LittleBigPlanet 3 Allows Players To Create Top Down Games

By Spencer . November 14, 2014 . 3:32pm

If you’re a fan of the classic Legend of Zelda games, Secret of Mana or perhaps Gremlins 2 on the NES, you can make your own with Sackboy and Oddsock in LittleBigPlanet 3. Sony Computer Entertainment’s video game creator game has a new top down perspective which looks ideal for 16-bit style action RPGs.

Players can also edit character animations and make more detailed backgrounds. Previous LittleBigPlanet games only had three layers of depth while LittleBigPlanet 3 has 16 layers.

LittleBigPlanet 3 comes out on November 18 in North America for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. The PS4 version will have improved graphics and renders textures at 1080p compared to 720p on PS3.

  • Pre-Ordered. This and Smash 4 are in my Top 5 GOTY 2014 list.

Personally I feel like LBP is a game many people sleep on in terms of how fun it is and how much you get for what you pay for. It’s especially fun playing online levels co-op with a friend locally. I had no idea it was coming out for PS3 as well, but I plan on buying the PS4 black Friday bundle so it works out better to get the PS4 edition.

      • Expect a 5th wave of Top-Down Shark Levels and Trophy Baits right off the bat in the Community hub.

Wow, They’re giving us a full 3d maneuvering options?…that’s a pretty big deal for a game that has always been 2 dimensional O_O

I’m glad i got this pre-ordered now, I wasn’t sure how much new stuff there would be at first, but now I know this is gonna be awesome! :D

BTW, Does anyone know if the launch Edition comes with the Plush Sackboy? (For Amazon specifically)

    • By preordering the game, you get upgraded to plush edition. Amazon has them if you pre ordered early.

  • Yeah, this has been known for a while. The game has full 3D maneuvering like Super Mario 3D World through a custom microchip, allowing for way more possibilities. In the beta, there have been a bunch of really cool 3D platformers and even a horror game inspired by PT. Tuesday can’t come soon enough.

did they ever ditch the community item limit? I stopped playing a while back due to that but I pre ordered LBP 3 hoping they would have done it by now.

  • DoctorButler

Full 3D movement is all I’ve ever wanted out of this series. I’m considering diving back in.

will community levels be separate between ps3 and ps4?

  • I’m not sure this is news, we were able to do this LBP2, hell someone even made a fps in LBP2.
