Vote For Gurumin On Steam Greenlight & Get Falcom’s Drilling Adventure Game For Free

By Spencer . July 20, 2014 . 11:48pm

imageYears before Xseed became the Western source for Falcom’s games, Mastiff localized Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure for North America. The PSP game puts players in control of Parin who uses a giant drill to save Monster Village.

Gurumin, like most of Falcom’s early PSP games, was originally a PC title. Mastiff is looking to bring the PC version with their English localization to Steam. It’s up on Greenlight looking for support. Fans that vote yes and join the Gurumin Group will get a copy of Gurumin for free.

Thanks for the tip Nick!

Holy crap at Mastiff still being around.

It was an adorable, small curiosity on the PSP with a really cute English dubbing job. Can’t wait to play it again. Maybe a sequel for Gurumin can someday happen if this game takes off in Steam? I hope that’s one of their reasonings for making it free for Greenlighters.

It sort of has a couple spiritual sequels — Zwei II, a PC exclusive, may officially be a sequel to another Falcom action RPG, Zwei, but it looks and plays a LOT like Gurumin. And Nayuta no Kiseki, officially a Kiseki/Trails spin-off game for the PSP in Japan, really has nothing to do with the Trails series and feels more like Zwei III… or Gurumin 2. It seriously could’ve been rebranded with Gurumin characters and no one would’ve questioned it.

A proper Gurumin 2 would be amazing, though.

  • Anewme…Again

It look fun, so i would have voted yes anyway, but it’s nice to get for free, if i really like it, i will probably buy a few copies to give as gift to support them.

  • landlock

Huh? i’m actually playing the PSP version right now. It’s a fun little game that cute and calming to play. Worth your time IMO.

  • THIS IS WHY I PRE-ORDERED A PSTV FROM AMAZON! This was the first digital game I ever bought on the PSN for my PSP! The PSP that’s an awful piece of hardware, that I haven’t touched in years! I want to play this again – it’s fantastically fun! It’s on Greenlight!?!!? OH SWEET GAWD! I NEED TO HELP THIS GET GREENLIT!

    • wyrdwad

Awww. You should give the PSP another chance. It’s quite possibly my favorite system of all time — especially the 2000+ models, where you can output them to TV directly. It’s like a mini-console + portable gaming system in one!

      • I like my Vita, too, but partly just because of the great PSP library, due in no small part to the fantastic efforts of companies like XSEED! *moment of joy contemplating XSEED’s great work on various Falcom titles*

    • I share your sentiments, and love your icon. x’D

I would have been willing to pay for that game. You are the saviour of game industry for bringing the obscure game to the attention and giving it a second chance.

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

I already played Gurumin PC but this will be some nice exposure to the game for more sales. Might help spark Falcom’s interest in making another Gurumin.

    • And maybe releasing more games in the U.S. that we haven’t played, I hope.

  • SlickRoach

Ah, Gurumin. One of the first PSP games I played. Really takes me back to how simple and fun that game was.

  • Spirit Macardi

With the existing translation and dub?! Yes please :D

The dub for the game was really good. They actually got Tara Strong for it somehow!

    • It was an impressive dub, wasn’t it? Which is funny, because I think it was Mastiff that did some kind of shaky work for La Pucelle.

      • It was.

        • Heh, indeed then~. I wonder what brought the jump in quality.

          • I think that was their first attempt. Their first time.

    • wyrdwad

It is an excellent dub overall, though I still think Parin’s personality… changed a bit, compared to her Japanese counterpart. Japanese Parin speaks almost in a monotone, yet somehow still manages to convey excitement through really subtle inflections — like she’s an apathetic teenager with a secret desire to be a cutesy pop hero. ;)

American Parin comes across more as just… a brat. A lovable scamp of a brat, but a brat nonetheless — which is a far cry from her original character.

They’re both good interpretations of the character, but personally, I prefer the Japanese.

  • Played the original. It was cute, but way too short.

  • VWinds

This game was fantastic on PSP. Totally supporting the PC version for maximum gifting.

  • Eilanzer

Tks a lot siliconera dudes o/

  • Great game. I loved the hell out of it on PSP and would like to re-purchase for Vita. I doubt I’ll play it on PC, but I will definitely support it, and I hope it sells well. Fantastic Falcom game.

  • psycho_bandaid

so awesome. I will definitely vote when I get home and buy copies to gift when it comes out.

  • Monterossa

I voted for it already but where’s the Gurumin group?

  • DudeJericho

Didn’t know about this game, just bought the J version off ebay for like 30 quid, can’t wait to play it ^^

    • Bigabu Beaze

Quid is a funny name for currency.

      • DudeJericho

Haha, slang for pounds, but yeah now that you mention it.

        • Bigabu Beaze

Do retailer’s use that over there? Like you buy a soda and they say “That will be 2 quid please!”

          • DudeJericho

Honestly I’ve never heard a retailer or cashier use that for customers, it’s a really informal word so it wouldn’t be suitable.

          • Bigabu Beaze

Thanks for all the info man!

          • DudeJericho

            No problem ^^

  • Gurumin does not get enough love!
    And our PSP is crap so I barely got very far, and so I want a chance to play it again. ;u;

  • fenix7

Got stuck on the final boss!

  • Kevin

noise to my ears! 10 out of 10!This quote will be taken out of context but I loved some parts of this game!

  • Jimmy Bump

I hope they get enough votes alright lets gather around and pray everyone.

  • Göran Isacson

Huh. Welp, I’m not one to turn down free stuff! Thanks a bunch for the shout-out, Siliconera!

  • Armane

I’m glad we’re getting it free. I would feel bad paying for such a barebones localisation effort.

  • Universe

Voted. Let’s hope it comes modded to support widescreen resolutions.

  • Izzeltrioum

Already voted and hoping they’ll eventually localize both Zwei games as well.
