Tales of the World: Reve Unitia Tells The Story From Two Different Perspectives

By Spencer . June 22, 2014 . 11:35pm

Tales of the World: Reve Unitia is a spinoff game in the Tales series that brings characters from different games into a strategy RPG. This trailer shows some of the characters including:

Asbel Lhant from Tales of Graces f

Yuri Lowell from Tales of Vesperia

Lloyd Irving from Tales of Symphonia

Luke for Fabre from Tales of the Abyss

Milla Maxwell from Tales of Xillia

Meredy from Tales of Eternia / Tales of Destiny II

Ludger Will Kresnik from Tales of Xillia 2

Julius Will Kresnik from Tales of Xillia 2

Tales of the World: Reve Unitia is set in a dream world with two groups of characters. Lloyd, Asbel, and Tales of the Tempest’s Rubia are in one group. While Ludger, Luke, and Tales of Symphonia’s Presea are in the other. Here’s how Lloyd and Asbel’s story begins.

Tales of the World: Reve Unitia  comes out in Japan on October 23. If you reserve the game before August 31, you’ll get a code you can redeem for a free downloadable stage. Instead of DLC code for the eShop, you’ll need to redeem this code using a web browser and logging in with your Bandai Namco ID.

  • Ban The Jackass

I think it’s Luke *fon Fabre.

    • Land of Green Pasture

    • Daniel

I hate you jk but seriously now im trying to remember who or what fon fon is it might not even…oh wait its anime. Of course it is.

  • Izzeltrioum

Ludger should be a team on his own.

Seriously the most broken character in tales history.

    • Guardian Byakko

Uses guns, twin swords, and hammer
Kills people good and evil, can fight teams thought powerful alone, AND another form to increase powers that’s not broken or badass (sarcasm).

  • John Diamond

would it be one of those perspective games, where who you start with doesn’t really matter 3 hours in?

  • Zack

I know a lot of fans will get angry at my comment, but I don’t really like games like these. I know stuff like this is pure fan-service, but I feel the universes of ‘Tales’ game should be kept separate, as they don’t link in with each other to begin with. Well, I’ll probably end up eating my words if this game is as good as Dissidia.

    • PotatoPower

well, crossovers in tales have been a thing for way too long, there is already so much media that mix up different tales series characters lol, like tales of fandom and all those drama cds

      • Zack

I know, but they’re not games. It’s different when you have a game made for fan-service. I don’t really know how to explain it lol. The ‘Tales’ series is a bunch of games, so having character crossovers in drama CDs or commercials might be common. But a game is different. It’s what defines ‘Tales’, so people will want to take it seriously. Ah, sorry. I can’t explain myself well lol. It’s a weird feeling, anyway.

    • British_Otaku

Tales has had a lot of crossovers (Tales of the World Radiant Mythology had 3 games on the PSP – all pretty good) already like PotatoPower mentioned including a PSP fighting game (Tales of VS.) which was nowhere near as good as Dissidia from what I hear but the concept of crossing over the universes has a lot of potential for the series.

Each of the games have similar mechanics, so they have a similar starting point on top of the similar enough visual styles. With a SRPG, they can have all of them having a prominent role and even cases where the entire playable cast of a Tales game can be active and cooperating which isn’t very common.

I can agree that the universes have separate rules with some of these characters being dead, some of them being demi-Gods and some of them already having a change of heart which this game doesn’t reflect so how does it fit into the story? Well I don’t care. I can play as tons of Tales characters at once. We shouldn’t expect this to reach those standards in story but just give us some fun interactions between the characters, nice call backs and a reason to keep fighting even if the plot makes no sense.

      • Zack

Yeah, I’m with you man. I’ll most likely buy this anyway, haha. It’s just, with ‘Tales’ games, I just can’t help myself get sucked into the story. With this game, where the stories of previous games may or may not come into play, I might not like how they’ve done certain things, and this may impact on the standing of the franchise for me…

        • British_Otaku

With Tales of the World, it sorta of drops a lot of the relationships for lack of spoilers between Luke fon Fabre and Asch from Tales of the Abyss.

I think it can still be overlooked as it is the only way we can have a game with Jade (Abyss) and Lloyd (Symphonia) in the same game.

No one really winks an eye when crossovers like Marvel vs Capcom (containing dozens of incompatible concepts) or Super Smash Bros (which actually had a story of sorts) comes around.

You’ll be too busy throwing Falcon Punches to remember that F-Zero hasn’t had a game in over a decade and Captain Falcon never even punched anyone in the games (all appearances are in the Smash Bros games and anime which took notes for whatever reason). There are more story driven works which happen to be in these crossovers too, but I hung on F-Zero as I’m a bitter bloke.

  • Daniel

Tales of Strategy. I like the sound of this tell me more (hopefully in a language i speak)

  • PotatoPower

kinda random how they just threw in rubia like that lol

  • Spirit Macardi

The trailer shows Nahato just randomly attacking Terun… So I guess the cat’s out of the bag that he’s actually evil? Not like it’s surprising though, since he shares his name with a creature born from nightmares x3

  • Oh, so Luke fon Fabre starts off as the long-haired obnoxious self. Have to wonder if he’ll cut off his hair and eat a humble pie later on in this game.

  • British_Otaku

I’m really hyped for another Tales game on the 3DS, but the last paragraph of the article is reminding me of how bad One Piece Unlimited World RED was (mostly with the additional content distribution, but it wasn’t a good One Piece Unlimited game either)…

Needing a Bamco ID and needing to reserve the game months in advance of the release date to get a “free stage” (What does a free stage mean in a SRPG? For a fighter, it is a backdrop.)… I’ll keep an eye out for any promotional deals with other stores which include DLC or in game content, if I catch one whiff of it, I’ll avoid this game and get Gaist Crusher God instead, at least the first game was honest with how it was giving you content even if toys were attached.

    • DyLaN

Its just mean another bonus stage for you to play, doesn’t it?

      • British_Otaku

SRPGs usually have goals and preset enemies though, so they should be calling this as EXP mission or bonus mission or something.

It sounds like it is just a backdrop.

  • fairysun

    Where’s Pascal? :(

    • Guardian Byakko

I’m more curious about where Jude and Leia are.

      • Kornelious

I’m more curious about where just Jude is! :(

  • Kornelious

You know I would really like to see this localized if just to see all of the English voice actors make their comeback….Though if it is localized it will probally just be subbed :(

    • Guardian Byakko

I’m more worried that they dub the game and use different voice actors for some of the characters:( Whether it’s english subs or english dubs with original voice actors I just want this localized.

      • Spirit Macardi

The only VA I could see possibly changing would be Troy Baker, since it remains to be seen if he’ll still do non-union gigs ever since he’s hit it big in the industry. Though he does love playing Yuri Lowell and returned for the anime movie, so there’s still a good chance.

        • Guardian Byakko

You might be right, but ever since what happened with lloyd’s VA I have doubts (unnecessary probably).

  • Guardian Byakko

Hopefully there will be more cutscenes aside from the opening . Fan favorites 1(yuri) and 3 (asbel) face off, and maybe a few more facing off gets me pumped
