Arc System Works is known for making fighting games, but they have been dabbling with the music genre for quite some time. Magical Beat marries experiments like 0D Beat Drop with tunes from Guilty Gear and BlazBlue.

The game’s main theme is created by Kikuo. Addition tunes from XBlaze Code: Embyro, BlazBlue, and Guilty Gear is available as downloadable content. Arc System Works also made adorable BlazBlue and XBlaze pixel art characters.

Released in Japan last year, Magical Beat comes out in North America on Tuesday as a PlayStation Network download. A demo of the game will be available too.

Still wish this had netplay instead of ad-hoc only. Got to resort to ad-hoc party I guess

  • Cool, I’ve been enjoying this game (from Japan’s PSN) the past few months. Was just playing it today actually! It’s a fun puzzle game with catchy music and cute pixel art.
The Blazblue stuff is a fun bonus for fans of that franchise; the DLC is good just for having some more songs to play though.

  • All music composed by my man Kikuo!!!
