Square Enix shared a first look at Cloud’s Final Fantasy Explorers form in yesterday’s stream with Dengeki, where players will be able to momentarily transform into him through the game’s “Trance” feature. Square Enix closer look at the ex-SOLDIER in action.

The “Trance” system will let players pull off powerful abilities in the midst of combat, and it looks like they’ll do so by transforming into key characters of past Final Fantasy games.

Cloud will be able to use his signature Omnislash Limit Break as his attack. So far, we don’t know whether these “Legend Characters” are linked to the players job, but if they are, it’d be pretty cool seeing Black Mages transform into Vivi, or Paladins go into Cecil mode.

Final Fantasy Explorers is slated for release in Japan on December 18, 2014 for Nintendo 3DS.
