Disney’s Frozen Is Freezing MapleStory

By Eugene . July 19, 2014 . 2:01pm

Disney and Nexon have teamed up to bring Disney’s Frozen movie into Korea’s MapleStory. The collaboration event will run until August 10th.

While we’re totally past the season already, the update to MapleStory will add items to the game that enable players to dress themselves up as the characters of Elsa or Kristoff. There’s also the chance to get a 90 day Sven mount or, possibly the best thing ever, an item that turns the background music wherever you are into Disney’s Let It Go song.

“an item that turns the background music wherever you are into Disney’s Let It Go song.”

I want this for my life.

  • Raymond

    WHEN WILL THE MADNESS END?!~

    WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • SlickRoach

Disney and Nexon collab? Wow, seeing how big Disney is I didn’t expect this.

  • Hinataharem

This movie has made Disney so much money

  • Naruto

When will Disney let this movie go?

    • triablos

When they become stupid enough to not make money off a really popular film

      • mockturtle

In fairness they do need to know when enough is enough (although that’s not happened just yet, imo). Take Lilo & Stitch for example. That movie was a beautiful, heartwarming film, but because Stitch became so popular, they drove it into the ground with everything that came after (TV series, two sequels, a goddamn anime, etc.). It actually tainted my view of the original. I pray they don’t do the same thing to Frozen.

        • 하세요

The TV series was awesome if you ask me. I was excited every morning as a kid to see what new experiment would be shown in the next episode, because they were talked about but never shown in the initial movie.

          • mockturtle

That’s true. The problem is that unlike the movie, if you watch the TV series without the rosy glasses of childhood, it doesn’t hold up well.

          • Steven Hunt

            “Rosy glasses of childhood”?
I was 18 when it came out and it still kicked ass.

          • mockturtle

In that case, my entire argument has been invalidated. Herp de derp, time to go home.

          • Steven Hunt
          • mockturtle

LMAO I was actually admitting defeat, but rereading what I wrote I guess it could be construed as bitchy.

        • James Reilly

When it comes to business “enough” is never enough if the current market deems x subject a marketable subject for future profits.

    • Dystopiq

Why would they? It’s making them a boatload of cash. If they’re smart they will ride this train until the wheels fall off.

      • Naruto

It’s bearable at first, but after a while it get’s annoying.

        • Dystopiq

What you think doesn’t matter and never will to Disney. There are raving fans who will buy this stuff.

      • ShadowDivz

        And then ride it downhill.

  • shit

*yaaaawn* tired of this frozen thing and that corny let it go song

    • O_O Master Clueless

Do you wanna build a snowman :P

      • mockturtle

        Doesn’t have to be a snowman…

      • Sakurazaki

DO YOU WANNA COME AND PLAYYYY :D

  • Smooosh

    I can’t stand this anymore

and I haven’t even seen the movie!

    • ShadowDivz

Maybe that’s all it takes. All you have to do is see the movie and then it stops.

Just like the Endless Eight in Haruhi.

    • http://www.thejaystack.com/ Jon Stachewicz

      Maybe like

Actually see the movie? It’s a ton of fun. Watch it on its own terms too and don’t think about the hype, a lot of people worked really hard to make themovie what it is and factoring in how you feel about the marketing or fans isn’t really fair to them

      • Smooosh

That’s easier said than done. Props to you if you can ignore all the buzz, but for me (and probably a lot of other people) “watching it on its own terms” has become pretty much impossible since Frozen is more or less EVERYWHERE.

I’m not saying it’s a bad movie – on the contrary, it has to be good if it is that popular.
But if you get in contact with something no matter where you go, it’s bound to get annoying after a while. Doesn’t help that the soundtrack is played up and down and that you can’t NOT be spoiled about everything that happens in the movie, which ruins every drive to watch it yourself.

        • riceisnice

          Just let it go…

LET IT GOOO! LET IT GOOOO!!

          • Smooosh

            LALALALALA I CANT HEAR YOU!

        • anarchy_panty

          Do you like Disney musicals?

          If yes:
          watch it.

          If no:
          keep ignoring it.

  • 하세요

Well, “Let It Go” did top Korean song charts for quite some time. This doesn’t surprise me one bit.

  • BizarreJelly

Oh boy more Frozen stuff! Zzzzzzzzzz

  • NightzeroAX

Can someone explain why Frozen is everywhere? Seriously I don’t know and no I didn’t watch the movie.

    • 3PointDecoupage

      Disney likes money.

    • Shippoyasha

I guess the appeal is that it turns the whole princess film upside its head with a bad guy prince, queen who isn’t evil and the story being about sisters. I kind of though the movie was merely okay. I think they forced a lot of its themes and the movie didn’t flow very well but a lot of people took to it I suppose. Good old Disney marketing did its trick as well.

I’m just so underwhelmed by the movie proper. The How to Train Your Dragon movies are a whole dimension better and I wish those movies would get better representation in games. But popular stuff gets the tieins I guess.

    • James Reilly

Frozen is one of most successful Disney animated films in recent years. Japan especially loved every aspect of the film since even the BR sales surpassed the EVA sales. There is even a limited edition Frozen PS4 too. The music was especially well received too. To the point where it can annoy people.

    • Göran Isacson

To add to what Shippoyasha said, I have a personal somewhat cynical theory that part of the appeal is that Frozen is somewhat similar to another story that got wildly popular lately… namely Kill La Kill.

Both stories contain a lot of stuff- themes, ideas, possibilities of interpretation… but only on a somewhat shallow level. They’re stories which seem more interested in including a lot of stuff, rather than actually exploring any of that stuff in detail. As such you can read almost any theme you want into the stories, and derive some sort of appeal from them. All things to everyone, if you will,

But if you then take a closer look, the stories are both kinda inconsistent and not quite as thought out as they could be. But if they were, they wouldn’t really be as popular as they are. Sometimes, it’s just more profitable to let your story have many possible if shallow interpretations and snare a wide audience, rather than a few, very well thought-out interpretations that affect a select few.

Also, both movies contain an invincible golem of horror and terror that exists to troll the audience. I’m looking at you, Olaf and Nui. Don’t think I don’t know you’re not cut from the same cloth.

    • ShadowDivz

Because a blonde chick has (unexplained)ice powers and one girl dies trying to save her sister.

It’s supposedly a HUGE twist on classic disney, “princess marries handsome prince” formula.

Except alot of things were kinda wtf. Like Elsa having ice powers. Trolls knowing how to erase memories. 2 princesses leaving their kingdom in the hands of COMPLETE STRANGERS. Elsa not only manipulating ice, but also cloth and life(creating snow=/= new dress, nor does it equal LIVING snow. Olaf isn’t alive when they are kids, but he is when they are older?). Two random VISITORS/embasadors can command a kingdom’s guards to kill their queen?

I mean, it’s a good movie(a bit too much singing for my taste), THIS good? No.
      Mobile phone game good? Yes.

You know what should get all this attention? How to train your dragon. THAT has character growth. Hell, someone losses a leg. And People.Die.ONSCREEN

For the first time in forever…

I’m actually sick of these songs.

…Plus I’ve never seen the movie. Just heard the songs.

  • John Smith

Frozen just wants to be Lion King

    • Black Heaven

“For the first time in forever,
      Disney let us Siiing.
For the first time in forever,
It’s as good as Lion Kiiing.”

  • Aimmi

    Korea really likes Frozen.

  • fyi1191

After reading all comments. So, Frozen 2 confirmed?

  • RagingTiger44

I’ve never seen this movie. I’m curious to see what all the hype is about.

  • Samuel

Eh,I don’t get the item that change the music. I mean, you can just let it play in the background in some other program.

  • Adrian Duran

  • Rayhan PromisedGallery

  • ShadowDivz

Seriously, the movie wasn’t THAT good.
I’m not being a hater, hell i thought the movie was pretty good.

But not THIS good. Not “greatest disney movie of all time” good.
And yes, some people have said that.

    • Jeremy Noble

Going by the sales figures, i disagree. Going by my pick i Agree. Lion king was the best movie. (Even if it was a shameless rip off of kimba the white lion.)

    • Attribule

You don’t realize that just because something is popular doesn’t mean it’s good or bad – it means it has appeal. You can have appeal without being “a masterpiece”. Most anime, for example, is popular based on appeal and not necessarily “quality”.

  • Just Tim

It’s safe to conclude Disney is using MapleStory as testing grounds to gauge guaranteed financial success for “Frozen in Kingdom Hearts 3″.

  • Armageddon

    Another frozen…Let it go.
On another note: wasn’t Frozen just some knock-off of some old anime?

  • InsertOffensiveUsernameHere

Damnit. I wanted to fight her.

Well that doesn’t surprise me, that movie did so well in South Korea. Also for anyone that didn’t know: Hyorin of SISTAR sang the Korean version of Let it go (the Demi Lovato version):
