Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea Is Headed West In 2015

By Sato . October 20, 2014 . 8:00am

Atelier Shallie: Aclhemists of the Dusk Sea, the third installment of the Atelier series’ “Dusk” story, and the second with two protagonists, is headed West announced Koei Tecmo Europe on Twitter earlier today.

While we don’t have a release window besides 2015, it took about nine months for the western localization of Atelier Escha & Logy, so it’s safe to assume that it won’t be too far into 2015 when it gets released in North America and Europe.

I want this, but everyone knows there’s just gonna be a plus version in about a year. I would ask why they even bother, but then I remember that I’m only one of the 151 vita owners in the west…

    • Zazon Zenzy

Be grateful that Koei Tecmo is kind enough to not use waiting game tactics similar to MH4U…

      • Money?Muney??All my luveee!!!

I would actually be more happy here if they did that though. MH4U is the definitie just like how Bravely Default we are getting the definite version.

Why do we need to get the 90% mode of the game when the 110% is going to come.

        • Altin

“I would actually be more happy here if they did that though.”
I wonder if you would say the same thing if TK didnt announce that they are going to release it next year. Hindsight is always easier than foresight.

    • LM009

I happily play both versions of all the ateliers. The plus version additions gives me plenty incentive to replay(ie makina domain in meruru- insane bosses). The alchemy system is just so much fun and unique, if you put the effort into making a good bomb or ingot, it shows in battle. I mean you have “crafting” in other games, but they’re just lame systems tacked on, don’t even get me started about eleth mixers in ToG.

      • Magicks

I like playing both versions of the game as well. It’s incentive to play the game again for all the bonus stuff that weren’t available during the first playthrough. And a huge benefit; I can play on the go; so if I ever set that synthesis-itch while I’m at university, I can just whip out my Vita and play for a bit.

The only real complaint is that not everyone can afford getting both versions; if you had the option of either getting a 90% version and the 110% version, then you’d want the 110% version despite having to wait longer since it’s better for your wallet in the long run. I also feel a little burned that they release plus versions so quickly because I then feel like I’m spending $60 for the game, then another $10 on DLC only to have all that, PLUS DLC, PLUS more content on the go for a cheaper price of $40. :T I guess in the long run we’re supporting that Plus version, but I don’t know…

    • Dashaun Rutledge

      LOL I have a vita

  • Oh hey, cool! I was almost expecting this to not be announced until 2015 as it is.

  • Naygen

I would get this, but there’s no point if they’re gonna release a plus version one year later..
    Kinda makes you mad.

    • Not really. I’ll be getting it when it comes out.

      • Naygen

Look, I really don’t get the big idea.
Why bother releasing the game if it’s all-but-confirmed (according to the other titles) that this game will get an updated port?
I’d rather wait another year and get the Plus version on the PS3, instead of having to buy two products.
There are also many people who don’t have a Vita at all in the first place.

        • DyLaN

For the $$$$, and some other reason ppl stated.

        • Slayven19

Well like you say many don’t have a vita so the ps3 version is all they need. The extras are never anything special anyway, just some costumes.

        • Because people don’t have a Vita.

          Duh.

          Guess what I don’t have.

          A Vita.

Guess what costs money that I have.

Bills, car, house, that kind of thing.

Sorry but I just don’t have the ability to afford yet another console for something so I would much rather spend 40 dollars for a mostly complete game than 200+ for one. The PS3 copies are good enough for me.

          • Naygen

It kinda sounds like you agree with me.
I’m not saying “Stop the PS3 versions”.
I’m just wondering, why can’t they release the Plus version on both consoles?
That way, people could choose on which platform they want to play according to the consoles they currently own.

          • Incentivizing, expanding your range of consoles supported and finding ways to turn a profit on something that came out a year ago. That is the marketing answer, at least.

    • AlphaSixNine

I like the game enough to double dip and re-play the game on my Vita after PS3 version. Both 100% completed. Done it for every single one of em and enjoyed every single one of em. ;p

      My Vita memcard cries every single time though… ;.;

    • Kyosuke Yoshino

Well I always buy all Atelier games for PS3 and even the Plus versions for VITA :3

Since they’re one of my favourite games I’m happy when they release PLUS, and don’t care about buying it two times:)

    • Ladius

I can see your point, but I don’t really agree with this. So far, Plus versions haven’t really had such relevant improvements (aside from Rorona, which wasn’t even called Plus in Japan), and if you like the series waiting for one or two years just to have some costumes or DLCs doesn’t really make sense, especially considering they’re released here digitally and at full price. That isn’t even considering the fact that some people actually prefer playing on PS3, and that Plus versions sometimes are technical inferior to the originals, not to mention the series is already selling very poorly in the west and boycotting it could make Tecmo Koei stop their localization efforts.

As for newer Plus games, Ayesha Plus could still interest some people because of the Japanese dub track, and Escha & Logy will apparently have a bit more new features, but still I would have never waited so much to play those games.

Then again, considering how Atelier games are usually very replayable and centered on gameplay rather than story, I think some people actually enjoy playing them on PS3 and then revisiting them on Vita some years later.

      • RedSuisei

Totori+ has Orthogalaxen and some slightly rebalanced stuff.

Meruru+ has additional secret bosses, much rebalanced item traits, equipments, and skills (Cost Bonus, anyone?), bunch of new item traits, and a new ending altogether (which is arguably the True End).

It’s not just costumes and DLCs. Being quite the niche single player games, I really don’t feel the need to play them ASAP (though I will buy the Plus games day 1).

  • Anoia

    Thank you KT.

  • Slayven19

I’m not really hyped for this game, no playable linca makes me kinda sad. I’lll get it day one however but I probably won’t beat it twice.

    • Yes but it’s megane Linca so it makes up for the loss of playability.

  • Luis Camargo

    AAAAWWWW YEEEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHH

Escha & Logy was my first Atelier game and I can’t wait to get this one.

  • Isuke-sama

Two good Atelier news in one day. Today is a good Monday.

After the Dusk series what’s next? Shin Atelier Ayesha? It’d be cool if we have an Arland and Dusk crossover.

    • Revyatheworldeater .

I think we only got Shin Atelier Rorona because the original wasn’t quite up to snuff with the other games and might not have been able to be ported properly. It was one of their first (I think it was their first, followed by Ar Tonelico 3) PS3 games done in a 3d engine.

      • Isuke-sama

Maybe, but it’ll be cool if they make an Ayesha remake just because the whole BS with Ayesha absent.

  • Money?Muney??All my luveee!!!

Well, considering how there are almost 100% there are going to be Plus version in 2015 Jp….. i am really not feeling it here.T_T

  • AlphaSixNine

    TAKE MY MONEY.

Here’s the one for the Plus version too. I know you’ll do it too and I know I’ll buy that too Day One anyway.

  • Raw

PLEASE GOD, DON’T GIVE US A SHITTY LOCALIZATION AGAIN.

Dialogue was bearable, but the translation of alchemy effects was horrible, if not endgame breaking.

    • Joshua Myers

      Which one? Escha?

      • Raw

        Yes.

        • Joshua Myers

Yea i hated the audio too the music was okay but my god the voices compared to the others they suck ass its like they recorded them in some run-down studio.

          • Guest

            Yeah…no.

          • Joshua Myers

no? About what? mind going into detail?

          • Raw

You mean the english VOs? The Jap VOs were fine, IMO.

          • Joshua Myers

I was using the japanese voice overs in my recent play through and it sounds somewhat awful compared to the other games >.> somewhat muddy instead of the crystal-clear non-ear bleeding sound we usually get.

          • Raw

Mmm, well. Let’s hope they are better on Shallie. I’m still concerned since Shallie is supposed to be the weakest entry in the PS3 games.

  • Suriel Cruz

“Yes!” Glad I’ll be hanging around a little bit more with my PS3. ^ ^
    2015 promises GREATNESS!
Tales of Zestiria, Atelier Shallie and Persona 5(this one hopefully!).

    • awat

heck yes homie, ToZZZ and dude man P5 ! Woahw 2015 is around the corner.

    • Joshua Myers

Dont forget Witcher 3 too XD

      • Suriel Cruz

Actually! The Witcher 3 is only for PC, PS4 and Xbox ONE, so…

  • Joshua Myers

    Awesome! Cant wait

  • bigboss09

TK Please don’t forget ciel no surge OFFLINE
we went every GUST game in english and in retail not only PSN

    • dsadsada

I’d still be satisfied with Ciel being PSN only as long as we do get it considering how much of a long shot it is. But retail would definitely be better.

  • And my Ateliar collection and fix are saved =^_^=

    • Crimrui

Indeed. Aside from Zestiria I would love to see a Shining Resonance translated. That would be… overfill :3

      • Ladius

Zestiria is the PS3 game I’m looking forward most, and as far as PS3 exclusives go I stll hope for Shining Resonance to be localized, and of course for Utawarerumono 2 (provided Aquaplus manages to release it in Japan, since it has been a long time since the last news).

      • We’d explode from all the awesome lol

  • MDH

    LMAO 2 SHALLIE

  • awat

nice finally ,every new Atelier game is always welcome.

  • Fronkhead

I’m probably going to end up playing this in 2016.

Moving to yearly releases (alongside enhanced ports and reimagined releases like Rorona Plus) has me a bit fatigued of the series right now. Much like how I find it hard to spend a lot of time on Pokemon now it’s essentially a yearly series since Black and White.

Glad to see KT localise and bring this overseas though. Fingers crossed for Fatal Frame 5 if Nintendo aren’t going to do anything with it.

    • Ladius

I think it’s definitely because of rereleases, Atelier has been a yearly franchise since the beginning aside from the Elie-Lilie gap, but with the Plus games being consistently localized the schedule has been getting busier and busier for western fans. That said, the situation would have been the same even before Tecmo Koei took over if NISA had released all their DS and PSP Atelier, which sadly ended up staying in Japan aside from Annie and MK’s port. As for me, I’m happy to get every Atelier game they decide to bring here.

      • Fronkhead

Of course, it’s great news, just that I’m finding it hard to dedicate the time each year for the games which is sad.

I think other series are in worse positions though due to the need to “catch up” with Japan. Tales is a good example nowadays: I’d never be able to find the time to play through Xillia, both Symphonia games (played those on GC/Wii at least), Xillia 2 and Hearts R in the last year and a half.

  • Yes. ;u;

Now I’m just hoping that at least one of the otome games come over (preferably Haruka).

    • ReidHershel

Haha, just when I told you yesterday.

      • I was thinking that too. I thought of you right away. x’D

I guess it’s a waiting game now to see how soon Plus will be announced and when it’ll come over too.

        • ReidHershel

          And the cycle continues….

  • animefreakhq

When will the heroine main characters look their age?

    • They do already? I would like an older heroine though. . . or even a younger one, provided she’s lolibait (another Annie basically).

      • Joshua Myers

        loli ftw XD

      • animefreakhq

I am not looking for lolis lol. Older heroines would be wonderful but its not going to happen in this series.

        • Lol, I like genuine child characters, but given Rorona was a more recent title I feel the next child character will follow loli pattern instead (sadly). But yes, also true. Maybe back in the day, but I don’t think it will happen any time soon.

  • Learii

we all love Atelier series <3

  • Ladius

I’m so grateful to Tecmo Koei for their Gust localizations, considering how their games seems to sell in the US (no real numbers sadly, but a comment I read from a NPD leaker was extremely disappointing) I really feared they could stop localizing them altogether, especially considering how some of them are incredibly text heavy, like Ar nosurge.

Now that Atelier Shallie has been announced the only one I still hope to see is Ciel nosurge, even if I understand that would be a riskier gamble even compared to Ar nosurge.

  • LM009

FUCKING YES…..that’s all I wanted to say

  • mc3027

Yay! It’s about time we get this announcement. (:

  • ivanchu77

Glad that we are still getting them :) , hopefully it keeps going like this for a couple more years at least, more ateliers are always welcomed

  • Clousephinat

It doesn’t have any sense at all that the useless of Escha make his return in this game (let’s just put her the same pose and almost the same outfit as Totori and then everyone will love this game!) and Ayesha in the other hand is just a NPC now -_-

I guess I will still play the game nonetheless.

    • Guest

      SHE’S not useless.

    • DyLaN

I have a feeling Gust is saving [insert item] up for the next Dusk entry though.

But…… I can’t really defend Ayesha palette swap.

      • sylontack

        Isn’t Dusk over with Shallie?

        • DyLaN

Frm what I’ve seen of ppl impression, there are unresolved plot points which seem to hint at a fourth Dusk entry. Folks who played the game/have knowledge abt it can correct me if I’m wrong though.

  • Hell yeah!! Now I really need to get around to playing Escha at some point.

  • Dashaun Rutledge

Full english dub this time please I always hate how much isn’t voiced by then it’s too late because I’ve grown to like them.

    • James Hewitson

Hehe not going to happen buddy, none of the recent atelier games have had full dubs or Ar Nosurge for that matter, besides it’s expensive to dub.
It doesn’t bother me as I much prefer Seiyuu’s to dubbing.

    • darke

That’ll only happen if the series gets popular enough for it to happen. It gets a partial EN dub because they don’t think they’ll sell enough to be profitable with a full EN dub.

      • Dashaun Rutledge

I remember the only one with full were the Arland games for some reason.

  • IDSD

    Day one buy as always.

  • Revyatheworldeater .

I love Gust Corporation’s soundtracks for all of their games.

  • awkwardkorean

    I’m excited for this :D

  • Kornelious

Awesome! I mean it’s not that surprising but it’s always good to have that confirmation

Normally I would be worried that they onl mentioned Europe, but TK always releases the Atelier games in NA and EU. And this one looks even better than Escha and Logy (minus having no Logy or Ayesha :( ) So i’m pretty excited! Day one for me! :D

……………..Now if we could just get a Limited Edition -_- TK don’t realize how many people (Like me) shell out money for that :(

  • ehtnah

ah man…. I hate that casualisation (no time limit), but… but… it’s atelier… but man an atelier without time limit doesn’t make any sens…. but since KT release (retail ^^) ar nosurge, and I hope ciel nosurge will follow, maybe I’m going to buy this… maybe…. but no time limit…. hope they fix this because if not they can count me out for ps4 atelier ~~

  • Aristides

Can’t wait to play the Plus version on Vita XD

  • Sergio Macellaro

    At last.
    In 2015 great RPGs coming:
Tales of Xestiria; P5 (Ps4 too -my chosen version- ), FF Type 0 e Atelier Shallie.
    No bad.
    And TiTs Sc?

  • dispedia

yes. my body is soo ready for this.

    • artemisthemp

Atelier Shallie sadly ain’t compatible with your body
