Etrian Odyssey Untold II : The Knight of Fafnir Has Double The Dubbing

Atlus are going to keep the Etrian Odyssey remake series rolling with Etrian Odyssey Untold II: The Knight of Fafnir. Producer and director Shigeo Komori shared some words about the game in the latest issue of Famitsu magazine.

Famitsu starts out the interview by asking how Etrian Odyssey Untold II’s development came to be.

“The previous game, Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl, was a title that was a new trial for the series,” starts Komori. “There was a part of us that felt uncertain whether the fans would accept the game, but after hearing many of you say ‘it was fun!’ it really made me happy.”

“Again, we know that there are fans waiting for the next main-numbered title after IV, but after hearing the grateful voices asking us to continue the Etrian Odyssey Untold series, we decided to make the second volume.”

Next, Famitsu asks if there are any changes from the previous game, The Millennium Girl.

“Our thought was to make an Etrian Odyssey game that focuses on the characters and story that many people can enjoy, and that development concept principle has not changed,” responds Komori. “Also, the subtitle of the game, ‘The Knight of Fafnir’ is about the protagonist.”

He continues, “Last time it was the subtitle of ‘The Millennium Girl,’ which revolved around the heroine’s story. However, this time it will be about the player’s role as the protagonist, and how his friends overcome obstacles in the fantasy RPG you’ll get to enjoy.”

The “Fafnir” is actually the name of the protagonist’s power that allows him to transform. While Komori couldn’t share much on the game’s story, he explains that it will completely transform his appearance while giving him a big boost in stats along with a variety of different skills he can use.

Using this transformation ability can easily change the tides in battle, but it’ll also have its limits, so you’ll need to think wisely about when and where you use it.

Meanwhile, the heroine Arianna is of the “Princess” class. According to Komori, the game’s character designer Yuji Himukai put quite the effort into her design. Himukai included roughly 20 different expressions for all the other characters, but Arianna will have over 50 different expressions in the game.

Similar to Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Maiden, there will also be animated scenes and voice acting in The Knight of Fafnir, however, Komori reveals that there’s about twice the volume of voice-acting, along  with some new still-frame event styles as well.

Additionally, the game will support up to eight different save slots.

Etrian Odyssey Untold II: The Knight of Fafnir is slated for release sometime this winter in Japan for Nintendo 3DS.
