about to be released or let players themselves see them in game when the game comes out so it’s more of a surprise but i doubt that’ll happen.
