We’ve already met the Verse Maidens of Omega Quintet, but just like any other idol, they wouldn’t have gotten there without the support from their managers, friends, and fans. The official website introduces us to some of the supporting characters.

Takuto:

2014-07-10_025700

Takuto is the protagonist of Omega Quintet. He’s a childhood friend of Otoha’s, and grew up in the same institute. While he usually tries avoiding trouble, he often ends up getting pulled into it because of Otoha.

He’s a positive guy, who’ll be taking on the role of the manager and bodyguard of Otoha, who recently became a Verse Maiden.

Momoka:

2014-07-10_030234

Momoka is a veteran Verse Maiden, whose been part of the scene for quite a while now. She might look a little childish, but she acts her age once she’s on stage. She also seems like the perfect idol in front of the media, but she’s actually pretty crude and has quite the potty-mouth.

Ayumi:

2014-07-10_030614

Ayumi is Takuto’s superior, and has been Momoka’s manager for several years. In addition to taking care of manager business, she handles songs, clothing, and even the Verse Maidens’ live coverage.

Shiori:

2014-07-10_030859

Shiori is Kyouka’s coach, and she was part of the previous generation of Verse Maidens alongside Momoka. She’s usually an easy-going and proper adult, but she doesn’t seem to get along too well with Momoka, and shows a different side of herself when she’s around.

Godou:

2014-07-10_031517

Godou is a man with a strong sense of justice, and is the leader of the neighborhood watch. He usually checks out dangerous areas and helps commoners make a run for it when Beeps show up.

Tomekichi:

2014-07-10_031753

Tomekichi is a huge fan of the Verse Maidens, and is the leader of one of the supporting fan groups. When it comes to Verse Maidens, he’s louder than anyone, and is actually a charismatic guy that takes the lead… well, at least amongst the fans.

You can also check out voice samples from all the characters we’ve been introduced to thus far, here.

In before the usual “why is the protagonist of an magical girl idol RPG a guy?” question.

    • Landale

As annoying as that shit gets, “in before” posts are just as bad.

  • Armageddon

    Another harem -_-.

Can’t the “weird friend” have one?

    • Landale

      What makes you say that?

      • Armageddon

        One guy and four girls.
        Make that five.
I mean’t MC and potential prey.

        • Landale

Funny, I see three and eight so far.

        • Landale

And now that you’ve edited that, so your criteria is specifically playable characters. NPCs don’t get counted in at all in any way? Pretty clear bias on what you’re expecting this to be, despite evidence to the contrary.

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/MikuRockShooterMk2 Miku Rock Shooter

totally off topic, but who is the girl in your Avatar? Looks like something NISish but i can’t be sure. She looks cool and its starting to bother me that i don’t know XD

          • Landale

            Graceful Chou-Chou, Mugen Souls.

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/MikuRockShooterMk2 Miku Rock Shooter

            oh i see! ありがとうございます

          • Armageddon

            Always will be bias.

          • Landale

And yet NPC/PC relationships have been a thing with their games in the past. Why would you rule the NPCs out? It’s one thing to be biased, it’s another to reject details that don’t confirm to the bias.

          • Armageddon

            Harem all the same.

    • wererat42

Yeah, just because there’s a guy who looks like every light novel harem protagonist ever surrounded by five girls doesn’t mean it’s a harem. It only makes it very likely.

      • Armageddon

        Yeah, very likely.

    • Sentsuizan_93

Hey now, Male MC + 5 chicks =/= harem, without any knowledge of what will happen in the story.

      • SeptimusHeap

Blame the shipping fandom and fanfic writers for that. They will go delusional just to have some romance from even the smallest subtext.

      • https://www.youtube.com/user/MikuRockShooterMk2 Miku Rock Shooter

i give you a virtual cookie and a well deserved high five from another who shares your logic! :)

      • Wtv

Years ago a guy and a lot of girls would surely be harem. Today not really. There are a lot of examples where there is one guy and many girls and they all don’t really love him. Like Chuunibyou, for example. Or Saki, if he doesn’t need to be MC. I have a problem here is with him being the protagonist, but aside from that…

People really need to stop with the harem thing. I understand in fanservice games, ok. But then they start calling Hyrule Warriors of harem-game. Like…seriously?

        • darke

Clearly Nintendo is a 5th Column; cunningly and subtly subverting current preferences in both Japan and the western world with moe and otaku tastes.

    • Yagami Mao

but what’s bad about harem? :s

      • Armageddon

When its generic. Hopefully this one isn’t.

    • SeptimusHeap

Why can’t we have a great game with great girls doing great things without some useless guys getting in the way? We’ll never have another game like Bullet Girls, Arcana Hearts, Neptunia, and Touhou. C’mon Japan, is it that too hard to do?

      • Armageddon

        Agreed.

      • Bob Slim

I agree they had to put a guy in it, I thought it was gonna be a all girl game into he came. My hype for the game died down cuz of him

      • Fallen_Persona

You really are going about it the wrong way, though I can understand where you’re coming from. Also, Girls und Panzer? Though I’m not sure if the game is any good…

      • Wrathful

At least Japan has more games that offer the female character as main character. It’s just that they can’t release the games out as regularly as Western developer can because they lack the budgets. Even if they release it on the stateside, I hardly ever see them make the profit other than from the dedicated niche gamers.

        • http://twitter.com/puchixseda puchinri

Even though I want to agree, those female MCs 80% of the time aren’t created for female audiences (to almost any degree in plenty of cases), and that’s just as dubious to me.

      • Ni ~Algidus~

        >Why can’t we have a great game with great girls doing great things without some useless guys getting in the way? We’ll never have another game like Bullet Girls
        >Bullet Girls
        Stop pls.
Bullet Girls is just another military moefication train rider and there’s nothing great about it.

  • http://hanzoadam.tumblr.com/ Hanzoadam

I’ve pre-ordered this from amiami I’m looking forward to see what its like.

    • Ecchitori-san

      You’ve been pre-ordering a lot. You sure are rich. I jealous. :(

      • http://hanzoadam.tumblr.com/ Hanzoadam

Sadly not rich, I’m just good at budgeting my Money (being an accountant =P)

I manage to pay the bills and fuel my Hobbies like gaming/manga/gunpla and Anime models =P Just =P

        • Ecchitori-san

          I cried a little.

          • http://hanzoadam.tumblr.com/ Hanzoadam

            =P

  • Yagami Mao

hope it get localized. so that would be one of the reasons to buy ps4 :)

  • https://www.youtube.com/user/MikuRockShooterMk2 Miku Rock Shooter

i honestly don’t think it will go the way people think it will. If there is any romance, it will probably either be between 1 established girl or go the route of Record of Agarest War and have you choose one of them through actions or something. I have yet to play a “harem” game from compile heart (meaning that he either A:gets all of them at the end or B: Never chooses one and they all still love him)

Anyways, cant wait for it. Need to save for a PS4 for this and Choujigen Game Neptune Victory II

    • Christopher C

The most harem you get would be in Idol PP after getting the 4 true endings and then replaying it for the bonus scene.

  • SeptimusHeap

    >Another generic male MC.
I know what I should do next. What a shame. This game had the potential to be great with five idol girls until it had to bring a bland and boring male MC. Wasted potential there, Compile Hearts.

    • https://www.youtube.com/user/MikuRockShooterMk2 Miku Rock Shooter

oh wow, you played it already? Man how was it?!?! Hows the battle system? The story interesting? Any references? -_-

      • SeptimusHeap

Clearly, you love female-dominant games that has male MCs in them. Why are you even playing Neptunia?

        • Landale

We’ve had this talk before. All you ever do is complain about male characters being in games, and mock people who have no problem with it. I think you’re done here.

        • https://www.youtube.com/user/MikuRockShooterMk2 Miku Rock Shooter

I like all kinds of games because I am rather open-minded. What i am trying to point out is that it is far too early to make any assumptions. For all we know he dies, turns evil, is homosexual, w/e. Plot twists exists, and no one should just jump to conclusions because of past mistakes made by others.

If it turns out that it is as bland and generic as everyone is guessing, then that is when everyone is free to bash the game full blast. Hell I’ll even join you. But right now? No way. Play first (or read on it when its out), then judge.

        • darke

Fun games are fun; even with stereotypes and generic characters archetypes. If it’s fun to play, that’s all that matters.

    • NeptuniasBeard

I don’t like it either, but no need to just instantly dismiss the game lol

    • MrTyrant

      Neptunia a shit too.

  • I-e-on

Why isn’t the male protagonist a magical girl idol? I demand an explanation Compile Heart.
edit: i have no idea how picture uploading works on disqus so sorry if i messed something up oops

    • I-e-on

      Here we go

      • https://www.youtube.com/user/MikuRockShooterMk2 Miku Rock Shooter

While i don’t necessarily agree with your stance, i have to say this is pretty funny XD GJ i guess you really didn’t like him to go this far lol

        Also surprisingly kinda fits….

        • I-e-on

Nah I’m just joking around. Like the protag, but I wish he would at least be playable in battle.

          • Landale

It actually looks like he might be, assuming the screenshot is indicative of something along the lines of Neptunia’s Lily system.
            http://www.compileheart.com/omega_quintet/img/gallery/gall21.jpg

          • I-e-on

            :O I hope so

          • Christopher C

Inb4 “I can see the harem ending now!” lol.

          • Kumiko Akimoto

I wish he had a idol uniform too honestly, I mena I wouldn’t mind cross dressing but I mean a male idol suit or something.

    • http://twitter.com/puchixseda puchinri

That’s my thing too! At least give him a Uta-Pri style outfit and cute transformation scene!

    • darke

You need to petition them to make game about this novel series: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ore,_Twintail_ni_Narimasu. :P

  • ivanchu77

whelp, the typical generic and plain main character with no personality so people can self-insert is in this game, dissapointed.

    • Landale

This comment is getting old, and it’s lack of any real base is maddening. I would honestly be surprised if that was the case, given that, if one could find nothing else positive to say about the company, they’re usually quite good with character presentation.

      • MrTyrant

Bland protagonist for a bland group of characters. I still not see why would anyone should get upset over this.

        • Shippoyasha

This is pure prejudice though. Do we know anything about them other than basic descriptors? No. So why jump the gun like this?

I just feel people want any excuse to say ‘bland protagonist!’ here.

          • MrTyrant

That was precisely my point. People complain about the bland mc when the other don’t necesary shine in the decription either. I know the presentantion of him is overused but so are the others, if narrative is very bad then I guess all characters were bland like many other uncool jrpgs. Being this only female or male characters is just a way to appealing an specific fanbase but still doesn’t demostrate anything else.

          • Shippoyasha

I have faith in Compile Heart as far as characterizations go. Besides, it’s just a matter of there being a protagonist system. It wouldn’t make sense to make it an ensemble cast and clutter it up. And look at this article. It’s already full of male characters.

    • MrTyrant

Self inserting is a cool thing you know but I like them when they are better dudes with a past and motivation.

    • Wrathful

Man, you haven’t played Katawa Shoujo, have you? Incidentally another game people kept bitching about content until they played it.

    • Kumiko Akimoto

I don’t mind that normal guy main character routine honestly.Though it’s a bit overplayed I don’t think it’s anything to get disappointed about.

      • NeptuniasBeard

Well if he turns out as generic as he looks (which is quite possible since he likely won’t participate in battle) Then that means that the game is going to be constantly taking time to show the opinions of a guy who doesn’t really matter at all in the grand scheme of things. It would be better if he were a side character, imo, so that he’d only be around when it mattered (like emotional support, or a romantic subplot)

        • darke

He participates in battle. I believe it was even in the first batch of screenshots they gave out that showed him fighting.

    • zazza345

Sorry to disappoint you, but Takuto has a personality, as far as what is known about him.

    • Dashaun Rutledge

Why does he look exactly like the main character of Danganronpa 2?

  • Anueu

Damn, this looks as generic light novel as a game can come. Almost impressed. Guess the fanbase needs that self insert though.

  • tomato_ketchup

Harem potential on IDOL theme games? is he to young to be a manager, why just not ayumi?

  • Ecchitori-san

Let’s see.. Blue girl is mine! :D

Anyways, art looks like Danganronpa art without the horror-like make-up

    • Christopher C

      The blue girl is Kyouka!

    • Black Heaven

It’s always the long black haired girl of the group that gets the most love. :p

Meh, she’s my pick too if I really have to choose one.

      • Ecchitori-san

It’s the typical waifu material. Although, Laura Bodewig is my main waifu and she doesn’t have the long black hair..

  • MrTyrant

lol it seems that contrary to Ar Tonelico, the singers are the ones at the front and the dude is the one giving support.

  • http://epiclyamazing.wordpress.com/ AzureNova

That’s quite a few supporting characters we have there. Seems like the game will be even more interesting. Who knows what plot devices these new characters will bring.

  • CirnoTheStrongest

If Takuto were a shipper, then I’d be fine with him being the MC. But…I know CH. I know the audience they’re doing this for. And I can be pretty certain what’s bound to happen. Still, there is hope. Even if it’s smaller than a microcosm

  • Black Heaven

I guess the mere presence of a male MC changes the interest of people with this game. *_*
This may be intended for teenage male demographic so the guy’s presence is quite staple.

That said, would you guys rather have a faceless male manager in first person point of view than this? :)

    • CirnoTheStrongest

I’d rather have no male manager guy >.>

    • NeptuniasBeard

It may just be a kneejerk reaction, but I just don’t see why they bothered making the MC a generic looking guy that won’t even fight. If he was a side character, fine, but as a main character, his genericness knows NO bounds.

      Admittedly, I’m being quite presumptuous.

      • Wtv

He’ll fight though. It’s in early scans.

        • NeptuniasBeard

So he will… I guess that does make him an iota more useful. Still don’t really see the point of his existence
          -_-

          • Wtv

Would like better if he didn’t though. But I think it’s because I’m playing Persona 4 right now and kinda annoyed about how everyone talks about the MC like he’s a god or something…

That’s why I hate self insert characters.

          • NeptuniasBeard

I didn’t really see that in P4 to be honest. They talked him up a bit because of his exceptional fighting ability and his super friendliness, but that’s about it.

In any case, at least Narukami was the protagonist in a game that was clearly about him, and he didn’t look like a super generic anime Character.

          • darke

Yeah, but they talked up the guy’s friendliness and fighting skills in Conception II as well, and that guy was literally God’s Gift. :P

Honestly all lead-guy-MCs look generic unless they give him dog ears or something. I’m sure there’s more annoying things to encounter in a JRPG then the standard stereotypes. :P

    • Wtv

I would rather have a faceless male manager, actually.

That way there would be not chance that he would became a Gary Stu kind of character.

  • SaiyanJedi_Trunks

Up to this point, all I knew was there was this magical quintet and this darkness they were going to fight.

Nice to see that they have added a plethora of characters to increase my interest. However, I want it to focus on the girls.

  • NeptuniasBeard

Oh COME ON! Really? They added the generic guy protagonist in a game like this? Just… why? What point does he serve when the chick has magical powers? Did they learn nothing from Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha

    • SaiyanJedi_Trunks

Are you going to play this if you get the chance?

      • NeptuniasBeard

…Yeah… most likely. Hopefully the guy is voiced by someone awesome, like Bosch. I need someone awesome to balance out all the generic energies he radiates. Though he’ll probably would be voiced by Papenbrook. No offense to him, but he can do generic guys pretty well.

  • Kornelious

So there is a male main character…..It doesn’t look like he willbe doing any fighting himself (Though it would be awesome) which makes me wonder what role exactly he will play and if this game will have more Idol porducer feature than originally thought…

But it’s all cool because this game is all about the ladies! ;D

    • SerChief

He’s the purse holder. While all the girls are performing/ fighting, he just stands there and holds their purses. I can tell because of his spaced-out expression. My boyfriends has the same one when I have him hold mine.

    • Wtv

      He’ll fight. See early screenshots.

And that’s where it could get annoying.

      • Kornelious

Huh, your right. Perhaps the game takes place between 2 perspectives, Takuto and his allies, and then the Quintet. I doubt they are gonna fit him into the perfectly assembled 5-Girl party :)

It would be interesting to say the least….I personally don’t mind the male character (Always had a soft-spot for the generic MC’s) but it’s all about how CH chooses to use him….

      • zazza345

Takuto can only fight as support role.

        • Wtv

Thought about that later, actually. We see him fightning, but not in the field. Is it confirmed?

Would be cool if every girl can have their own manager as support.

          • zazza345

Yes, it is. Last week Famitsu detailed the battle system, and Takuto needs to be paired to one of the girls to be used, he’s also needed for some special combination skills called Harmonics Chain.

  • Randgriz

My faveourite colour is green so i guess ill go with the green girl????
    (im bad at this)

  • zazza345

Just to point things up, while it’s true that the game defines the job of the main characters as 詠巫女 with 詠 being “verse”, it has also a different reading, as per the Famitsu articles: “うたみこ”, hence the correct definition should be “Song Maiden”. It’s not the first time CH does things like that.

  • Göran Isacson

Bland protag is bland, but I wonder- could be fun if like, he and the pink-jacketed dude work as a kind of booster team that empower the idol girls through cheering on them. It could be like a minigame to power up their attacks, you select a really powerfull spell and you can perform a somewhat “Ouendan”-esque segment to boost it’s strength. Kind of like what was in Ar Tonelico 2, no? That could be neat.

  • SupaPhly

I don’t understand the butthurt over the protagonist
do they really like their subtle yuri?

    • MrTyrant

      Yeah they love that.

    • MOON CENA

Quite frankly, I’d rather have this game to be yuri than having a boring male protagonist, as in someone who’s not even the main focus of this game. I hope you’re not someone who likes to bash yuri.

  • Eric Harris

all I care, is will the super attacks look good in HD. Pretty much why I play these games.

    • Demeanor

Right on! :D I’m hoping for a decent story and funny/interesting characters too

      • Eric Harris

compile hearts special effects for attacks have always been a little low budget. However early screenshots for their first PS4 battle screens look promising. It’s got more color in it, and less cloudiness (fading) to the colors as their PS3 games do.

  • xXDGFXx

Who is the artist? I wanna say Kishida Mel, but at the same time it feels off.

    • 4shiki

Fukahire, who previously did Atelier Elkrone and Monster Monpiece.

  • Godspoken

Why is the main character a guy? First Moero Chronicle and now this. CH needs to stop with the male protag + harem and just keep it all girls like before.

    • MOON CENA

I used to like male protag + harem too. Nowadays, it has become generic and fanservicey and it’s rare to find a wonderful game out of it. Honestly, I’d prefer yuri over it. At least there’s still Neptunia and maybe KanColle.

      • God

You could have just said: “I used to be a harem lover like you, but then i took a fanservice to the knee”.

    • zazza345

All the Galapagos games are aimed at a different audience than the usual CH crowd, that’s the reason Fang is the main character in Fairy Fencer F (which isn’t a harem, by the way) for example.

  • God

Why CH, WHY?! Why have you turned your back on the PS3 and it’s users!

  • Dashaun Rutledge

Aw lame, a harem. No buy I hate harems. Why are they doing this? Even i Hyperdimension V they openly stated that i they threw a guy in there it would lose the fanbase. Well Harems suck so a skip for me.
