Koei Tecmo Have Long-Term Updates Planned For Hyrule Warriors

By Sato . August 14, 2014 . 4:20am

hyrulewarriors_16

Hyrule Warriors released today in Japan, and to commemorate the game’s release, the official Twitter shared a message regarding future plans for the game, in addition to mentioning some fixes for bugs.

The tweet in question reads: “New information to commemorate the release. Hyrule Warriors is a “festive Zelda title” that was made with much effort. In order to have you folks enjoy it for longer, we’re currently planning long-term updates and a large-scale mode expansion. We’ve received a few bug reports, so we’ll be working on that as well.”

“For these reasons, the development staff will be working in the midst of Obon. Keep it a secret from everyone!”

Obon is a Japanese holiday that begins this Friday and lasts throughout the weekend. It sounds as though there will be little time for the Hyrule Warriors team to rest, though.

Hyrule Warriors will be released on September 19 in Europe and September 26 in North America for Wii U.

      *SPOILERS?*

There aren’t any characters we don’t know about already.

      • DemonShadowX

Ah ok, I didn’t really look into since I’m at work, but just got around to it. Shame they didn’t add more characters, but I’ll probably still get this game….. when I get around to getting a Wii U.

    • FivePointedTheStar

The full character roster was spoiled by players the same day it was released in Japan. Not that it really matters because any extra characters would be pulled from someplace in the Zelda franchise, anyway.

    • NeptuniasBeard

The closest we get to a new character is the
      SPOILERS?

Great Fairy herself. Though she is technically a weapon for Link, she does prety much all the fighting

  • SaiyanJedi_Trunks

    You’re working through Obon! I won’t tell anyone :3

This just gives me more incentive to buy this game. Who knows what surprises they will come out with next.

    • NeptuniasBeard

Did you see Link’s final weapon? about as surprising as it is hilarious.

  • Heisst

This is KT we’re talking about so money is probably involved.

    • HarakiriKami

      Yes, their money. Lol.

KT wanted to make this game. They approach Aonuma about it, hell I think they funded this game themselves lol

  • Yan Zhao

Im happy with this news, more content is always welcomed. Their prompt bug fixes are also something other companies should take note of.

  • XypherCode

    Good to hear

  • Aaron K Stone

Perhaps more characters from outside the OoT/TP/SS eras of Zelda? Online? More stages? I’m game for all the above.

  • Dianatos

Do updates mean releasing the game a few more times, including a HWXL?

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    How about……….rupee armor

  • large scale mode expansion…? i can deal with that.

      More Waifus! XD

      • And more evil hubbies~!

        • miju

          Nah. More girls. Like Medli.

          • I think we have a pretty clear set up here actually. We have Zelda’s harem as the good guys 9all ladies except two dudes), and then all the bad guys are males. And interestingly handled.

I mean, Ghirahim is an obvious case of fabulous and creepy-sexy, and Ganondorf is so moe and charming now with his flower and loreal hair. Like, the bad guys are set up as hubbie-bait and the good team is basically giving the ladies a nice party too~.

/obvious I’m just excited to enjoy all my good wifeys and evil hubbies ♥

  • Weeb

    Hyrule Warriors Empires when?

  • Sentinel

    Sounds great!

I wonder which mode though will get the expansion (Story mode, Adventure mode, etc.) or if it’ll be more than one of them.

  • NeptuniasBeard

Hopefully these updates make the OG villains playable, even better if they’re all free

  • Phoenixian Sama

Want a storyline featuring Vaati and his ascent from Minish to Evil god thing!

    • You’re speaking my language.

  • LordHyper

One of those updates better have Groose.

  • NyaBoy

Hyrule Warrior Xtreme Complete Edition is coming for christmas.

    • Ultimaniacx4

      Oh you, this isn’t Capcom.

      • monkey king

Yeah because other companies don’t release XL, complete, ultimate, extend editions right?
        Hint:
Dynasty warriors 8 Xtreme Legends complete edition.

        • Ultimaniacx4

Calm down there. No need for snide and snark. I wasn’t implying they’re the only ones who do it. Just pointing out the biggest offender as they themselves have done.

          http://press-start.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/ZAl5DBC.png

          • monkey king

Your “pointing out” is just inflaming for no reason, since the naming scheme nyaboy pointed out is nothing unusual for KT and has no bearing on what capcom or whatever other company does.

          • Ultimaniacx4

The reason was humor. And it wasn’t ‘inflaming,’ it’s just satire. Sometimes people like to have fun with satire as Capcom has in the image I linked. I’m terribly sorry that my joke wasn’t accurate enough for you. Next time I make a joke I’ll be sure to do all the research to make it as structured and austism friendly as possible so I don’t offend more people like this.

          • monkey king

I love how you told me to there is no need for snark and then you go ahead and do it yourself, stunning hypocrisy.

Your humour can easily be seen as just an inflammatory comment, because of how people like to hate on capcom in general, and because of how the comment you replied to had absolutely no bearing on capcom or any other company except KT themselves.

You made it about capcom, when there was no need to, especially since it delfected the practice from KT and directed it to capcom (“this isn’t”), even though KT is known for doing this themselves.

Your “satire” basically says: uhuh nuh-uh capcom blabla etc.
It’s almost as unrelated as responding to: “this type bread makes you fat”, with: “Oh you, this isn’t burgers”.

So if your intent wasn’t to make an inflammatory joke (which makes more sense), then your satire was just either terribly misplaced or just not very well thought through.

          • Unless you’re being really sincere about that autism line, mentions like that are not necessary (even if you are, it doesn’t work like that lol).

No need to pull any of the mental conditions into the discussion (especially to make jabs at people).

This is the game I am looking forward to most with Smash Bros. a close second.

    • smashbrolink

I think I’d prefer Xenoblade X, but this is coming out first so it’s what I’m getting first.

  • Ciethe

Can someone fill me in on what it is that gives Dynasty Warriors its cult following? I’ve already made my mind and am getting this game, but I’ve never wanted to play a Warriors game previous to this because gameplay looked repetitive and not challenging. Is there something I’m missing? I don’t want to get incredibly excited for this game, get my hands on it, and get tired of it after a few days I guess (Although with Ghirahim and Ruto, that’s unlikely).

    • monkey king

There have been many immitators, but the musou games are the best at what they do, and what they do is awesome.

      • Ciethe

What are the differences between the games? I wasn’t aware there was one.

        • monkey king

          Between what games?

          • Ciethe

Oh I thought the Musou was separate from Warriors. Kinda like the Gundam version. But what do they do well? What’s the draw?

          • monkey king

Large scale objective based battles, you are basically constantly barraged with objectives during battles.
It might seems repetitive at a first glance, but it really isn’t because you are constantly actually doing something.
The objective is never kill this many guys for instance.

Also your combos become longer and stronger as you level up, and in general it just feels great laying waste to dozens of peons at a time.

          • Ciethe

Yeah as long as my combos grow stronger over time I think I’ll be able to enjoy this. I was mostly worried about repetitive combos after using them over and over. I heard you can add new attacks upon level up, but I’m just curious as to how much they really change.

          • monkey king

You basically start out with a basic string of 4 weak attacks, and each of the hits can be chained into a strong attack called c1-6 (weak, weak, strong is c3).

In general the c1 is a guard break, the c2 is a juggle starter, the c3 is a stun and the c4 is an aoe.
That’s what you start out with and leveling up adds hits 5 and 6 which enables c5 and c6, which are generally a stronger launcher/aoe.

Depending on which musou franchise it is, you’ll also gain additional “musou” attacks, which are basically super moves and “ex” attacks, which are basically following up a strong attack with another strong attack.

Then there is unlocking stronger weapons etc.

          • Well just to be clear, “Musou” is the Japanese name for the “Warriors” games, that’s all.

Dynasty Warriors is known as Sengoku Musou, Hyrule Warriors is known as Zelda Musou, etc. It’s a good general descriptor to describe Koei’s brand of this type of game, versus, say, Capcom’s Sengoku Basara titles or Mistwalker/Konami’s Ninety Nine Nights or Blueside/Phantagram’s Kingdom Under Fire titles.

And I have to disagree with Monkey King. I find all three series I just listed to be better than Koei’s games. Not looking for a fanboy war or anything, just not happy to hear the “best at what they do” when there are other super high quality entries in the same kind of brawling sub-genre.

          • monkey king

Basara’s western releases were botched with a gimped battle system, though basara 3 is pretty good.
KuF games are too slow for my tastes.

N3 tried hard but it was plagued with issues like too many 1 hit kill bosses very deep into missions, lots of slow, long range traveling (this became less of an issue with inphy’s double dash).

What these 3 franchises have in common most is that they were very much style over substance, like basara’s outlandish design’s and attack animations, and N3’s army killer attacks.

      • Tiredman

The thing about Dynasty Warriors games is you are seldom left to one character to do everything with. You do each section of the story segments with specific characters and it constantly switches you between them so there si little time to get bored with one character. Different weapons, body sizes affecting various things, and a bunch more make it deeper than it seems.

Plus, these Hyrule Warrior trailers are all being played on easy. Play on a higher difficulty, and I bet that like the Dynasty games, you won’t be able to take on everything head on. In Dynasty Warriors 7 I had to play keep away with a lot of harder bosses until I could use their henchmen to build up my special move meter and then turn around, slam the boss in the face, and then run again. Strategy is required as you raise the difficulty.

    • Göran Isacson

If you have half an hour to spare, this guy here has a pretty good talk about why Dynasty is as big as it is.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyGP_2d2cYc

Buuut if not… In short: one of the few games who still manages to have couch co-op on console, very easy and quick to get into, and it makes you feel powerful since mowing down enemies in the hundreds is one hell of a power trip. I recommend checking the video, he makes some pretty good points about what kind of game this is, what it does compared to it’s competitors and a bit of history on how the series has developed (yes, it actually HAS developed throughout the ages, even if you wouldn’t guess it from looking).

  • Serge
    • DivinePhoenix69

According to someone from the Koei Warriors forums who translated this image, it pretty much says that they intend to support the game with additional content over a long period of time with Characters, Weapons, and additional scenarios.

  • Göran Isacson

One hopes they’ll release updates with more characters in it. The Groose must be set loose. He must be set loose.

Also a Linkell is fine too.

  • Kalis Konig

Welp knew this was coming the moment 3 finished characters were not playable and Midna no longer had a second weapon.

  • Kornelious

Well that’s good, i don’t plan on dropping the game anytime soon when I get it :D

And WHERE is the NA Limited Edition already! >:(

  • Leonard Norwood Jr.

Obviously these updates will come up with more characters, and more places to take the fight to the forces of evil hopefully, I do plan to play all characters in this game and look forward to it. There’s so much they can do in this game. and I don’t doubt other characters in the zelda series to have some fight in them I can think of a few more people who can take the fight to them, Din, Farore, and Nayru (Oracle of ages and seasons), Tingle, Niko (since he is a pirate), plenty of others from various games. Of course any original characters from Hyrule Warriors, they can come up with is just as awesome.
