Toukiden Extreme Lets Loose Its New Lion-Type Oni, Yachigiri

By Sato . August 22, 2014 . 11:02am

The first Toukiden already had some pretty fearsome monsters, and it looks like things are about to get even worse for the Slayers, as Koei Tecmo introduced the latest one with Yachigiri, a lion-type Oni.

Yachigiri’s main characteristics have got be the two giant tusks on the sides of his face. It is said that it can slaughter enemies in all kinds of ways, and it is how it got its name of Yachigiri. That roughly translates to “eight thousand slashes”.

It has a tough frame that is suitable for the king of the jungle, but let’s not forget about its sharp teeth and claws that it also puts to good use while hunting down Slayers.

Additionally, Koei Tecmo showed off two new Mitamas with Kaihime, or Lady Kai, along with the heavy drinker, Shuten-doji.

Toukiden Extreme will be released in Japan on August 28, 2014 for PlayStation Vita and PSP.

  • Namuro

    Shuten-doji looks so cool…

  • Thatguy

So, Kaihime looks like her design based on Kaihime from Samurai Warriors and Shuten-Doji looks like Shuten-Doji from Warriors Orochi 3…

Cool. I liked their designs anyway)

Well, i don’t know. will i buy this game or not… Because i bought original. Will wait for reviews

  • KuroNathan

wait, but shuten doji is an oni… so onis hunting onis?

    • BrokenSkullZero

He helped in the mass murder of thousands of demons in Orochi’s army for some vague reason.

      And people hunt people too.

According to japanese folk lore, Shuten Doji has many different incarnations and back stories. Hes either King of the Oni or an outcast, depending on the story.

Regardless of his incarnations, its shown hes always had an affinity for humans. One story involving Shuten is that he would go around and spiriting away orphan children, and raising them within his castle, which “resides within the shadow of Mt. Fuji.” And then when fully grown, he gives them the choice to either continue living with him, or letting them leave to live lives among other humans, but unable to return.

  • Is the face of that monster gonna be like that for the whole game? Looks like MJ in the ending of Thriller. (The eyes made the whole monster scary tbh)

  • HellMuT

Really want to get Toukiden, but I’ve been holding off ever since they announced Extreme.

  • isotrex

I might just as well wait for the free Toukiden even if it’s the first one on PSN. :)

  • Ric Vazquez

I want kiwami, I guess I’ll have to import if it’s not localized.

  • raeldor

I like these hunter games, but they really challenge my kanji and Japanese a little too much. I am hoping Final Fantasy Explorers will be a little easier to understand.
