Monster Taming RPG Band of Monsters Is Free For A Limited Time

By Eugene . July 23, 2014 . 3:30pm

A while ago, we noted that Kemco came out with a new RPG in Band of Monsters. It usually costs $7.99, but is currently free as part of a celebration for Machine Knight hitting one million downloads.

The game’s unique twist to draw players in is with its music taming aspect. Monster tamers are awash in the world of Band of Monsters. You, as Zara, can tame them using the power of song by “tuning” yourself to them. You’ll then be able to use said monsters during fights.

The Pokemon/Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker aspect comes in with collecting the sheer variety of some 170 different enemies, and then cross-breeding them Shin Megami Tensei style into entirely new creatures.

Band of Monsters also has an online component, where players can take their party online to fight against other players. Being free would certainly help you find some opponents.

Band of Monsters is available now on iOS and Android. Grab it while it’s free!

    music taming aspect?

lol You play musical instruments that sooth the monsters’ hearts and tame them to join your side.

      • CheeseCake

Oh I didn’t read the rest of that paragraph clearly. My bad.

        • AndyError

I played a little bit so far and it’s actually not that unique since there is no music attached to the music taming. There is a short jingle that is played, but it doesn’t live up to the potential of the concept of musical taming. Any sort of music is left to your imagination.

nabbed it. For free, no harm in trying! I love the idea of being a music tamer. :P

For some reason this makes me think of a game where the premise is “tame monster girls and make them into idols to (as always) save the world.”
    Get to work Japan.

    • AndyError

Moero Chronicle for the PS Vita is pretty close to that description. No idols though.

      • Christopher C

        but there’s no idols.

  • Zero_Destiny

I’d recommend it. The monster aspect is simplistic and doesn’t control as well as I would like; it’s no SMT or Dragon Quest Mons that’s for sure, but it’s still charming and for a phone game, is a good diversion. And for free now to boot.

The story is typical Kemco fare, but the cast this time around is pretty enjoyable, and the art is nice too.

Kemco’s new motto must be “we make all our games using RPG Maker”

    • darke

Umm… RPG Maker only runs on windows and only exports to windows last time I checked; and this is Android and iOS.

      • Yes, but you can port it to other platforms.

  • Free, great, but offers IAP. Which kind?

  • Just Tim

I hate when tournament battles turns out to be: enemy on Heal mode, my monster with not enough damage power… it takes forever to end.

  • And here I try to order it, I find out it’s not available :c argh. it’s still in the store and its still free too :c stupid misleading… iphone…

  • zollo

Looks nice except the backgrounds not that great. They should have worked that background artist harder. It’s not cool to see obvious repeated texture.
