Yoshi’s New Island Art Makes Us All Warm And Fuzzy Inside

By Eugene . May 31, 2014 . 9:30am

This month’s Nintendo Miiverse Art Academy contest featured Yoshi’s New Island. And man, are these things cute. Like, really cute. Sitting in on the judging panel was Tezuka Takashi, whose choice of winners leaves us feeling really warm and fuzzy. That picture of poor Yoshi in the pot trying to keep Mario out! TOO CUTE!!!!

As in past contests, these illustrations were all done using Art Academy: Sketchpad on the Wii U by the by, showing how versatile that piece of software is.

Art Academy Favorite Awards:

These are awarded to those who impressed the Art Academy developers for their use of the system. We have to say these are pretty snazzy!

The one with the pikmin is spectacular.

  • Namuro

The one with the Pikmins looks the best, while the Silver winner one fits the “warm and fuzzy” theme the most, in my opinion.

The Gold winner looks good, too, but it’s kinda…dark…

Cutesy drawings can’t erase the fact that Yoshi games have become so reductive. Yoshi deserves better :(

    Touch Fuzzy, Get Warm.

That third gold one … It’s something we don’t talk about.

While Yoshi’s New Island’s music makes our ears bleed.

    • Aaron K Stone

Maybe they can release a Music Academy and have people compose warm and fuzzy music for them?

Suddenly I’m missing good-looking 2D games like with Super Tempo, Wario Shake It, and the cancelled 2D prototype Kirby Wii.
    Those are really impressive :)

  • Göran Isacson

Ha ha, that one drawn by a Swedish person. Truly we are terrible people who take adorable things to terrible places :)

Also, that one with the Yoshi consisting of other Nintendo characters. Creative as hell, that one.

Oooo i am warm and fuzzy

You don’t get that they let her win? If that’s the case, well they’re encouraging kids and want to make them feel special. 30 year olds with drawing talent don’t need their approval ayway.

      • PreyMantis

You could be right, except the fact that there is no telling if she’s an actual kid or not. She could be a 30-year old dude that can’t draw very well for all we know.

        • Satori Satya

Well, you could always stalk her on Miiverse. And look up her posts.

If she suddenly starts talking politics and complaining about taxes, then maybe you’re right about her being an old fart who yells “Get off my lawn” as a hobby.

But I’m pretty sure, that that user is actually a kid. 99.9999999999999% sure.

And despite the bitter cynicism of a few who laugh at her efforts, she’s having a memorable day, thanks to that award.

          Good for her.

          • PreyMantis

I’m just saying because there are always those kinds of people.

        • http://keiserone.tumblr.com/ KeiserOne

There’s always a possibility of right and wrong; that’s why we should never question and be too quick to judge until we know for sure :)
