By Spencer . October 20, 2014 . 10:38pm

darksouls1dDark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition is finally transitioning from Games For Windows Live to Steam. Players with the Games for Windows Live version will be able to redeem those tokens for Dark Souls: Prepare to Edition on Steam without paying extra.

In November, Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition PC players will be able to transfer their save data and achievements over to Steam accounts. Games for Windows Live Rankings will not transfer over to Steam. Specific dates when players will be able to migrate their account will be announced later.

If you miss the migration period, you’ll still be able to redeem your Games for Windows Live Token for Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition on Steam. However, you may not be able to transfer over your character data, game progress, and achievements to Steam.

Yay, I might finally get the PC version now. That doesn’t mean I’ll find time to play it though. Already did everything to be done on the PS3 version.

Thank Gaben! My prayers have been answered!

had to jump through hoops just to be able to save, only to get my account banned!

I didn’t notice anything bad about GFWL when I played the Batman games, but with DS, I realized it’s literally the devil. No wonder people hate it.

I don’t see anything if it will be dedicated servers. So it might still be p2p.

Cool, the migration process worked near flawlessly (a bit fiddly to setup though) with Ace Combat: Assault Horizon so this should be good. And it’s nice to have the game listed on both your Xbox/MS account and Steam, rather than it be one or the other.

This is a relief. I couldn’t play it with GFWL after I moved — it wouldn’t let me sign in. I’m pretty sure it has to do with the unalterable modem AT&T makes me use — some setting in there blocks GFWL.

Its about time. Shame I won’t be able to transfer my savedata, since GFWL routinely deletes it.

    Thank GWYN.
