Super Smash Bros. For Nintendo 3DS Makes It Easier To Get Revenge

By Sato . May 30, 2014 . 10:35pm

We recently got a look at one of Ike’s moves with the Eruption attack, in addition to a useful tip from director Masahiro Sakurai. He also shared a first look at the bottom-screen for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS earlier today on Miiverse.

“Pic of the day. Here’s a first look at the bottom-screen display for the Nintendo 3DS. Your name will appear in the area above the accumulated damage. And if you tap one of the fighter displays…!”

zlCfzR_BgyY93n-t5n “…You can highlight that fighter on your screen. This is useful when you want to get back at a particular opponent. You can also highlight yourself if you need to keep better track of where you are. This is a great benefit to having your own individual screen.”

Super Smash Bros. is in development for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.

This gives new meaning to the term “hitbox”

  • Dystopiq

So basically he wants to tear families apart

    • puchinri

      Families and friendships.

      • Reset Tears

I still say Mario Party and Mario Kart are more dangerous for society than a lot of the rated M stuff out there. Oh, the hatred that plumber and his friends have managed to fuel in the hearts of children and adults everywhere…

        • Christopher C

You think THOSE are bad? What about the rage inducing, friendship shattering:

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures

LoZ: FS (the game before FSA) focused on teamwork and nurturing friendships that FSA broke down.

        • Daniel

Freakin Mario party…so many stolen stars…for this i swear theyll pay

        • Samsara09

Fuck,I hate mario party, don’t even mention it.Just kidding though.I simply disliked how lucky based and easy to abuse it was.

Mario kart, not so would only be if you had a friend throwing red shells all the time at ya.

        • rob1610

          • E.T.993

Even worse has to be the Mario Party AI. THOSE LUCKY OVERPOWERED BASTARDS!

          • MaskedHeroxx

            Im so weak

        • God

It’s almost as much of a relationship destroyer as monopoly.

        • puchinri

Haha! I cannot disagree, really. Which, I gotta admit, I would not have it any other way. >’D

They’re absolutely wonderful for exacting revenge.

      • Ric Vazquez

  • Wafflenaut

    Oh, it’s on now!

  • Jettythesunfish

    Revenge is smashing.

  • rob1610

Finally! I’ve been waiting to see what the bottom screen of the 3DS would display. Not what I was expecting or hoping, but it’s still something.

  • Scissors

Just thinking they could do some really neat things for the Wii U version. You can have someone using the gamepad as some sort of ominous character creating platforms, placing items, triggering stage dangers, etc.

    • Christopher C

but not in multiplayer smashes. Too much power to the one with the gamepad. Maybe in challenge stages?

    • Eriol

The Pictochat stage could be actually pictochat.

  • Rikku Ishida

    Tim Curry’s voice:
“Oh we’re going get along swimmingly”

  • Kornelious

You know what they say…Redvenge is a dish best served…in 3D!……(Circkets) Ok i’ll go away now :P

  • Guy Wesley

All I wish is for an option to use the 3DS as a controller for the Wii U version like in Pokémon Battle Revolution.
Also, that bottom screen=Revenge mode lol.

  • Göran Isacson

Good… gooooooooooood. Sakurai is already working his dark Sith-agenda and spreading the power of the Dark Side far and wide.

  • dam4rus

    it’s ok… it won’t hurt you anymore

  • Tonton Ramos

That escalated quickly! On the IGN comments people bash the WiiU version and they will buy the 3DS instead just because it’s cheaper.

  • RagingTiger44

The game isn’t even out yet and we already have a divided fan-base! Smh…

  • Alestaos

Yeah thing is atleast the 3DS version can gurantee Nintendo more sales as a opposed to the less favourable console the Wii U.

  • SlickRoach

That’s what I’m going for. Won’t have to buy a LAN adapter and Gamecube controller that should have been included with the Wii U.

  • MaskedHeroxx

I have no words for those ppl…they obviously dont play game competitively , or hav a HD tv, probably jus broke and cant afford it lol.cus its cheaper smh

  • Mugiwara

You talk like you NEED to buy the Gamecube controller. >.>

  • Kouji Tamino

If the online multiplayer and style of controller is so important to you, than wouldn’t the 3DS version be the worst possible option? It lacks several buttons that both the Gamepad and Pro Controller have, and the wireless will likely be worse on the 3DS with no options to improve it.

  • MaskedHeroxx

Why should it have been included ..the gamecube port is only wanted by the smash community, kids these days wont understand how. Alsome our gamecube controllers where

  • Deletable Man

This is all pointless to me as I’m buying them both! Lmao!

    - Dr. Moneydick

  • MaskedHeroxx

I thought about it myself….if they dont got a wireless gamecube controller fuck it…ill use a wireless wii controller , I dont mind learning new things

  • MaskedHeroxx

    Thats HILARIOUS hahaha so true

  • MaskedHeroxx

  • SlickRoach

It’s mostly for the local multiplayer that I’d want the Wii U version but I don’t even know how the netcode for this will be . I’m praying that it’s better than Brawl but the fact they advertise the LAN adapter makes me doubt it. And personally I find the GCN controller to be my favorite controller next to the PS2/3 one so if I have the option to use it then I’ll jump at it.

  • MaskedHeroxx

Yea it will get more sales but im going for a way better experience and thats on the wii u son

  • Alestaos

Its better graphically and has some different characters and stages however sincr no one has played either the Wii U version could play terrible and the 3DS be the better experince or Vice Versa.

  • MaskedHeroxx

O god why am I replying to that

When has a smash bros game sucked , when have they made a smash game to the point no one played it @tournaments I see smash #1,#2,#3 ppl still play melee for fucks sake..Smash will sell wii U’s just like mario kart did. 3ds will be fun im sure for kids and casual play of smash. But wii U version ranning at a 60 frames , Hd tv , gamecube controller ports, why do I have to explain this…3ds version wont be the one at evo the coming years

    As for the wii U
Nobody bought it cus they think its the same as the Nintendo just wasent appealing, its not like fans hate Nintendo they got all thr fans…Nintendo making a better next gen system and it might sell idk, I do want a wii u but im waiting for smash,

Plus Nintendo has to stop doing so many to many remakes

  • Alestaos

My keyword was vice versa meaning either version could have a fault. And it maynot be a graphical or system one it could be a control one, for example the 3DS could have u press A and at the same time draw aline in the direction you for slide move. Imagine trying that out in competive play. I played melee all the way until my friend robbed me of my entire console and tv at that time.

About the Wii U i wish that Nintendo had come out with a new age gamecube atleast then it would be getting better 3rd party support. I understand those points but those points could made about the various fighters that are competitve and have a console/handheld versions (DoA,UMvC3 and i think SFIV).

Completely agree about remakes as well its about time for them to bring new IPs out or look at the back catalogue of there gaming so far. Would love to see new JRPGs from nintendo, FF started on a nintendo machine.
