Persona 4 Arena Ultimax Shows Off Its Cute Little Online Lobby

Arc System Works had an online lobby for BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma on PlayStation 3, but Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is also getting one for its online multiplayer mode, and it’s full of adorable chibi-style Persona characters serving as avatars.

The online lobby features real-time communication, where you start out by picking different worlds as lobbies. Once you’re in, you can use various icons or preset phrases to talk to other players. You can also type out messages or send private chats to other players.

You can also register “P-Cards” with other players to add them to your list of favorite players. The card can be edited to show when you play the most, your last time logging in, a simple message, along with various records.

Players can choose from a wide range of avatar characters, all with a bunch of color varieties. You can even see the two new characters Zen and Rei from Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth.

And of course, this is where you’ll be able to challenge players you find in the lobby to online fights. By trading P-Cards after good match-ups, it’ll be a good way to make friends with new rivals to continue honing your skills.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is slated for release on September 30, 2014 in North America for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

    That… is awesome!

  • FivePointedTheStar

Wow. That is a HUGE improvement over P4A’s lobby. I mean like… SUPER HUGE.

  • KingGunblader

I feel like Ultimax is the game the team wanted to make when they first got the license. So many amazing new features.

  • http://s1.zetaboards.com/Espada_of_Alexandria/index/ konpon568

YES! Wait… is this going to allow for “Social Links” with your friends on PSN/XBL?

  • LordHyper

I like that you can use Koromaru separately and that you can also use the P3 characters as they appear in their original game.

  • Samuel

Cool, you can even use Persona 3 Protagonist.

  • MrTyrant

Similar to the one in BBCP. Love how it looks like. They should add Persona 1&2 avatars too.

  • Kamakuma

Nice a lobby I’ll still never use :’3 As I’m not insane about getting wrecked online so badly I’ll cry t..t But it does look nice though. XD

  • samsneeze

I remember Dead or Alive 4 having something like this and how spectacular it was for a game so close to launch to already be doing so much online.

  • Sky

Sweet, this is somehow actually better than one in BB CP. I’m looking forward to playing Ultimax even more. But using Minato as a avatar would be nice.

    • Afternoon Intergalactic

I think I saw Minato as an avatar if I’m not mistaken.

      • Guest

Yeah, I also saw (Name is a Persona 3 spoiler, I think).

    • Sanagi Isanomi

well.. in the clip, he’s still nameless
and I’m trying to imaging a room full of his avatar……

      • Sky

I can just see it now… so many P3 MCs… lol

  • Afternoon Intergalactic

Really hype for this, the P Cards seem like an excellent idea. I netplayed quite a bit in vanilla P4A so this will certainly be welcome. Just one request, make the lobby theme Blues in the Velvet Room again! That tune is just too classy.

Since it evokes classic JRPGs to me, I’m actually disappointed they didn’t make (or, rather, the actual Persona team at Atlus didn’t contribute) a fully 3D lobby that resembled Persona 4 Golden or something. It would’ve been a good opportunity to bridge the Persona fighting with the Persona JRPG lineage. This is nice, but it could’ve been even cooler, y’know?

All I’m saying is that It would be rad if you could interact with other players in a lobby that resembled this:

Dead or Alive 4 had a fully 3D lobby. I’m surprised we don’t see more fighting games bother with that anymore, come to think of it.

    • SakuStar Light

that lobby was epic. Me my friends use to use that before party chat came out it was actually really fun. DOA 4 made me wanna rank up for more goodies ranking up on doa5 seems more like a chore than an actual want now.

    • The Watcher

You are asking for way too much. Just saying, let’s take it one step at a time.

    • Zeik56

DoA4 was also a fully 3D game, so adding them to a 3D lobby is not a huge leap. What you’re asking for is to basically add an entirely separate game engine to accommodate a lobby system. As neat as that hypothetically might be, there’s no way it would ever happen.

  • AnimeRemix

    Hi, Minato.

    • http://shadious.tumblr.com/ Vince

Well now… Why is he known as “???”

      • Herok♞

His name keeps changing and Atlus never had to give him an official name unlike with Yu

    • 하세요

Others that aren’t playable are listed, too. Not sure why he stands out since he has a model from Persona Q just like everyone else.

      • FivePointedTheStar

Oh? Like… Chidori, Jin, and… uh, Revolver Jesus?

  • Byron Kerrison II

    Sept. 30…

    I’m holdin’ on.

  • Satoshi Ookami

    Atlus…
    You…
    are…
    BRILLIANT!

    I take Minato.

  • MinakoArisato

    AWESOME!
Now I can use an avatar of the fem… Oh, well, maybe not, okay!
But stillt, thats very nice, I love it!
I love Lobbies to run around, I am so hyped just now!

  • Kalis Konig

Should have added a nice little adventure mode in this style for the hell of it lol

  • EvE

so is the story in these game kanon?

    • Zeik56

      No, but they are canon.

  • Kenshin Raijin

Well I personally love it. Why change what works? I hope arksys keeps this style

  • Vesperion

What did you expect? The game is from the creators of BB.

It’s just the online lobby. You can just stick to player and ranked matches and not even have to use it.

  • Zeik56

Good news then, this isn’t CP.
