How Senran Kagura: Bon Appétit Will Be Sold In The West

By Spencer . June 30, 2014 . 12:17am

Senran Kagura: Bon Appétit was actually sold as two separate games in Japan. Senran Kagura: Bon Appétit – Pack A which came out on March 20 had Hanzo and Crimson Squad characters. About a month later, Pack B was released with the Gessen and Hebijo ninjas from Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus. Pack B is shown in the video above.

Users could buy either Senran Kagura: Bon Appétit pack for 2,315 yen or a set with both Pack A and Pack B for 3,889 yen if they purchased both packs *before* Pack B came out. Afterwards, both the Senran Kagura: Bon Appétit Pack A+B set cost 4,167 yen.

Xseed clarified how Senran Kagura: Bon Appétit will be sold in the West. Instead of Pack A and Pack B, Senran Kagura: Bon Appétit – Hanzo X Crimson Squad will be the main game, which is basically Pack A in Japan. The Gessen X Hebijo or Pack B will be sold as downloadable content and not a separate game.

"This was done in order to meet our shorter schedule with the development team, since releasing it as a second full game would take a lot longer, or at least more time we didn’t have to spend with the dev team’s tight schedule. So you will have to buy one half to get the other, but they are bundled in the same exact way Japan is, so it’s not much different than Japan’s. The only difference is, I believe, that you can’t download the Gessen x Hebijo pack independently," a representative from Xseed explained.

Yupo! Makes sense. Good decisions are always lovely to see =W=

  • http://linkapics.tumblr.com/ Linka

Nice to see them being forward about it. Take all the time you need, XSeed.

  • Manny Being Manny

I’d rather they do it like that, anyway. The two separate games thing was kinda confusing in Japan.

  • xAtKx

    My memory card is waiting.

  • John Smith

    I am okay with this

  • WhyWai

    I am also ready

  • Caribbean Brony

    Pretty solid.

Still waiting on a localization of Senran Kagura 2, XSEED!

    • nonscpo

Hold your horses lets get these 2 games first, we have to have something to look forward to next year =3

  • scdk

I think most people who are looking forward to these games probably fall in the category of “I don’t give a shit as long as I can get them.”

    • Death Metal

      That’s true, at least partially.

  • https://www.youtube.com/user/LetsPlayerRPG Claytonred9

Is this just a cooking game with hot babes? xD

    • Arcade Bumstead

      Yes

      • John Diamond

Erm, that’s why i watch Gary Rhodes

    • devilmaycry0917

actually it`s a rhythm game features hot goodies

  • Spider-Man

I’m so glad I snagged a job recently. My wallet will be ready.

    • Land of Green Pasture

Ikr, your photos doesn’t sell well these days

      • Spider-Man

I’ve had to take different kinds of “photos”.

        At night.

        • Land of Green Pasture

          count me in

  • NeptuniasBeard

Long shot it may be, but I hope this means we get the game as $30 title instead of the usual $40. But knowing me, I’ll get it either way…

    God I’m so lonely…

    • nonscpo

Agreed, hopefully Xseed prices the game right.

  • devilmaycry0917

i bet anyone who`s gonna buy this game will buy both sets at the same time lol

  • Suki

I can’t wait to actually play this! People pull me over all the time on the bus asking me what Project Diva is after watching me play it. I’ll probably get some strange looks being a girl playing this but eh. Rhythm game love!

    • otakumike

You’ll definitely get strange looks with all the clothes tearing off but meh! It’s a game, have fun. :D

    • nonscpo

Just remember to make a Youtube video of it, theres already a clip of a guy playing Monster Monpiece in public places; needless to say it was quite hilarious =3

      • darke

I finished Monster Monpiece on the bus/walking to work and back and at lunch at work without any odd looks; same with Conception. Honestly all you need to do is not to actually play the ‘rubbing’ scenes in public. :P

  • Bob Slim

Yeah much easier than the way japan did it cant wait to get it

  • Learii

what the different between Pack A and Pack B?

    • XiaomuArisu

      different characters

    • British_Otaku

Senran Kagura has 22 main playable characters between four schools up to this point on the Vita with both Shinovi Versus and this game.

The packs each have two schools and eleven characters as I understand it with Hanzo (the heroes of the first game) and Crimson Squad being in one pack and Hebijo (rivals of first game) and Gessen being in another pack. Every character has a unique song and the lead girls have voiced songs.

      • Learii

        oh ok thx

  • Michael Richardson

So much Senran Kagura in the West. I love you, X-Seed!

  • benhofb

I mean, this almost seems like XSEED is helping us westerners out. Instead of selling both halves of the game seperately, like in Japan, they are selling the Pack A, and Pack B is free DLC! That sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me… Granted that Pack A might be a little more expensive since B is free, but still! I can’t wait until we hear a date for this and Shinovi Versus!

    • SobriK

I, uh, don’t mean to rain on your parade here but there’s nothing about Pack B being free in the article. In fact… “The Gessen X Hebijo or Pack B will be sold as downloadable content and not a separate game.”

I suppose XSEED *could* sell it for free, but I think it’s going to cost some :)

      • benhofb

OH SNAP. Last time I read things when I am half asleep. I thought that it said the Pack B will be downloadable content offered for free. Ah. Thanks for clearing that up, I didn’t even notice!

        • SobriK

No problems – I had to double check m’self. Actually, I’m kind of happy about the decision because – as other people have said – it makes it a bit less confusing for consumers (do I buy Pack A or Pack B?) I imagine most people will want all of the characters anyway, so I don’t see the harm of offering one as the core game and the other as DLC.

  • lel

Got my japanese version long ago but wonder if the story is worth reading to justify buy it again on english,im talking about actual plot not dat plot.

    • Pedro Rosas

The little bits I could understand were funny so if you want a good laughter go ahead, Shinovi Versus story is worth it though just in case you are wondering

    • xXDGFXx

      Is it fun?

      • lel

If you like rhytm games it will not dissapoint, just prepare to crush your buttons playing on hard mode, my only complain is how you can lose a battle if you get your ass kicked on the last round (every song got 3) even when you did amazing on the first two. its not a letal flaw but yeah can be annoying and it gets harder if youre looking at the plot instead of the notes, eh.

        • xXDGFXx

Ok, now this game has my interest.

  • http://epiclyamazing.wordpress.com/ AzureNova

Welp, they’ve already got my sale lol

  • Godspoken

Don’t really care, I don’t know why you wouldn’t get both anyway.

  • Alexander Marquis Starkey

Totally unrelated but, another all girls popular visual novel sequel got announced. Hoping the Siliconera will catch some news. Koihime Eiyuutan, the next game in the Koihime Musou series was announced, and I’m trying to get the word out. It adds more characters, A LOT of characters and Romance of the Three Kingdoms characters are being added. Hurry up Siliconera cause they got a site, new characters and everything.

    http://baseson.nexton-net.jp/koihime-eiyuutan/character/index.html

    • Zak Ledward

Wait, like a whole new visual novel SEQUEL, and not a fan disk, right?

Or is this a PS3 fighter game

      • Alexander Marquis Starkey

New Visual Novel….should have probably included a link to the Japanese site…check the original post.

        • Zak Ledward

Oh dear God this game, THIS GAME

SONKEN HAS SINGLE-HANDEDLY BECOME THE HOTTEST CHARACTER THROUGH THE COURSE OF A SINGLE GAME, WTF!?

Will now main only Sonken and hope this becomes her update if another fighter comes out (prays)

  • Loli Summoner

    By the gods…

  • Kornelious

This is actually good thinking! It would feel weired buying the game twice and having to go into two different games for the seperate characters. They’ve got my purchase :D (Though to be honest, they already did)

XSeed sure does know how to localize!……When is comes to Senran kagura and Akiba’s Trip at least…..

  • Red Veron

    It’s easy clickbait.

  • Anontastic

…What about the one’s who have legitimate problems with the game, but dare to even bring up the fanservice, given it’s a very core element of the game and series? Can we listen to them?

  • Duo Maxwell

You shouldn’t. You don’t see people rate bad game for being “Too violent”. Or someone rate dungeon crawler game being bad because it contain all necessary dungeon crawler elements.

If it’s a core element of the series, you rate it based on the category it belongs to.

  • LordHyper

Well, yes. If there’s legitimate problems, they should be listened to. While the game is kinda shameless fanservice though, it shouldn’t be the only aspect to focus on.

(I refer here to Official Nintendo Magazine’s ramblings on Senran Kagura Burst.)

  • Harvey Tejada Loto

name something in japan that is not weird

  • Kurizu208

While that is true, all the positive response is from people who plan on getting all the characters.

  • Death Metal

People are so used to taking the shaft in the West when it comes to niche Japanese games that they’re accepting anything these days. I wouldn’t personally say it’s a bad move the way Xseed is going to do it, but truth is you’re totally right. As someone who’s planning to get all characters though, it works for me. But the ideal world to me would be to release everything in one big, unique package, like they did with Burst in the West.

  • Zoozbuh

I would say it’s “good going” that both games are actually being localised and released, whatever the format. Also good that this series in general is continuing to be released in English (I can’t see the same thing happening a few years ago. It’s pretty amazing how much XSEED takes a chance on niche games, to be honest.)

  • ReMeDyIII

In Japan, all games are overpriced, so I’d say this model is still fair to us.

  • Shippoyasha

Perhaps it’s because making each part standalone would take too much time. I’d rather get them ASAP personally. And not sure how many western fans are similar with Gessen to want that faction standalone.

  • Kumiko Akimoto

I’m pretty sure you have to remember that while in japan it was a good idea because they already had all the games, in america we’ve only gotten one game. No one knows those characters in pack b unless they import so the chance of them only wanting just pack b is low here.
So yes it was a smart decision to think along those lines. They thought of the overall fanbase not just a few who could read japanese or had money to import.
How you think that was lazy is really silly.
