Onigiri Will Be Released In English For PlayStation 4

By Spencer . June 11, 2014 . 1:38am

Onigiri, the anime inspired MMORPG we’ve been covering on Siliconera, has started an English language closed beta. The PlayStation 4 version is live in Japan and CyberStep will release the English version on PS4 too. An English localized demo for Onigiri was one of the titles on display inside Sony Computer Entertainment’s E3 booth. We saw Onigiri and snapped a photo of it there.

I wonder how much it improved. Not that it was interesting anyway.

  • AlphaSixNine

I remember now. This is the game I saw on that F2P montage Sony showed in their press conference. I just couldn’t remember the title at that time. It caught my attention since it was anime styled lol

  • Go2hell66

so what do you actually do in this game? besides run around with super generic animu girls?

    • Isn’t that enough?!

      • Go2hell66

For a free game i guess it is

      • I Lol’d.

    • FitzpatrickPhillips

It is an MMORPG. What kind of question is that?

    • Guest

From what I’ve played, pretty much. I’ve played it for maybe an hour and I don’t see anything too great about it. Granted, it may be in closed beta and maybe it’s just slow in the beginning, but gameplay wasn’t that special or really fun at all, and I couldn’t really get into the story.

In my opinion, the game’s pretty sweet. Weapons come in all sorts of shapes and sizes with interesting abilities attached to them. If you and your buddy have the same weapon then there’s a HUGE chance that you both have different abilities/techniques belonging to that weapon. You can craft weapons and magatamas which boost your stats. Techniques can be leveled up by using ’em.

Anyway, that’s really all I know about the game right now. I’ve played the alpha and closed beta which is still live on the PC. I don’t think it’s too late to test it out, there’s one more day left in the CBT…I think.

    • Finally someone who’s comment I can actually appraise! Thanks for giving a small summary ^_^
any cons or negatives you noticed?

      • jellyicexd

I don’t think there are any invincibility frames for rolling away from enemy attacks. When I tried to dodge a boss’ foot by rolling to the side, I was still hit even though the actual attack didn’t even land. The enemy hit boxes really need to be looked at.

Dunno if it’s just me but there’s a noticeable delay on when you attack an enemy. Could be latency issues, maybe. Lack of options for graphics and the ridiculous grind most players had to put up with. On the Japanese side it would take a player a short amount of time to reach level 7 whereas it would take someone from the US closed beta 7 or more hours to reach said level. Hopefully it’s fixed, considering the level cap which is above level 100+…it would be annoying.

Apart from that, everything’s fine! You’re welcome :P.

  • Thats really cool, I was a tad disappointed when I downloaded and saw it was locked for none JP users

  • Kinda knew this was going to happen. I mean the game is already on the PS4 in Japanese so yeah…. lol. It’s free so that’s a good thing at least.

  • Kornelious

Yes! I thought I saw it in the F2P presentation!

I have heard the game isn’t THAT good, but I don’t really care….It looks pretty fun especially for a F2P game (And note that my motives have NOTHING to do with the wide variety of Anime girls…….) Seriously I think it looks fun :)

I hope it comes out for the PS4 soon, and if there is a Beta, then SIGN ME UP! :D

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

    Thats pretty crazy and unexpected. I’ve been playing the beta on PC and it is fun. It also has a surprisingly nice cast of characters and dialogue;

  • Ni ~Algidus~

they’ll need to boost the damn exp rate first

  • Yan Zhao

So when can we have Blade & Souls or PSO2? MMOs people actually WANT to play.

    • Costras

Well, Cyberstep isn’t NCSoft or Sega. And there’s no single entity that releases MMOs here, so there’s that too

      • Yan Zhao

Yeah I wasnt really directing that at the publishers, it was just a general statement on how we cant get good things :<

  • Crimson_Cloud

Gave me a pretty average feel but the more I played the more I got sucked in. Probably cu’z of a fact that you’re carried throughout the story with colorful cast which have a neat personality that gets flashed out throughout interactions. They can help you out throughout missions, beats the solo factor if you don’t find good company.

I’m interested to see what happens next, honestly.

    so Free to Play games

    ……DC Universe, where i can make a Super Hero/Villian.
Star Wars the Old Republic, where i can be a Jedi/Sith
Defiance, with an Terraformed Earth where Humans and Aliens live alongisde each other and fight things.
Kingdom Under Fire, where we will be able to lead an Entire Army, alongside fellow Players’ armies, and just overall massive carnage ensuing.

    or This Generic looking game.

I might sound like i’m trolling here, but really there are so many better options already available.

    • Shady Shariest

Actually… This game is easily on par with DC Universe in enjoyable gameplay.
(And since i consider DCUO above all other examples…)

      • Warboss Aohd

perhaps so, but people put stock on franchises.

        • Shady Shariest

True. al tough franchise games tend to be reskinned clones or just uninspired.

  • Models could use more that anime charm. Makes no sense to attempt realism into these kind of games.
