In November, Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition PC players will be able to transfer their save data and achievements over to Steam accounts. Games for Windows Live Rankings will not transfer over to Steam. Specific dates when players will be able to migrate their account will be announced later.

If you miss the migration period, you’ll still be able to redeem your Games for Windows Live Token for Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition on Steam. However, you may not be able to transfer over your character data, game progress, and achievements to Steam.
