Nintendo 3DS Gets Another Free-to-Play Game, And This Time It’s A Denpa Men RPG

While The Denpa Men 3: Rise of Digitoll recently released in the west on the Nintendo eShop, Japan is already getting another game Denpa Men’s RPG Free!

In Denpa Men’s RPG Free! you use the Nintendo 3DS’ AR functions and adventure with your party of Denpa Men, like the previous games. This time around, though, it’s a free-to-play title with items that can be purchased with cash.

As shown in the above images, there are dungeons to explore, towns to visit and fields that look reminiscent of the earlier Dragon Quest games.

The key to success in this game is to put together a proper party using Denpa Men and their various specialties, as you explore all kinds of areas and expand your party of Denpa Men.

Additionally, developer Genius Sonority plan on having different features that will connect you with other players, and services such as special limited stages that will let you get more experience, limited-time items at shops, and more. Here’s a look at a little more in the game’s trailer:

I’ve never played a Denpa Men game outside of a demo so if this makes its way over to the west I’ll give it a go. Plus it’s F2P so there’s nothing to lose :)

  • Nintendo’s pushing f2p on the 3DS so much, I guess they’re seeing success there. It’s kind of crazy to me – and unfortunate, because man this is gonna fail at retail – that they’re pledging Splatoon to be a normal, retail $50 game on Wii U.

That one seems BUILT for f2p, if managed correctly. But, like most Nintendo games that aren’t Mario, it’s going to languish at retail as a disc. I mean, think of any top selling Nintendo games on their platforms. You never see quirky, interesting stuff like this. You see New Mario Bros., Mario Kart, Smash, etc. Even Donkey Kong, Kid Icarus and other C-tier mascots putter out. And Splatoon? That’s like a… Sin & Punishment 2 or Wonderful 101 or something. It’s gonna be another bomb, cherished by few. When Nintendo could expose it to TONS more if they just asked the 3DS guys how they’re successfully designing games for f2p

      Its not team foretress 2.

      Its call of duty

Latest IPs like Xenoblade, Nintendogs, Brain Age, Wii Sports, Wii Fitness, etc. sold poorly and weren’t hugely popular? Last time I checked, they sold like candies on Halloween.

Why are you suddenly bringing Splatoon into this? Plus, the game has lots of positive buzz, so I doubt that it’ll just fail.

“Nintendo 3DS Gets Another Free Game”…*clicks*
    …”in Japan” *3DS sobs*

    • All of the Denpa Men games have been localized so far, so I don’t think you have anything to worry about.

Oh whoa, I totally read that as “Japan AND the US” the first time through. Now I’m sad :(

f2p with cash items…poor idea after some nice entries.

Never played any of these games before but it sure reminds me of DQ.

It sounds nice to try it out, but I think if I find the Denpa Men to be worth putting money into, I’ll get one of the 1st 3 games instead of diving into the F2P route. I’ve played a few fun f2p games (Groove Coaster, Puzzles and Dragons), but in a choice between spending money on a free version and buying a full version, I almost always go with the latter.

    • PreyMantis

Well, you can always just try the game with the demo.

I…had forgotten that there was a demo for Denpa Men 3. I’ll have to look into that when I get the chance, thanks!

Denpa Men F2P for 3DS? Kinda weird choice. If it was released for mobile phone games it would make more sense. Unless F2P console games make good money in Japan, I don’t know.
