Kemco Brings Another Old-School Style RPG In Link Of Hearts

Kemco’s back with its trademark 2D, sprite-based big-party battles and sweeping stories in Link of Hearts, their new mobile game.

The game stars the twin tales of partners Daichi and Lily as well as Mars the swordsman. The Earth is under threat, and Lily’s discovery of an ancient robot from an equally long-gone civilization sets off a chain of events and an adventure to boot.

Each character’s skills in battle are determined by Link of Heart’s Elemental Solids (ES) system. Characters have different skill slots, which you’ll fill with the ES stones to create different abilities and attacks to draw from. These can be further combined with support stones which could, for instance, increase the skill’s power.

You’ll also be able to turn defeated foes into in-app purchase points for additional dungeons and items.

Link of Hearts is out now on iOS and Android.

Oh, and if you enjoy the (pretty awesome) theme song, you can get it for free here.

The artstyle is really generic, which is a flaw here but gameplay wise it looks solid.

    • Derek E Nay

Some of their games have ok artstyles. The only Kemco one I have played had some nice looking art. This one is generic as hell though.

    • darke

That’s what I’ve been noticing. They seem to ‘recycle’ the art a bit (which is fine; that’s what makes then cheap), but every new game seems to refine their engine to make it that much more polished.

I wonder if they’ll start re-releasing older games in a bundle with an update of the engine at some point?

  • Derek E Nay

They really need to have a better map designer… Everything is so square in their games. (Not talking about the tilesets)

  • Masa

Looks so bland, plus 99% of these IOS rpgs have awful stories and terrible combat.

Looks good, but I’m not a fan of Android and IOS Titles.

You never realize how important silly things like menu designs are until you see games like these. Doesn’t mean it’s not fun to play or anything. But it’s not really fun to look at.

Outer glow: For when you don’t know what the hell you’re doing, your text is unreadable, and you need to ix it.

  • indices

So now there’s Tales of Hearts, Tales of Link, and Link of Hearts. Not confusing at all.
(Yes, I know they’re not all from the same company)

  • Monterossa

decent artworks but the game itself looks cheap. same as previous Kemco’s games.

  • Time Sage

Does the girl remind anyone else of Illya from Fate/Stay Night

    • Aristides

      yup

  • Postnjam

looks like it was made in RPG maker XP.

  • J_Joestar

The middle guy sorta looks like Zest from Nanoha
and the main guy looks like Cloud fused with a young me

Chances are if they did release it on another platform it will be a buggy and poorly ported mess that never gets a patch fix, like Grinsia.

  • darke

Sure, but it’s not free to play, and the previous games I’ve bought didn’t seem to be pay to win… there’s really no downside to them other then ‘needing’ to buy an android tablet, which you can get incredibly cheap nowadays.

It’s not as if a classic-console-style JRPG needs precise input of a controller after all. :)
