Samurai Warriors 4 For PS4 Has Costumes From The Original Samurai Warriors

By Spencer . May 30, 2014 . 12:15am

imageTecmo Koei is bringing Samurai Warriors 4 to PlayStation 4 and they’re adding a classic touch. First print copies of Samurai Warriors 4 include a code for 18 costumes from the original Samurai Warriors.

The PlayStation 4 release also utilizes Cross Save so players can use their save from the PS3 or Vita versions on PS4 and then stream your character using the system’s share feature.

The biggest change is in the graphics. Here are more comparison screenshots from Samurai Warriors  4, which comes out on September 4 in Japan.

How does Samurai Warriors differ from Dynasty Warriors? I haven’t played a SW in so long that I’ve forgotten everything about it.

    • DaiRaiOh

No weapon switching, musou attack’s are of a different nature, stories are more focused, there are 3 different kind of movesets with more unique abilities and weapons to each character, along with other things I can’t remember right now.

  • Very nice detail on the PS4 verion. You can really tell the difference between the two.

  • Altin

Would be cool to see a PC port of SW4 as well. DW8 XL is a blast.

  • Roll Caskett

Difference is so tiny. Guess i wait for DW9,WO4,SW5 to actually released their full graphic potential without the last gen console holding back.

i sense another over-the-top blur and lighting… and photoshop like typical Koei

  • MrJechgo

    Yeah… PS4 is foggier and with more lens flare… ¬_¬;

    • FitzpatrickPhillips

More like far more clear, detailed, has better shadows and some added textures. But yeah, call it “lens flare”

      • revenent hell

Not for the backgrounds, really. If you look at them the ones in the PS3 versions are indeed clearer and the detail is obvious. If you look at the PS4 the clouds are pretty much the only thing “clear” to see the detail of, well and the sky is lighter in color.

The shadows are kind of debatable since if you look at the first set of pics I think the shadowing on the face is more natural looking for the PS3 over that of a curved line like in the PS4.

The thing that gives the PS4 an edge is the clothes and “accessories” do have textures that the PS3 does not contain as well as the features of the characters are more discernible.

The quality on the ps4 is an insane jump over ps3, The hair, lighting, and textures are incredible, makes the jump of watch dogs seem miniscule. The eyes on the ps3 version of these are completely unnatural and robotic lacking soul, there is so much personality in them on the PS4. Let’s not even get started on the gorgeous hair hnnng. The ps4 has realtime lighting instead of a set lighting, the list is just endless.

I loved the 60 fps on the PS4 version of DW so I am looking forward to this, the True version of Samurai Warriors 4 just hope I can remove the Witcher 2 depth of field blur xP

          • revenent hell

I happen to think the “lighting” makes the characters looked washed out and terribly pale in comparison.

The eyes don’t seem robotic or soulless to me but then again I don’t look for soul in characters I look for personality and the ability to produce empathy in me.

To me the only thing the PS4 version has going for it is the textures otherwise look wise the PS3 version outshines it in every other way to me.

i honestly agree with you, there was no reason to release a new system if the only thing it has been used to is to render better textures. i own both ps3 and ps4 and my ps4 is collecting as much dust as my sega Saturn is while my ps3 still rocking

          • revenent hell

            I’m in the same boat.
Bought the PS4 quite a while ago and I think the only game I have for it is Transistor…… Meanwhile most of the games I have pre ordered are for the Vita or PS3….

          • Sion Cruz

That’s a true shame, I’m utilizing what ports the PS4 is getting and getting a dual use out of it with remote play. I had the Ps3 version of DW8, the PS4 version is superior to me in all regards (textures, and more enemies on screen). To each their own, but me and my friends are showing KT some PS4 love. SW4 and WO3 will be a day one for us. Check out InFamous SS, and Watchdogs. I never played a Infamous game or had the desire to play a Ubisoft game since ps2. This generation is forcing me to broaden my already broad spectrum, and I welcome that. Btw, to the person with the dusty Sega Saturn… that’s just wrong… it’s an amazing 2D damn near arcade perfect machine made for SNK/CASHCOM/ Sunsoft games. Not to mention the best port of Akumajou Dracula X: Gekka no Yasoukyoku.

          • Hector Velar

you will be VERY jealous if ypu find out the games i have on the Sega Saturn ;). but ibeen playing it, just not this year.

  • So. Much. Blur. Effects.

I was going to be blind because of this when I was playing DW8/XL on PS4. Hopefully their “true” PS4 games will not look like that.

    • revenent hell

I’m shocked people would deliberately blur stuff. Its an awful effect if not used wisely and just makes my eyes hurt. If they want to reflect reality, things immediately in ones background aren’t blurred. Maybe in a snowy field, fog laden landscape or a desert yeah but most definitely not houses and tree’s.
And as someone who is surrounded by an ocean I can honestly say it never looks blurry unless of fog or because I take off my glasses.

  • AnotherTime

    Blur intensifies.

  • Kornelious

I never played any of the other Samurai Warriors…But if the costumes look cool I shall buy :D

  • revenent hell

I’m a broken record. I really think the PS3 versions are much better. The shading looks better and the backgrounds are more clear to see whereas in the PS4 version the backgrounds are more hazy and while the eyes are clearer for the characters they look much paler in color tone.

  • Locklear93

…how did Ronald McDonald’s daughter get to ancient Japan?

  • Strawberry Starlet

Calling it. The new pink-haired character is the reflection-made-manifest of the true insanity of Okuni’s soul. When they grow closer in proximity they start dancing uncontrollably and destroy the world. Also, the character’s hair is pink because she invented cotton candy and ate so much it melded with her soul. SOULS.

Is this a crossover with Sengoku Rance?
