Ultra Dimension Action Neptunia U CPUs Transform To Fight Tetrominos

By Spencer . August 14, 2014 . 10:02pm

Compile Heart has a bunch of new Ultra Dimension Action Neptunia U videos, an action game spinoff developed by Tamsoft. These clips show Neptune, Noire, Blanc, and Vert cut through dozens of Dogoos and trounce the Tetromino-like Testris.

The Costume Break shown in the video occurs after you take too much damage. The downside is you’ll take more damage, but your critical attack rate goes up and your EXE gauge which you need to transform fills faster. Ultra Dimension Action Neptunia U comes out for PlayStation Vita on August 28.

    hmmm… it’s good.. it’s good… I’m ‘excited’ in so many ways… especially Vert’s ultimate…

  • Nightmesh

“Oh their trying to go for an action game. I’m mildly inter” *costume break* “Its gone. You had me and now its gone.”

    • Rentekabond

Yeah, that’s how I felt too. I was thinking how fun it’d probably when this gets localized because the gameplay actually looks pretty good relative to the main series and then that popped up and it killed my hype boner.

If they confirm an option to turn off the transition cut-in, I could easily get it for the Melissa Fahn goodness.

      • Nightmesh

If they do then I might pick it up a bit after launch. The fan service isn’t my taste and I’d rather not risk the looks from my family if they see me playing it. I really like the combat animations. Their nice.

Edit:Did not know it was a vita title.

        • machomuu

Given that it’s a Vita title, I don’t think you’ll have to worry about looks from your family. Unless you have a Vita TV/Playstation TV or they play it too.

          • Nightmesh

Oh I didn’t know it was a vita title. That’s awesome because I just watch the videos and assumed it was PS3 quality. Holy Cow! I can’t say that enough.

          • Rentekabond

That’s really only cause HDN have always had Garbage graphics relative to the ps3 in the first place, let’s be real.

          • tubers

Just don’t look at the lack of dynamic shadow/s and the texture quality when zooming in for the costume break animation (probably not too bad on the VITA’s screen and res.).

The main model looks convincing at a glance as some PS3 jrpg cel-shaded/toon shaded models. It’s only rendering one humanoid model at a time tho.. unlike some PS3 jrpg titles close to its art-style.

    • Shippoyasha

Well, the great animation of the girls makes it look more lewd than it really is. Because it’s actually less actual battle damage than something like Senran Kagura or Bullet Girls.

      • Misty Dawson

Hm maybe because the people who did Senran Kagura are also working on this one?

    • SakuStar Light

you disappoint me kamina would be disappointed you said that.

    Xbox win(?)

  • KazukiNanbu

looks like a mod of Dynasty Warriors with Nep and company in it, not that i am complaining

    • machomuu

If Dynasty Warriors were injected with a few doses of Senran Kagura.

      • Maksim Tsirulnik

Funny enough, the developers behind “Senran Kagura” are working on developing the game.

This game is actually a near carbon copy, gameplay-wise, to the “Senran Kagura” game for the PSVita.

    • NeptuniasBeard

      Gameindustri Warriors?

      • KazukiNanbu

i was thinking “Neptunia Warriors” but your name works better

Makes me wish the Vita was hacked so I can rip those new songs. (and seriously? Recycling old tunes again?)

    • SakuStar Light

this game makes me feel weird in ways that i never thought i would….dem feels.

    • God

Sooo, would you recommend this anime to someone who only liked the original game (the others lacked ANY kind of seriousness, and where less funny with fewer reference (methinks)).

      • Its okay. It took its own spin on the series, taking bits and pieces of plot from the games and changed it up a bit. I personally didn’t like this because it basically squeezed three whole games (not even really the first one, only like the first episode in the very beginning kinda started from the first one.)into a 12 episode series which really ticked me off. But its still a good watch. So i would say watch it. If you are one of those people who is worried about fanservice, the show never takes it very far. I thought it was very tolerable and limited, considering there is much worse lol

Now, i am curious as to why you expected seriousness from the series. The first one had some moments, but they were always always made light of because of the characters witty banter. There was never truly any serious tone imo.

All the games pretty much kept the light hearted tone that the first one set (although MK2 had that conquest ending and the whole premise was a bit serious, and the references where toned down a bit in later games but were still there at points just not shoved in your face) with comedy and some cool times here and there.

I wouldnt mind a serious game from the neptunia series. Victory 2 is giving me that vibe a little. And those 8 bit endings they always do during the credits always seem super sad and serious, as if maybe compile/IF do want to make a serious game lol

        • God

Well, i don’t expect a lot of seriousness, but the first game at least some when it needed to.

The second game had almost none, expect for the basic premise (wich was just an excuse to change the main characters) and perhaps a few moments with CFW Bave (wich where still over the top for comedy’s sake), and the premise of and the number of references and comedy was not even HALF of what there was in the original (and a good % of it was in optional, 3 line conversation with random NPC’s). The 4 sisters where obviously there for the sake of fanservice, the protagonist, Nepgear, was incredibly boring, but neither was she a serious character either, Uni is just Compile Heart’s way of making the game with 4 new main characters but still keeping Noire, since they are EXACTLY the same, i had no trouble with Rom and Ram however. I never knew about the conqueror ending, maybe i will go and watch it later…

The third one ticked me of from the start, i knew Neptune was the main character, so at least it was gonna be funnier than Mk.II, and my expectations only got higher in the first scene, that was a copy of the prologue in the first game, i kind of smiled for a moment, and then it ended, and i raged, it was i all a damn videogame… it was definetely funnier than the second one, and a little more serious (only a litte, since most moments that could have been serious were instantly ridiculed or simply done for lol’s sake), but to me, it was still way worse than the first, i never finished it, since unlike Mk.II, i didn’t force myself this time, i remember i once showed it to a friend, he forced himself to do the first mission, laughed at the NPC’s Dio reference, and yelled at me for making him play through that shit.

          • well to each his own i guess :3 i have never felt the series drop in entertainment once (except mk2 with having 3d model scenes instead of the usual 2d hand drawn ones which look 100x better) and have always managed to keep me laughing and wanting more.

Also that mk2 conquest ending is what gave it the M rating so im surprised you havent heard of it. Its pretty dark, for the series anyways, and really leaves a bad taste in your mouth because how sad and depressing it was lol.

im sad you dont find the series enjoyable past the first one. Again i guess its dependant on a persons tastes so no hard feelings. its my favorite series just below Tales of games and i find it disheartening when someone doesnt like it :/

Give the anime a chance if you want, although you may not like it given your reasons XD

          • God

Meh, i’ll put it on my list, but it’s pretty long, so it will probably be over a year before i watch it.

  • Oh man…..that was pretty Awesome!
While Im a little skeptic about the costume break (it seemed to happen a little too quickly, and would have liked different stages of it instead of pretty much everything all at once) and the enemies (they where kinda just standing there, hope there are more aggressive enemies in the game seeing as those are just beginning dungeon monsters), i think it will turn out nicely.

With Idea Factory now doing localization, i hope they can bring over this and the Noire game over quickly if at all. I can’t wait to play these. Ill import them if i have to, but common Iffy, you can localize! :D

Also…that Vert video..that was so on purpose after her break XD
The close up cam shot… *pic*

  • ivan012345

Somehow their EXE Skill doesn’t have as much of an impact as in Neptunia V since the skills in Neptunia V were in cinematic while in here it looks like a long normal skill … cinematics really brings the impact

    • Morningstar

This is an Action Hack and Slash game like Hyrule Warriors and Senran Kagura. My guess is that cinematic attacks would have probably messed up the experience somehow because the enemies would have likely been stopped (If they add mutliplayer think how abusable that scenario can be).

Also note that the Transformation cinematics also omitted

  • Yan Zhao

Every game seems to be going for dress break or stripping nowadays. Must be the new trend in Japan.

Akiba’s Strip, Senran Kagura games, Highschool DxD (though thats part of the actual show), that weird Girl SHooter game, and now this Neptunia game.

  • Morningstar

I’m starting to think that U will be a rehash of the first game’s story plotwise, but with mk2’s characters and V’s music.

    • i doubt it. its supposed to take place in the world of the original Neptunia. I assume it will be different, since they already did Rebirth 1 and i doubt they will reuse the story again (the story, not the formula,im sure the formula will be the same as always)

Maybe it will be some sort of continuation or side story from the 1st world. Who knows. Just keep optimistic, Compile Heart and IF have yet to fail me XD

      • Morningstar

I am already optimistic about this It just that It kinda would be interesting to see the original game adapted to another genre.

Also I’d lile to point out that the tetroninos in Neptune’s and Vert’s videos are smaller then n Victory, it make me wonder if any other enmies may have shrunk

  • Kornelious

Man whoever was playing this sucks for the first half XD

The game looks really fun though, and the costume break feature (While a bit overused now) Is always welcome!

…..Also did I forget to mention that Rebirth 1 is getting a Limited Edition! :D

    • i dont know if you are joking (i am sure you are) buuut ill tell you anyways just to be safe lol
They did that on purpose, having the character get hit so they can demonstrate the costume break. Thats why it happened in each and every vid.

Also damn you for posting the LE! Keep it quiet so that our chances of getting it increases! There are only 1000 available and are not even preorderable :/

shhh no one saw that. LE? What LE? Nope you misheard things everyone else >:)

      • Kornelious

Yeah I figured that was the case :P

And whoops, forgot about that…..Well y’know what they say, The early bird gets the HDD XD

        • yeah well imagine 10,000 or more birds all swooping down at the same time to grab 1 worm……being early made no difference XD

oh well good luck to you if you are trying on the day that its available. i know i will, but i wont beat myself over it too much if i dont get it. ill be happy with just the game <3

    • lozffvii

You yanks better be thankful you’re even getting an LE.
Fans of the series here in Europe have to make do with download only.

      • Kornelious

        ……What’s a yank?

        • lozffvii

It’s a pejorative term and a contraction of the word ‘yankee’, used by English speaking peoples outside of the US to refer to US Americans.
Think of it as our equivalent of your ‘Limey’.

          • ehtnah

I agree with you… we have digital only game and US have physical AND LE…. they won’t see the color of my money for Re2 or any other remake… and maybe I will buy this only with a reduction… because I’m European and I don’t enjoys being treated like garbage….

          • lozffvii

Actually, just on account of IFI apologising to European fans I’m more inclined to buy the game as soon as it hits the psn store. More money to them = higher chance the future games will get retail versions.
Getting defensive and denying them the money they need is only going to impact badly on all of us fans. :)

          • ehtnah

I was going to do just that, but that was before that LE announcement, I mean ok that was bad to have a digital only game, but having digital only when US got physical LE that an other league…
I’m not sure that more money = retail versions… I mean if they don’t care about us, your money will not change a thing…. I mean us LE BEFORE eu retail, that’s a big clue….
I’m sure re2 will be digital only in Europe, so I won’t miss a thing….

          • lozffvii

            A quick lesson on business:
You must spend money to make money.
If IFI cannot afford to make an EU retail edition NOW because of a lack of funds, then the more profits they make will increase the spending power they have and increase the likelihood that they will be able to make an EU retail edition LATER. Let’s not forget that if they see enough sales popping up from EU they may realise the size of the market here and that would make them MORE interested in giving the EU fans their retail edition.
However, I will admit that IFI spending the money on a US LE rather than putting the same money into an EU retail version is somewhat galling, but I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for the time being. If they pull the same thing with the next game though, I think it would be time to start questioning their priorities (most likely through a strongly-worded email).
