By Spencer . August 6, 2014 . 1:35am

Ganbarion and Bandai Namco Games have a One Piece fighting game in the works for Nintendo 3DS. One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X follows in the footsteps of the PlayStation 2 fighting game series, One Piece: Grand Battle, and the Gigant Battle fighting games for Nintendo DS.

One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X has over 85 characters including Luffy, Trafalgar Law, Nami, Chopper, and Donquixote Doflamingo.

One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X is slated for release in Winter 2014 in Japan.

I guess we should start crossing our fingers for a localization. The Ganbarion made One Piece games are some of my favorite anime licensed games, especially the Gigant Battle series, which I imported back when Nintendo still made region-free systems.

I’m hoping that we get the game in the west no later than Q2 2015…..or even sooner considering this is a fighting game

The odds that this won’t get localised are pretty low, given that every other One Piece game on the 3DS post 2012 got a retail release in all regions and have been doing better.

As an action game, the translation work should be pretty minimal with only a ton of profiles (at least for the 85 characters) and minor banter to worry about.

      • Keiji Johnson

That is possibly true. And hey, why stop there? They could even release the first two Gigant Battle games on the 3DS eShop to promote this one’s release. Or even better, they could take the Bayonetta 2 route and have them as a bonus of sorts and include it with the game, imported over from the European releases.

        • Princess_Eevee9

If we let Nintendo know that we’d buy the game if they prompt Bandai Namco to do this just maybe.

        • British_Otaku

It would be a great move and even fill Bamco’s pockets but if it is a licensed or niche game on an old system when the current platform has a few years behind it. I don’t have my hopes up.

Capcom and Bandai Namco haven’t done it before with Ultimate Butoden or Ace Attorney Investigations 2. Inazuma Eleven made it, but already had a set of games coming out in Europe and a 3DS remake they could sample to make eShop releases for America.

  • British_Otaku

And that is how I’m going to pronounce the game’s name in the future.

I can see that the stupidly cinematic PS2 era specials made famous in Grand Battle, Budokai (Tenkaichi) and Ultimate Ninja are back. I don’t mind them on paper though they don’t lend themselves well to a fast paced fighting or action game unless they are designed very well or leave the game’s pace alone and with four players at once but we’ll see.

Good to see them shout out Grand Battle and Gigant Battle, anyway.

One Piece , supa grandu batal, aaaachhoooo

  • Yue D Andre

    Huehehehe, huehehehe, HUEHEHEHEHEHE….

  • Namuro

Those special attacks look so delicious! Can’t wait to play this!

Also, Law made it on the logo, hooray! I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY want him to join Luffy… But I doubt that’ll happen. Wonder who’s the next crew member is…

  • Princess_Eevee9

For some reason I have high hopes we shall see this game localized. :D Also CHIBI ZORO AND SANJI. <3

  • jugss

Will this play like Super Smash Bros.?

    • British_Otaku

Not really if it takes notes from Gigant Battle.
Being knocked off a stage didn’t kill you no matter what though water did more damage to devil fruit users and none to fishmen. Damage doesn’t affect the distance that you get sent.

In a broad sense, it has elements like items to use, 4 players at once and platform fighter so I guess it counts if that is enough for you.

I’m not into One Piece but this looks fun. I’ve played enough cross-over games featuring OP to at least know the main crew, so I may look into this.

    • This is basically how I am with One Piece too. And the game does look pretty fun! I’m actually hoping this gets announced for, at least, a download only release out West.

  • Jesse Torres

I want this game localized right now.

  • Chardo

that trafalgar law on the title, he keeps stealing the show more and more and I kinda like it.

  • Sol badass

Now why cant vita get games like this? Shxt why cant playstation get a freakin one piece fighting game? All playstation gets are the stupid musou type games.

  • GuyAlpha

Kind of looks like Jump Super Stars. Might be cool.

  • Lifestreamer

Seems fun, please, let it be more than 40 playable at least.

Tontatta kingdom as a stage is a first for OP games.

    • British_Otaku

The last game was released when the manga/anime was still in Punk Hazard, it is a pleasant surprise that they added even light content and nods to Dressrosa with 2 new characters and some good tracks.

I’ll be surprised when this game had Leo or some notable contestants (Bellamy, Bartolomeo, Chinjao, Cavendish and Rebecca) from the tournament playable.

Hoping that the 3DS models pay off in more ways that it being easier for them to make costumes to sell us. I don’t know what I’ll do if this actually had 85 playable characters.

      • Lifestreamer

If you look closely in the trailer, the Tontata tribe seems like a stage hazard/support at 0:57 (middle row-right), Bart appeared in earlier pics, but Chinjao (and Elizabello) is a background character, you can see him at 0:32, or maybe he is a stage hazard, who knows.

British, if Ganbarion put 85 playable characters they’re forgiven for life, and are free to rip me off with whatever costume they want too…….I’m saying this cause I’m 100% sure it will not happen.

  • MSJ

so pretty much a cross between Grand and Gigant Battle . . .

  • WhyWai

I dun understand why most 3DS games need to go with chibi/deformed character model…
