Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate And Smash Bros. To Get “New Nintendo 3DS” Bundles In Japan

By Sato . August 29, 2014 . 1:32pm

Nintendo had quite a lot to announce during this morning’s Nintendo 3DS Direct, with the big surprise being their New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL systems. The two systems have more CPU power, better battery life and stereoscopic 3D that doesn’t distort when you view it at an angle.

Eventually, these two systems will get exclusive games, including a version of Xenoblade Chronicles, Monolith Soft’s fantastic RPG for the Wii. But before those come along, how do Nintendo plan to sell the New Nintendo 3DS systems in Japan? Answer: with Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and Smash Bros.

This morning, Nintendo announced a special New Nintendo 3DS bundle that comes with Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate in Japan.  It will be one of the first limited edition models for the new handheld series, and will release simultaneously with Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate on October 11, 2014  for 25,600 yen (about $246.22).

Nintendo were keen to point out that Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and even this December’s Final Fantasy Explorers will both take advantage of the New Nintendo 3DS’ second analog stick, even though you don’t require it to play either game. Capcom and Square Enix have been in on the secret for a while.

Additionally, Super Smash Bros. will also get a New 3DS XL model. In the case of the Smash Bros. model, the official  website indicates that it won’t include the game, and it will release sometime in November, just a couple months after the release of the game in Japan.

The design looks like the same as the limited edition 3DS XL model that will be included with the game’s release.

Both hardware bundles should ensure a fairly good start for the New Nintendo 3DS once the system is available in the Japanese market.

Smash one is ugly but damn that MH one is sexy!

  • Rintarou

Dear lord that MH 3DS… I will cry if that is available for the US release. I don’t count on it but man what I wouldn’t do for it.

  • NeChyan

So the new 3ds is gonna be region-free right?

    • César H. Sandoval

      No. :C

    • 하세요

Nintendo of Japan: “Hmm….make a couple 100k people who import stuff happy…or…have the ability to charge our fellow millions of people twice the price the rest of the world is paying for our games…”

I’m no business major, but the answer is kinda clear.

    • HarakiriKami

Some spanish site said it would be

      dont trust them

      another site did too

    • Namuro

I really hate to break it to you, seeing how you asked with such an innocent-looking face…

    • SaiyanJedi_Trunks

      Yes, it will. Enjoy! :3

      • Daniel Rossevelt

For a second I thought you were serious, then I thought it sounds too good to be true so I won’t believe it. But if you have a link…

        • SaiyanJedi_Trunks

Sorry to lead you astray, no it’s not true. I was taking the OP as a sarcastic comment. I wish it was region free though. :(

          • Daniel Rossevelt

Yeah it would be cool if it was region free, anyways no problem like I said sounded too good to be true.

    • You may wanna sit down.

  • 하세요

God the more I see it….
Man, I may give in. Dammit dammit dammit. xD Curse you, Monster Hunter and your blessed series.

  • take all of my damn money, come over here pls :L

  • Ric Vazquez

Dat MH4U bundle…welp, there goes my walltet.

  • InfinityAge11

Smash Bros decal needs moar Shulk.

  • mike dickson

    that Mh4U 3ds so pretty

  • Tenabrus

    I want these in America

  • flameraver64

I’m kinda miffed that the New XL doesn’t get swappable faceplates, but man if that MH4U XL came out in NA that’d be amazing.

    • Namuro

It’s to even out the sales. They have to give the small one a unique feature to stand out. Also, most younger and female customers tend to like the small one, and they love to accessorize the console…

      • flameraver64

I kinda get that, but at the same time, size should be enough of a differentiating factor.

      • Princess_Eevee9

I feel offended that that is entirely true.

  • Namuro

Good thing I didn’t pre-order the old MH4G bundle set. You shall sit on the throne next to my Gore edition…

  • TheBlackKnight3

I want that Monster Hunter one… soooo bad… hope it’s XL but the size isn’t that big a difference.

    • HarakiriKami

      Its thinner

      • Dystopiq

        It’s also longer and wider.

        • Princess_Eevee9

Does it last longer and if so by how much?

          • Link

            About an hour more.

          • Jero

            bout half an hour

          • Princess_Eevee9

… What? Well… kinda letdown but whatevs.

          • Jero

The screen is brighter and the 3D is dynamic so the camera is always on (you move and the ‘3D’ moves with you). The processor is more powerful too, all that stuff drains power so it’s actually surprising it lasts even more than the old ones.

          • Princess_Eevee9

Forgot about all of that oops. Is this taking brightness into effect too?

          • Jero

In the video said “from 3.5 to 6 hours” for the small model and “from 3.5 to 7 hours” for the XL. This means playing a game with full 3D/volume/wifi on probably/full brightness the system lasts 3.5 hours and with everything turned off the system lasts 6 or 7 hours.

Keep in mind that for the original model battery lasts from 3 to 5 hours and for the original XL from 3 to 6.5 hours.

tldr; half an hour more compared to the old model with every setting at max.

          • Princess_Eevee9

Ah I see. Thank you for the info.

I read it all thank you. Sorry kinds hate seeing tl; dr. Implies that I can’t read.

          • Dystopiq

Like .5 Longer on 3D from what I saw. Not sure what that translates to in non 3D mode.

          • 7 hours they said.

        • jugss

I hope the audio is louder than the current XL.

  • Well since i already payed for smash i gotta get that sexy ass mh4 one. Common bring to the US :D

  • idrawrobots

    The art is upside-down. -_-

    • Namuro

Only to the people opposite you, which they won’t be able to see the design anyway, since it would likely be facing down your lap.

But hey! The face plates for the small 3DS are done the way you like it!

      • idrawrobots

It would also be upside-down in the new charging dock.

        • Namuro

I doubt many people will be bothered by that.

I can’t imagine someone getting mad each and every time they see their 3DS being charged upside-down. LOL

But like I said, they give you an option now. Just get the small 3DS. That should solve your problem.

  • SetzerGabbiani

“how do Nintendo plan to sell the New Nintendo 3DS systems in Japan? Answer: with Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and Smash Bros.”

    Sales problem solved.

  • Dystopiq

I need this like gunshot victims need blood.

  • Princess_Eevee9

    Is it November yet?

  • Invisbin

Ugh…so I have to buy smash thrice? I’m confused. If this comes bundled with smash in November, that means I have to wait a month after it’s out? :(

  • oh another pretty monster hunter 3DS :D

  • James Enk

that MH4 3DS looks so amazing, if i didn’t care about money i would have already pre-ordered it

  • triablos

The difference in price of the normal and xl is barely anything (after converting to £ on google) so hopefully its like that when they release on the UK too. I really want to get the xl version this time.

  • Nonscpo

This will make a lot of importers very happy.

  • Link

I’m honestly expecting the New 3DS to launch alongside MH4U here in the states. I just hope that the LE bundle comes along as well.

    • Nonscpo

That’s actually quite plausible considering that the game isn’t coming till next year.

      • Link

I’m expecting a February release if anything.

    • azureknight

I would preorder one ASAP if this was true.

Too bad it’s never going to happen.

      • Link

Well they did state that Capcom and Square Enix knew about the N3DS revision when developing MH4G and FF:E so they seem to be wanting to push the new hardware with these games. The chances may be slim but theres still hope, especially if they wanna push Monster Hunter in the west.

        • azureknight

        • Bailey Olsen

Maybe that’s why monster hunter 4 ultimate is coming our early 2015 not 2014. So it can release along side the ‘new’ 3ds.

The other day I was wondering why Capcom haven’t shown of any limited edition monster hunter 3ds’s.

Oh how everything makes sense :P

        • J_Joestar

was that an actual statement from Nintendo or an assumption in the article? i mean, i would have assumed that the NN3ds’s c-stick and extra buttons are basically mapped to where they would be on a CPP anyways to Capcom and SE wouldn’t have really needed any special changes if they were already planning for CPP usage.

    • Omfg I still want that special black mh4 3ds xl, but to think maybe by some crazy tiny chance it could come as the new 3ds xl… I just want to dream.

  • Guy Wesley

Sigh, once again, North America is the only region to not announce a Smash bundle…

Why do they wait until after everyone else recently?

    • PreyMantis

Maybe because they come out in Japan earlier?

  • Jero

I hope they release a plate for the small new 3ds, if not, i’ll just print one i guess.

    • J_Joestar

IIRC they already have a Kutku Plate and a Poogie Plate

    • you know that the plate also change you home menu theme.

  • Money?Muney??All my luveee!!!

Monster Hunter series must already had the most limited edition given by Ninty there lol,.^_^

  • Ms_Fortune

Not surprising given the popularity of MH and ensures the new 3DS sells.

  • ronin4life

Does the Smash one even come with the game though?

I was on the Nintendo site for the new consoles and it looked like it said it didn’t.

    • They usually are with the game, look at Animal crossing 3DS XL.

  • Kornelious

Give me a Xenoblade themed N3DS and you got yourself a day-One buyer!….Though If we get the Smash one I might just have to get it even though I’ll already have the game (especially seeing how bland all the default colors look -_-)

    • I want a Fantasy life one :D

  • Nintendo is really in need of someone to come up with better names. Hell they might have just gone with Super 3DS instead…

    • NeptuniasBeard

Probably one of the reasons it’s not releasing out here right away. Japan might not have a problem telling the difference, but I’m sure the west will…

      • CrowSenji

I’m don’t get how the west will have a problem and why are people making such a big deal out of the name??.. Surely a person should ask for “the” new 3ds instead of “a” new 3ds when buying one……….. Common sense?

  • Jadfish

naaah I’m not digging this one. I’ll wait for the next Monster Hunter themed 3DS

  • james

will mh4 still be playable to everyone who cant afford to buy another handheld?
