Mario Kart Arcade GP DX Shows Teamwork Is A Tank Transformation

By Spencer . July 14, 2014 . 12:18am

Bandai Namco Games develops Mario Kart arcade games in Japan and their next game has a Mario Kart: Double Dash twist. Players can team in co-op mode and transform into a tank. When transformed, one player drives the tank and the other shoots green shells at opponents.

Mario Kart Arcade GP DX has a different roster too. Pac-Man from other Mario Kart arcade games returns and Don-chan from the Taiko: Drum Master series goes kart racing for the first time. Player can unlock different costumes for the game like Fire Mario, Ice Luigi, Blue Toad, Red Yoshi, and Don-chan wearing a strawberry.

I’ve played as Don-chan and done co-op mode in both Japanese and North American versions of the arcade game. I’m not sure about the costumes but I don’t think any of this is new. This trailer might have been created to advertise the new american arcade machines

    • Caleb Kinkaid

Yeah I definitely played as Don-chan when I played this at a Dave and Busters in Chicago last April.

Sure, this game has Pacman and the ability to let you fuse your Karts into a super-Kart… but does it have death stare-Luigi?

Also memes aside, how does the tank-feature work? Would it be feasible to have it on home console in a future Kart game?

    • The Watcher

Not going to happen, Only 1 mario kart game per console

      • Göran Isacson

Weeell yes. But that isn’t to say there couldn’t be a future console with a Mario Kart game with this feature in it, no?

  • Kevin

Hazzah the fun has been doubled!

  • Spirit Macardi

Wish they’d bring back the Tamagotchi character, since it at least had a “WTF” factor to it that made it interesting.

It also seems really weird though how there’s all these Taiko references being put in games Namco is part of, even though they clearly have no desire to bring the series overseas.

Can someone explain How “Player can unlock different costumes for the game like Fire Mario, Ice Luigi, Blue Toad, Red Yoshi, and Don-chan wearing a strawberry.” works in a arcade game.

I’ve been to arcade a handful of times in my life and never once have I see something(when playing a game) the option to save my game or progress or something. I have play a mario kart arcade found one way back in the day and I don’t remember such thing,If there a way could someone kindly explain. thanks

TONS of games in arcades now, (mostly Japan) use some kind of card-reader or NFC technology to read/write/save data. Games that come to mind are Inital D, Tekken 5/6 Wangan Midnight, or any of Konami’s Bemani series of music games.

      • BigBearMonte

Aye thank you very much for explain that I was rather curious. So is it like in japan you go to arcade and you use a memory card while your there? If so thats pretty cool, I mean Its a interesting idea to use unlocks in arcade games to keep ya playing. I wish we had more arcade out west so I can try said feature out(without buying a plane ticket to japan).
