Tales of Zestiria’s Mysterious New Character Is Also Of The Heavenly Tribe

By Sato . June 12, 2014 . 3:15am

During Bandai Namco’s annual Tales of Festival that took place earlier this month, we got to see several new features for Tales of Zestiria, including a new character by the name Zabeeda, who is shown confronting Slay and the others. Famitsu shares more details on him and more.

l_5396fd833ebfbZabeeda is a member of the Heavenly Tribe, who journeys on his own to hunt down some sort of demon. He’s a hunter-type of character who enjoys fighting powerful opponents, and he tends to go pretty wild once a fight starts.

He fights Slay who had become a Monk (Doushi) and is considered a very dangerous opponent.

Tales of Zestiria features a similar chat system as the other games of the series, but with a little extra as seen in the above screenshot.

The above is another look at the new “Kamui” feature, a system that allows the protagonist Slay to momentarily fuse with a Heavenly Tribe character at will.

In addition to the boosted parameters you get from it, it’ll start you out with a two meter (6.5 feet) sword to go with speedy movements. After hitting the third hit in a combo, the sword  extends to four meters (13 feet,) allowing you take out any monsters in range.

Tales of Zestiria is currently in development for PlayStation 3.

I remember reading in an old post or a Abyssal Chronicals article that he was also part of the Wind family, like Dezel, too. :>

  • DeAndre Atchison

Shame someone already made the KlK reference last time the word kamui showed up. 5 bucks says he’s member number 8 and you get him cause a bigger enemy than him shows up late game, making you guys band together to defeat it. But being the cool guy that he looks, once the enemy is dead or whatever, he’ll be back to fighting you again.

  • Derek E Nay

Dem abs… I want to touch them… and feel them against me…

  • DragKudo

Damn is everyone from the heavenly tribe? Thought they were supposed to be unique and on the brink of extinction. Half the team is Heavenly

    He looks col though.

    • DyLaN

Its just that muggles can’t see them IIRC.

      • ShinNeoGranzon

I just realized that since only monks can see the heavenly tribe, doesn’t that mean that every antagonist we fight is a monk? Guess that kills any dramatic reveal that the enemy is a monk. I can already imagine the enemy saying “I am… a monk!”, and everyone going “yeah, that was kind of obvious”. Also, how the hell do monsters and machines (assuming there are machine enemies) see them? Did they create a heavenly tribe Silph Scope?

        • Steven Higgins

Not necessarily a monk, they just have to have high spiritual awareness, which many monsters do. In the case of machines it could be some type of scanner.

  • Egil

If slay fuses with all the heavenly tribes members will he become tribe king?

    • Captain Levi

      Good one.

    • DeAndre Atchison

Can’t believe I forgot about this form

      • Is Starforce over? Is it still going or are they going to go back to Lan and Hub? Or are they just done with battle network stuff altogether?

        • Spirit Macardi

Well it IS a Mega Man series… Just take a guess what Capcom’s doing with it…

        • The 3rd (and best game) was the conclusion to the series.

    • Notquitesure?

      Looks like Omnimon for digimon.

  • Victor Wesker

It’s good that chat system is from Tales of Graces. I hope Namco will add battle arena/ coliseum arena with random enemies, cuz i don’t like same linear enemies. Why not add weather change (rain, snow, wind) and day/night change effect in same place? Because It will be less linear. You know when game is linear i may lose interest and stop play that game.

    • Slayven19

This post is all over the place…and the chat system isn’t from tales of graces, it came long before that.

      • Victor Wesker

I mean big icons of characters in chat system from Tales of Graces.

        • I do love the full body all the time skits. You only get that sometimes in the other Tales games.

        • Alexander Marquis Starkey

Yep, definitely started with Tales of Destiny 2.

          • I didn’t know they had skits in Tales game before Symphonia.

          • gk2012

            …They had skits since Destiny.

          • I wish I played that game. Leon, as I hear it, is a badass. But the game is so rare now. Even on Amazon I doubt it’s a decent price.

          • gk2012

You can try waiting for the translation patch for the PS2 version to finish, although i don’t think anyone has any idea when it will be done.

          • yeah, that’s the one I wanna play, looks and seems to play smoother than the ps1 version.

          • uyjulian

PSX version of Tales of Phantasia has skits.

          • gk2012

But that was released after Destiny. :)

      • gk2012

He probably meant that it’s similar to Graces. But yeah, the first one to use that was Destiny 2, if I recall correctly.

  • Göran Isacson

So, by merging physically with someone else, your sword grows and grows in length.

    *Eyebrow wiggles*

    *Eyebrow wiggling intensifies*

*Eyebrows wiggle so much that they suddenly burst into great hairy clumps that spill forth across the earth. There are no survivors. And one day, this tragedy shall repeat itself. Innuendos… Innuendos never change.*

    • LOL!
But it make be that his sword extends only with Leila. With the other people he merges with he could just be able to teleport or create doubles of himself and no changes to his sword at all. Fire is about raw powers, I doubt all the other elements act the same. I bet water style will just constantly heal you as you fight. Regenerating.

      • Göran Isacson

Oh, that would be pretty cool. Each element adds a different advantage, water regenerates, fire extends the range, wind perhaps buffs your speed etc.

        • Exactly. It it would be “broken” because some bosses likely could negate it with ailments or be able to do it themselves.

      • ShinNeoGranzon

You have some interesting ideas, but teleportation and clones seem a bit broken, those are boss skills. I’d imagine that wind would make you faster, but Slay already seems Jude fast, so maybe he’ll throw wind blades and tornados. Water should be regeneration and auto recovery from status effects, maybe use a water whip. Earth would use slower heavy attacks and probably have defense boosting properties. Really it just depends on whether Kamui just alters Slays artes and weapons or gives him completely new ones

        • I think it changes them. He seems to fight with a heavy knight’s 2hand sword style once in fire mode, but is a 1hand style as himself. I think his arts and stats and passive skills change. Later in the game maybe they’ll be options to stay in fused mode longer. But why 2 wind characters. Is one gonna die?

          • ShinNeoGranzon

Maybe they couldn’t decide what they wanted the wind boost to be, so they made two wind users so Slay could Kamui into a super fast close combat type or long range wind blade type

  • If Zabida is another elemental then that must mean they’ll be a group of people with the same elemental affinities the heroes have and they’ll be their antagonists. Otherwise, we end up with two wind types. And that’s nonsense.

  • Gotta say with the cast mostly together I really love the clothes for everyone but Edna. She’s the only one that does have an enigmatic or fantasy look to her. But I guess that’ll make he stand out at least amongst this cast. The characters also look smart too. No obvious goofball or idiot characters so far. In that regard Mikillo and Eda seem the smartest.

  • Erde

I don’t seem to like the character designs in this game. At all. Even the art design reminds me somewhat of Star Ocean 4. That is not a good thing.

    • nekolife

They’re done by a variety of illustrators. Most of them seem nice except the MC, not a fan of his outfit or face…

  • AuraGuyChris

It’s the Tales of Graces’ skit style. Sweet.

  • Hot damn. He’s built like a brick house. And I’m ok with that!

  • KrazyBean

The skits are like Tales of Graces…awesome.

  • Steven Higgins

I keep seeing “TWO wind characters?” But the article doesn’t say he’s a wind type, your just going by the green tips. He could be Light or Dark or something else.

  • Kornelious

Seems like he’s a solo villain, though i wonder if he’s related to whoever the main antagonist is? Maybe the Dragon is the antagonist! We don’t know much about it yet and it would be quite a twist

The animations for the skits are gorgeous and bring us back to Graces style, which i liked because you can see body gestures an such adding to the conversation.

The whole “Kamui” fusion thing is awesome, and since pretty much every other character except Alicia so far is a member of the Heavenly tribe, Slay has to have quite a few forms adding strategy to who you will fuse with when fighting a certain enemy (Though I wonder if there is anything special for Alicia? Maybe a dual Mystic Arte?)

Out of all the games coming out in 2015, this is definently my most anticipated, (That’s taking into account Persona 5, Bloodborne, and a few others) this game is gonna be a beast! :D

  • nekolife

Everybody looks great in this game except the MC. I hope he has a good personality to make up for it!

  • Magus KilIer

I hope Alicia can fuse too

  • Firekitty

Zabeeda x Slay fanfiction in five…four….

  • Hmmm Ansem? is that you?

  • Izzeltrioum

Based Udo Tatsuro. Advertising a battle system’s programmer is something you seldomly see nowadays.

And holy grinders! What if they eventually announce a weapon fuse gimmick?

  • beepboopity

Welcome, Slay, to the joys of wearing high-heels.

I fully expect Slay and Laila to bond over foot pain.
