A New Dragon Quest Monsters Game Is In Production Says Square Enix [Update]

By Sato . August 4, 2014 . 2:57am

This weekend, fans gathered for the Dragon Quest Summer Festival that was held at the AiiA Theater at Tokyo. After hours of Dragon Quest-themed festivities, Square Enix had one last surprise to announce for the attending fans during the event. (Thanks, Famitsu)

The Dragon Quest Summer Festival had all kinds of Dragon Quest items with various goods and even food items from Luida’s Cafe. They finished the event with a big Dragon Quest Monsters 2 tournament called the Great Masters’ GP.

At the end of the tournament, Taichi Inuzuka, producer of the Dragon Quest Monsters 2 remake and numerous other spin-off games of the series, announced that a new game is in production.

While there weren’t any details about the game or a title, Inuzuka said, “We’re working on a new Dragon Quest Monsters game, and its competitiveness will be as fun as always.”

Details on the new Dragon Quest Monsters game, including what platform it’ll be on, will be revealed in the near future.

[Update] Game Watch Impress also reported on the event, where they have an extra quote from Inuzuka who added, “Up until now, we’ve continued working on remakes, but this time it will be a completely new title. Please look forward to it.”

another one that we will never see in the west :(

    • Namuro

      Not with that attitude, friend.

Just go and show your support/demand however you can to them. Better than doing the waiting game.

Besides, we don’t even know what this new game will be. It could be another money-grabbin’, smartphone game. Which if that’s the case, I doubt you’d want it, right?

      • iamtehultimatepwnage .

alot of people including me showed support of the remakes including dq 7 and they dont listen to us, so i dont really think having another attitude changes anything if they dont think its profitable…
i would not care if its a mobile game that is actually good and not just moneygrabbing

        • Namuro

Well then, it seems you DO understand their reasons for doing things.

Well, there’s still the option of importing, which would require you to spend some more, and rely on the faqs on the net. If you REALLY want to play DQ7 and…uh…whatever is coming out, that is.

  • triablos

Hopefully its not super light 2

    • James Robert Thompson

I actually quite liked super light, like many F2P games the drop rates are attrocious, and I far prefer the real games for that reason, but the core gameplay was pretty good.

      • triablos

I never liked it since the day it stopped working for me. I assume its something to do with licencing or not being in japan

  • Yet another game the Japanese can rub in our faces like little kids. To them I say “I want this in English and DQ7 remake in English and DQM remake in English and Terry Wonderland 3D in English and…” Well, you get the idea…

  • Roger

Caravan Heart remake with party talk and absurd amount of dialogue lines for every monster in the game, I call it.

It’s a game related to DQVII we are talking about here. Or…not, maybe just a browser game or something similar to Monster Battle Road…

  • TalesOfBS

    Incoming mobile game.

    • -Misaki-

I think they already confirmed it’s being developed for a home console, which home console is the question.

      • James Robert Thompson

Dragon Quest XI is for home console, the new Monsters could be for anything, but given that there’s already Monster Superlight making them huge quantities of money for mobile I’m expecting handheld.

  • Kenny Loh

Please… if you want making mobile version, making this game to Vita too… like you guys did to Chaos rings…

  • Namuro

Then it turns out to be a Kinect game!

    • darke

Mobile, F2P, MMO, with collectable card-game mechanics.

  • D. Collins

I think back to the only reason I was interested in Dragon Quest Monsters Joker was because the guy on the game case looked like Trunks from Dragon Ball lol.

    • Change his hair to black and he reminds me of Uub. Seriously, I love Toriyama and his art work, but most of his characters look so much alike. -_-

      • He shouldn’t remind you of Uub. He clearly has the Toriyama “rival” face that Trunks and Vegeta have. Uub has the “hero” face that Goku and his sons all have.

  • AndyMAX

Who cares about Dragon Quest anymore?, fuck Dragon Quest. *Inverse psychology*.

  • LonelyGamer

Dragon Quest XI for IOS, with in-game puchases

    • James Robert Thompson

      It’s confirmed for Home Console

  • Princess_Eevee9

If it’s for anything not the 3DS wtf you guys.

  • -Misaki-

Is the pic above in the article from the game or from previous DQ game?

    • indices

It’s from DQ Monsters: Terry’s Wonderland, a Japan-only remake of the first DQM

      • -Misaki-

So the pic is from a released game and the pic above isn’t from the new DQM Square Enix is teasing?

Pardon I am not familiar with this series.

        • British_Otaku

Yes, it is from a released game on the 3DS.
Basically, Dragon Quest Monsters was a spinoff on the GBC made shortly after Pokemon Red to rip them o- I mean cash i-… You get the point.

Terry’s Wonderland is a remake of that with a 3D world to explore and the Japanese 3DS has also gotten a remake of DQM2 which is also pretty darn old.

        • Princess_Eevee9

Could be that they were just announcing it with no prior footage or gameplay screens to showcase. Kinda lazy of them since they had all this time but at least it’s been announced.

  • Attribule

I really hope it’s for 3DS. It wouldn’t make sense on anything else at this point… but then again Japanese companies usually don’t make sense.

    • Namuro

They don’t make sense to YOU, that is.

      • Princess_Eevee9

Well the original two were on the Gameboy Color and the remakes on the 3DS. And correct me I maybe wrong but both releases shared phenomenal sales, reception, and ratings. Changing that up would be stupid and just plain weird.

      • Attribule

No, a lot of them really don’t make sense even to the Japanese gamers.

        • Namuro

I wasn’t really trying to compare between the Western gamers and the Japanese gamers, but rather between the companies and the consumers.

I don’t claim to know what game companies think regard this kind of issue, but I’m sure they must have brainstormed and thought through things A LOT, before they came to a conclusion that MADE SENSE to them. You (and me) wouldn’t really understand unless you’re working with them.

I’ve also seen quite a lot of odd decisions being made at work in these past years. Decision that would seem weird to consumers, but made business-sense to the company.

The thing is, don’t just lump them all in as weird, especially when you don’t know the TRUE reasons behind things. It’s kinda disrespectful as well.

A New Dragon Quest Monsters Game Is Set to Remain Unlocalized Says Square Enix

  • KiTA

For all those complaining about the possibility of mobile: they already did a mobile DQM – DQM Super Light. And it was actually really great, having actual DQ combat. Kinda hope they localize it someday…

  • To quote Scorpion from Mortal Kombat, “GET OVER HERE!”

  • Kaetsu

Well you know what Squeenix? I don’t even like Dragon Quest all that much anyway! *weeps into slime pillow*

    • ishyg

Seriously though, I don’t even like Dragon Quest all that much, and even I wanted to see this game be released in the west.

  • FTM

Ah cool. More games the west won’t get!

  • Not to sound like an asshole but, the game probably will be mobile this time. I know that the DQM games sell well but considering how much money Square makes on mobile games in Japan now, I wouldn’t be surprised.

    • James Robert Thompson

We’ll get a competative DQM game in direct competition to Superlight? I think not.

      • It didn’t dawn on me how many other DQM or Pokemon clones maybe on mobile. I don’t play man of them myself but I guess you are right.

  • Hell yeah, thats awesome. Too bad it won’t most likely come to the west because SE are a bunch of dumbasses.

    • AuraGuyChris

Hopefully, Bravely Default changed their minds…

      • Heck, DQIX should have been enough to change their minds. It broke one million units in America, more than their crazy expectations. Seriously what are they thinking?

        • AndyMAX

*one million units in the WEST.

        • William Cole

THANK YOU! Why are they billowing over this dumb fairy game when DQ has much more potential! Show us a real, well made, FULLY 3D, rpg! Quit brainwashing us over here with low quality 3DS RPGS when we could have the best there is on 3DS. I mean come on!

  • yomachaser

    Hope this lands on android.

  • awat

Square give us DQVII and the rest of the unlocalized DQ titles and We will be Bro’s . x’D

  • William Cole

Who cares? We aren’t getting it. Missed DQVII, the Monsters Remakes, DQX and now this. But keep those weird FF spinoffs coming, yep because those are just fuuuuuuuuuuuuun!
