Dungeon Fighter Online Is Getting A New English Localization

By Eugene . July 1, 2014 . 4:02pm

Developers Neople are busy getting Dungeon Fighter Online ready for the West again, and it seems they’re re-translating parts of the game.

The surprising stats from their Facebook post? For a 2D side-scrolling brawler, there’s a staggering 7.5 million words within the game already. While some are duplicates, that’s quite a chunk of text! More importantly, it appears that Neople are going through the entire game checking things out for proper English.

Good English is… well, usually not highest on the list of priorities for translated online games such as Dungeon Fighter Online; so the admission is a good sign that the devs are looking to do everything possible to ensure the game goes better this time around.

Dungeon Fighter Online will be coming back to the West on PC.

  • Well, when you get someone that actually cares about the game…

    • Shippoyasha

It’s a solid game. I would recommend it.

      • I have. I’m just saying this towards the people re-localizing it.

      • Trepie

Do we know if Neople is changing anything else about their release of the game? I played it before but it was a long time ago, and I think I remember it being kind of grindy? I might just be misremembering, though. I don’t remember all that much.

        • When the alpha test came out, it was basically Nexon’s latest update of DFO before it was closed (and was never updated beyond that for months). Since then, we did not receive any details implying the game is going to be re-done, but given that this is all happening from Neople’s main office, it was highly doubtful that the re-release will be exactly the same, this news of re-localization being proof of that.

          • Trepie

            Alright, thanks for the info!

  • Joshua Lewis

    ha you misspelled people :D

    • Rafael Budzinski

      …NeoPle is Dungeon Fighter Online’s developer. ;D

      • Joshua Lewis

Lies :3 or maybe not shh! person im on a roll maybe a rock

  • riceisnice

I thought Nexon’s translation of the game was solid. Even though they’re money-grubbing scam artists, they do good translation work.

    • Rose Spinoza

Yeah, I can’t remember any problems in Nexon’s english translation. The only change they made was Shylock’s name, and that sorta made sense since it’s kinda a racial slur. (and the character itself is kiiiinda….)

That said, I can’t remember much of DFO’s story beyond- “Kill Lotus.” “Okay. kill Lotus again.” “OH SNAP. LOTUS IS BACK. Kill it?” ;)

      • riceisnice

Maybe that’s what made it so easy in the first place.

      • Anesia Hunter

Actually, there were some places during the conversations where Nexon NA did in fact screw up. It wasn’t too bad it just was awkward. But, the fact that they’re going to these lengths means a lot, since it means they want to bring the game back better than ever.

    • Ms_Fortune

The problem isn’t that the the translation is bad, its that they don’t have access to it, the DNF re-launch was the DFO alpha client, all the bugs, glitches and hacks still worked on it. So they need to make their own.

  • Draparde

Hopefully when they mean a “fresher version” they mean more updated.

i wont complain if its not updated though. so long as they come eventually.
can’t wait to get back into this game.

  • Rabbit

Wait… Are you telling me there’s dialogue in that game!?

I’m just kidding, but I mean I never cared to read anything in MMOs. It’s always just “Here’s your quest, now go do it” filler text for me. The conversations just aren’t that amusing, for the sole exception of Artix Entertainment games that is.

    • Vash bane

i have a habit of reading backstory , and lore of games so even games like this I tend to stop and read…im still curious of Kazan and that one other guy(don’t remember much…time to go read some lores lol) I guess all these rpg’s messed me up lol

  • RunningWild1984

Everybody should give Dungeon Fighter a look, it’s a really solid game with some good gameplay mechanics, and TONS of customization and variety. It’s got the best PvP of any online game I ever played.

  • Yan Zhao

Im glad Neople is reworking the script. The Nexon names for some classes/enemies/skills were dumb as hell. Wrecking Ball as a class name? Really? A military veteran is a “Viper” but not a “General”?
