Natural Doctrine Rescheduled For October 3 In Europe, September 30 In North America [Update]

By Spencer . September 2, 2014 . 11:59pm

ss_85d_ENG NIS America pushed Natural Doctrine, a tactical RPG developed by Kadokawa Games, back one week to September 30 in North American and to October 3 in Europe. Interestingly, Natural Doctrine now has the same amount of delays in the West as it did in Japan.

Originally, Natural Doctrine was scheduled to come out for the PlayStation 4 launch in Japan, but was delayed to March 19. Then the game was delayed again to April 4 to improve online play.

Natural Doctrine will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita.

Update: An earlier version of this article had the release date for Europe listed for North America. This article has been updated accordingly./p>

Well, I suppose I’m glad it’s being released over here at all. I’ll allow it, just this one time.

  • Such a baffling delay. I mean, I get a huge delay – that’s just when a game needs more dev time to come together. But these week-by-week changes? What is that? Did they run into some production issue? A problem with the marketing budget (since NISA is publishing Fairy Fencer F very close to this)? Are they scared of Hyrule Warriors taking up the attention of the same potential audience?

Always so baffling when this happens…

But I’m working on my backlog anyway so I’ll have to get this later anyway. It IS definitely getting picked up though! I can’t wait! Until I clear off some games from my backlog, that is ;P

You know what would be hilarious…. if they were worried about SMT IV!

There was a couple of Typhoons that ran up the side of east-asia underneath (and across!) Japan. They disrupted loading and shipping of things for a week or two (including a couple of kickstarter projects I follow); so I’d say that’s why these are delayed since the physical copies (and any LEs) are probably all printed in China and then shipped over to the US.

So clearly if this was a digital-only title there wouldn’t have been delays. :P

      • Thanks for the insight! That’s an important detail – I definitely wouldn’t have known that at all otherwise.

  • I cancelled my copy and was going to get it later as I have too many games in September so it kinda suits me =P

    • AznEvan

It’s the same for many of us…Especially with the new Senran Kagura game coming out on PS Vita… *Gurgles*

      • chaleb

Just dropping in to ask why you have my waifu as your profile pic?

        • AznEvan

I guess we all share the same waifu too, apparently…

  • OrangeArmy

Honestly, I’m okay with this, I got 5 games (Theatrhythm, Fairy Fencer F, Naruto UNSR, Hyrule Warriors and Persona 4 Arena Ultimax) other than ND pre-ordered from Sep 16-30, and this will give me a breather. You might be thinking “Gee OrangeArmy, why don’t you just cancel some and get them later?”, well shut up, that’s why!.

    • bob

I’m glad too, between 9/23 and 10/14 there are fistfuls of niche releases and I wasn’t sure I could afford it all at once.

  • Astralwyrm

Both games i was planning to buy this month delayed til next month! /sigh =(

  • megamanZ95

Wait september 30 to Oct 3 is a 3 day delay from Tuesday to Friday. Is this a typo or what? Cause I don’t see how 3 days will improve online that much

    • darke

Japan’s delay was online. This delay is probably flow on effect of physical copies made in China being delayed leaving due to typhoon a few weeks ago.

  • This release date thing is a running joke huh?

  • pokeroi

Not sure Natural Doctrine is competitive enough for an October release… Oct/Nov/Dec are harsh months…

  • sakusakusakura_nyo

I’m really excited about Natural Doctrine. I’m getting my PS4 next week and need some current gen strategy games.

  • Kaitou21

Not expecting much from this game but kinda sorta sad that it was delayed again, i hope they don’t think this game can fight against the other major games that release this fall, (like freedom wars.)

    • You don’t think it looks promising? :( I was hoping this would be a good one.

    • landlock

It honestly doesn’t look very exciting. I’m sure I’ll end up giving it ago though at some point the other side of Christmas.

  • Metal Max is Kadokawa Games too, right? I hope this does well and we get more of their stuff.

    • landlock

You can only hope, loved every minute of Metal Saga on the PS2. About to try the fan translated one on the Snes.

      • The fan-translated Super Famicom one is the only one I’ve played. It’s a real shame this series has stayed in Japan.

        • landlock

You should try the one on the PS2 then it was released in America by Atlus. Real good fun.

          • Yeah, I forgot that one even existed. I remember reading at the time that it didn’t have any cohesion to it, so I guess I skipped it. I probably would have enjoyed it though. I don’t even have a PS2 anymore, I’m afraid.

          • darke

I still have my PS2, but I play all my games in emulation on the PC nowadays since things look so much better on it. That might be a solution to you.

          • Yeah, I should probably look into that!

      • British_Otaku

Judging from the info on Wikipedia alone, the Metal Max series seems pretty interesting. Non linear story with multiple approaches and endings, open world vehicle RPG even from the early installments.

Shame Metal Saga wasn’t released in Europe or I would consider that as a first entry.

        • You could always try the Super Famicom fan translated version too! :)

    • British_Otaku

Yeah, you reminded me that Metal Max 4 released in Japan on the 3DS last year… I didn’t pick it up, but if I see the limited edition for cheap I’ll consider it even if I’m not sure if the fourth+ installment is a good place to start.

      • Yeah, I wish we’d gotten it in NA/EU. If Natural Doctrine isn’t good and doesn’t see in English, I wonder if that’s the nail in the coffin.

  • Kornelious

Well That’s not to bad,…..Actually it makes it much easier to manage my LE’s from NISA…

    9/16 Fairy Fencer F
    9/23 Ar No Surge
    9/30 Natural Doctrine

Them being in the order of most wanted to least wanted is just a bonus! :D
