The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Dawn Story And Lead Characters Revealed

By Sato . June 26, 2014 . 4:48am

Falcom recently announced a new Legend of Heroes game for 2015, called The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Dawn, which will be an original RPG with a story and some sort of online connected features. Falcom’s official website updates us with some new details on the upcoming game.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Dawn takes place in the same continent of the Zemuria, like the other games in the series, with key areas such as the Crossbell State, Liberl Kingdom, and Remiferia as some of the main settings.

The game’s original story revolves around two key characters of Nacht Weiss and Chloe Barnett, and will also include many others from the Trails series make appearances.

The story starts out at the western part of the Zemurian continent,  at Crossbell State, where a young boy named Nacht Weiss dreams of becoming a Bracer. On the day of his long-awaited Bracer qualification exam, he meets a strange black-haired girl.

Her name is Chloe Barnett. She arrived from the Liberl Kingdom in order to acquire the qualification of becoming a Bracer.

As the two unexpectedly took their exam together, while thinking about the unfamiliar department name of “special duty support section” that was mentioned by Michel at the Crossbell Bracer Guild’s branch office, they had to examination area, called Geofront Division, located somewhere in the underground area of Crossbell.

And this marks the beginning of Nacht and Chloe’s grand adventure…

2014-06-26_011232 Nacht Weiss is a young man of unknown nationality, who does everything he can to avoid standing out, and believes in doing everything in an ordinarily manner.

He originally planned on becoming a Bracer and taking on little requests here and there, but unfortunately for him, he ends up being stuck as part of a duo with Chloe, who has an exact opposite personality of his own.

In addition to handling his Halberd and Orbal gun weapon, he seems to have other battle-related gadgets going on with other things like Orbal mines, and such.

2014-06-26_011259 Chloe Barnett is a young girl from Ruan of the Liberl Kingdom, who has a strong sense of justice and an honest personality. She’s had an interest in stories about knights since she was little, which she has then been influenced by, and occasionally speaks in the older mannerisms in such stories.

Due to her immense admiration towards the heroes (Bracers) who fixed Liberl, she dropped out of the Jenis Royal academy, and decided to become a Bracer, much against her parents’ will.

A platform for The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Dawn has yet to be announced.

Man, Falcom should hire Haccan to do the character designs for more games. Both the new Trails in the Sky art and these designs are much more expressive than the current Kiseki artist’s work (and Celceta’s artist isn’t even in the same ballpark as those two).

    • Pedro Furtado

I really dislike Celceta’s art… The 3D models are WAYYYY better than the art counterpart, which is pretty weird. I seriously believe they could get better art for FREE by asking a talented fan of the series.

EDIT: maybe it’s not the artist but the chosen images.

The image on the left actually has some defined shadows.

      • DyLaN

The 3D models with barely any expression looks better? OK.jpg

        • Pedro Furtado

It’s not like they zoom in to the models in the cutscenes, so you rarely see the faces anyway. I just like the sharp lightning used in the models, like this

It’s not surprising to see someone disagreeing though

  • reinmord

another male character with white hair and red eyes..(suddenly remember Crow and Rean dark mode)…is he a raiser or have some connection to those two??

  • These really are great character designs…

How do they keep pumping out so many of these Legend of Heroes games; it’s getting crazy

    • Mar Mar

      Joshua and Estelle =)

  • zzzSleeping

    Love the desings

  • Houten Lee

Can’t wait to see if there will be any interaction with previous casts. In Zero and Ao there are interaction with characters from Sky as they fill in the overall world plot and bring each other up to speed.

Time to learn japanese. Tired of this shit.

    • sakanaとkoeda

Good luck with that (not sarcasm).

      • Tatsuya1221

As someone who has studied the language, japanese isn’t as hard as people make it out to be, it’s just harder for people who speak english as their native language due to the sentence structure (the best example i can think of is what i heard from a person who was half japanese, they speak like yoda),

The text seems daunting at first, but it’s not extremely problematic once you get to know how it works, really the problem is memorization and constant use, because people even forget words in english if they aren’t used enough.

Chinese on the other hand deserves all of the problematic issues with it’s text style.

        • ishyg

Yeah. In Chinese, kanji are letters but in Japanese they are words. So there you go. Hmm not to mention, my boss (Chinese/Korean) said that there’s this modern character set vs original character set. In mainland, they use the modern while in HK and Taiwan they use the original ones. Tough language, eh?

My problem is that Filipino is structured similarly to English. That’s probably why I learned English without any difficulty while struggling with Japanese.

Speaking with them (Japanese) though, I figured you can actually fling out words without the proper sentence structure and they will still pick up the meaning. I guess one key is to speak speak and speak.

In games though, yeah reading the text is key. I should work on my katakana and basic kanji now. I remember some tip I’ve read before that katakana isn’t used that much, but being here I find that it isn’t the case, so I need to catch up on it.

          • Tatsuya1221

Yeah, it’s not that katagana isn’t used much, it’s just mostly used for non native japanese words usually, though sometimes it’s used for native words as well.

That said, hira and kata are not really that hard, in fact the 2 text styles share a few symbols themselves, heck i learned katagana in about 3 days.

Honestly, the hardest part of japanese is kanji, but it’s not that difficult once you get used to it, the symbols have a meaning, and when combined they usually have something to do with the combined symbols meaning, plus to play games you can usually learn just the basic to intermediate kanji and get by pretty good when it comes to most games, provided they tend to target teens and up, as such they do not generally know the more advanced kanji so the game makers have to take that into account.

          • ishyg

            3 days? Such dedication, wow.
I always see them but I just can’t remember some complicated ones like ネ and ヌ. But if I focus I can learn it in a few days as well. I don’t know, but I usually encounter more katakana here than usual. I wasn’t prepared for it.

Some of the kanji I can currently understand. I guess it all comes down to practice. Writing isn’t all that needed so I’ll practice more on just trying to figure out all the signboards I pass through.

About developers taking into account the target audience, it’s a good thing that Pokemon has this mode where it’s all kana and no kanji. That’s quite awesome. Some games even have furigana too, so it’s quite a thoughtful gesture.

    • ishyg

I’ve been saying the same shit for about 3 years now. And not just because of games, but because I live in Japan.

  • GamerLegend

Please be on vita, as well as more LOCALIZATION, the west needs more vita games.

  • Jan Daryll Palanca

    • Kornelious

      Haha, That looks wrong :P

      • Jan Daryll Palanca

it’s worse than I have feared..! after reading Chloe’s profile…now THAT made me miss tits!

        • Kornelious

          Ha! Indeed XD

    • Slickyslacker

I need a dose of tits suck, myself.

  • Kornelious

Well jeez not even gonna let Trails in the Flash 2 come out before you announce another game huh………Another one that will add another 5 years onto the west’s waiting period :(

Really like the designs though, and I dig that the main character uses a Halberd.

  • komiko12

O.O The male protag is not holding a sword…

    • But does he have AMNESIA, that’s the big question

      • komiko12

Nah, I don’t think he has amnesia, but he is more likely to be an orphan who lost his parents at a young age.

        • “Welcome to the world of video games…
You are now an orphan. Congratulations!”

    • Houten Lee

A Orbital Rifle with a axe attached to the end, interesting combination.

    • MrTyrant

Yeah like Lloyd from Zero/Ao who use tonfas.

      • AkuLord3

And Estelle who uses a Staff

        • MrTyrant

Well he said male protag being tomboy isn’t enough to consider her a male character D:

  • Pedro Furtado

“and occasionally speaks in the older mannerisms in such stories.” I read that as “this game will contains even more obscure language than usual”. Falcom games have very punishing Japanese x.x

  • DyLaN

Character design/art for both leads looks nice. Looks like the artist have improved his/her art style since TitS.

    Online RPG….. Something like PSO2?

  • C_Diamond

A main character with a halberd?! sold.

  • Rio Raze

ok, let’s hope this is will be in PSVita…
Because I only have handheld console :(

Btw, those protagonists are great… nice to see going back to sora no kiseki pattern…

  • Last Star

The platform is PC, it’s a webpage game outsourced to a Taiwanese company.

  • Alexander Aubert

She is somehow is my type

  • dahuuuundge

Look at the games that Userjoy had made. I fear Akatsuki no Kiseki is going to end up really, really bad.

  • Psyguin

Nacht Weiss is one freaking letter away from being “Night White” in German.

  • Sav

damn at this rate even if they do choose to localize more of the games it doesn’t seem xseed will ever catch up.

falcom is churning these out every year now it would appear.

not to mention they visually look alot better now too.

i guess this is the ps4 game they were said to have been working on?
