During Nintendo’s Treehouse Live @ E3 that took place after their digital event, Nintendo of America Senior Product Marketing Manager Bill Trinen shared more details on the interactive amiibo figures.

Unlike the Skylander figures, the amiibo won’t be restricted to one game, but with several others, such as Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Mario Kart 8 and more to come.

The first example we got a closer look at comes from Super Smash Bros., where you simply place the figure on the Wii U GamePad, and the amiibocan fight against other amiibo characters, or even your friends, as they gain experience and level up.

The amiibo will become your personal figures, as they can have their special moves customized, or trained to improve stats and expand tactical abilities. Having your amiibo fight others will make it gain more experience compared to fighting computer characters and other players.

The above is a look at just some of the upcoming titles that will have different features using amiibo figurines.

Additionally, Nintendo will release a peripheral next year that will make the amiibo compatible with the 3DS.

    Amiibo? Amigo? A Mii go?

    • D H

Actually, they said it’s based on the French “ami” for friend, rather than Spanish.

      • Robert Kupper

I guess Amii sounded too much like ‘A mii’

  • Slickyslacker

    …Lucina? Isabelle?

Was just looking over this picture…

Donkey Kong in the top right has that Mario Video stream icon over his face perfectly…
      ^ ,^

    • Kornelious

I will buy that DAY 1 if there is truly a Lucina figure! :D

      Lulz Mario-Kong Top Right

  • Chim_era

That wii fit figurine is going to be a hit, i’m sure …..

    • Bigabu Beaze

      Wii Wit xD.

    • AndyLC

      Indeed

  • http://www.hamstapowah.com/ Zaron

I was really worried how they’d handle this but this approach sounds actually pretty solid and has an ounce of integrity. Huh.

  • ronin4life

    That first pic.

*in bad Italian like accent:”Hello samus, how are you?”
*in bad fake girly voice:”I am doin just fine sweety.”

    >.>;;;

Complete with hand bobbing, of course.

  • pressstart

Definitely getting the Zelda one. Most graceful woman in gaming. Anyway, I wonder why they don’t make some Wii U – 3DS connectivity app so that the 3DS can use the Wii U pad as the NFC reader. It would be a great option for those who have both or even to push people to getting a Wii U :P

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Can’t wait to get my favorite character Kirby here.^_^

    …….Zero Suit Samus too i guess?^_^

  • Bigabu Beaze

If Nintendo doenst make a Custom Robo game using this it will be a huge waste of potential.

  • Kornelious

Ohhh, so THAT’S what that square symbol on the Wii U Gamepad was…….So they probally had this planned from the start…hmmmm

    • FitzpatrickPhillips

Pretty crazy when you think about it

  • AndyLC

“Fire Emblem characters are now recruited through Amiibo’s. When your Fire Emblem character dies, the Amiibo explodes”

  • leingod

If I can play as Kirby on Mario Kart by buying one of those figures… I’m totally sold :P

  • tturtlejosh

Well they better make the 700+ pokémon figurines

    • Robert Kupper

They will, but they come in blind bags. Shiny varieties appear with the same regularity as in the video games. Collect them all!

  • keithmaxx

Custom-made Mii figurine, perhaps? One can only hope.

  • http://hanzoadam.tumblr.com/ Hanzoadam

Another one jumps onto the band wagon

Though I knew it was coming

  • Robert Kupper

I really don’t like these things. Fundamentally its just another way of creating pay-walls to fully access the games you already pay for. The costs add up quickly too.

  • piichan

Lol, another toy-based game to empty your wallet. Tho I guess that you can use them with other games makes them worth the money.

    • Robert Kupper

My guess is Nintendo is thinking that if you have the figurines already you are more willing to buy the other games that use them. Its a smart business move. Makes players happy and more likely to spend on both figurines and games.

  • J_Joestar

I couldn’t help laugh when reggie mentioned MK8 as being compatible in the digital event and it cut to Death Stare Luigi pulling out a shell.

  • FivePointedTheStar

Does this mean… I can use Samus in Mario Kart? Or Kirby in Mario Party?

  • Covnam

These could be fun (and expensive) to collect, but I wonder why Mario is the only one with a special effect. I hope more of the figures are action style poses (with “effects”) like that rather than like Samus or Pikachu.
