I’m considering getting into the Atelier franchise. Would getting this be a good idea?

    • NeoStrayCat

Depends, also, this marks the return of Atelier LE’s in the US (and maybe PAL regions too), since Ayesha, Escha/Logy, and Ronona Plus didn’t have them since the shift of company to KT. @[email protected]

      Took long though…

    • Limbless

The recent games have all been part of two separate trilogies:

The “Arland” trilogy is Rorona, Totori then Meruru.

The “Dusk” Trilogy is Ayesha, Escha & Logy, and then Shallie last.

So yeah, if you’re hoping to get into the series, start at either Rorona Plus or Ayesha, depending on which trilogy you’re more interested in. They have kind of different tones.

Some people would say to play Rorona plus AFTER Atelier Totori, which I guess is also valid, but opinions.

      • I actually jumped in at Totori, then played Meruru, Totori+, Meruru+, then returned to Rorona+, and I find I enjoy Rorona a lot having played the other two. Plus, carry-over content.

    • Jake Caro

Not a good idea to start. It’s the third in this series set in the same world. Start with Atelier Ayesha.

Or if you want to start further back Atelier Rorona starts the trilogy before this one.

    • dark-kyon

is fine to begin in shallie, you can also begin with escha and logy.the atelier games what are not good starting point are atelier rorona and atelier rorona plus, the first for oudated and the second is recommended have played atelier totori and meruru.also atelier meruru is recommended have played atelier totori first.

      • Joshua Myers

Rorona is still a good game to play i had fun with it

    • notentirelythere

I’m one of those BUT OPINIONS people who’d recommend Totori before Rorona Plus out of the Arland trilogy. But whether to start with Totori or Ayesha depends on your moods and preferences. Which seems to immediately appeal to you more, artwise? Go with that one!

    • Satoshi Ookami

It would be better if you started with Ayesha (as the beginning of Dusk trilogy) or at least Escha and Logy. =)

    • Akemi Homura

Thanks for the help guys :>

I’ll probably start with the Dusk Trilogy, since my backlog’s already massive as it is. I will think more about whether or not to get this LE too, since it seems awesome.

    • xanox

start with atelier rorona, then totori, and finally meruru before starting this series. The dusk series lacks a certain charm the previous 3 had. So if you play the dusk trilogy first you may be slightly disappointed by the quality.

    • Fronkhead

I’d play Totori first, and see how you go from there. It’s not really worth burning through every single available one on last gen — you’ll get burned out and the games share similarities between each other.

I’m only recommending Totori because I feel that has the best balance of adventuring, a sense of true progression and alchemy. Certainly the best pacing of the lot.

Edit: Just saw that you’re starting with Dusk — cool! If you play an Arland game, Totori is the one to pick.

  • GamerLegend

Was going to wait for Atelier Shallie Plus, but since this is limited edition and through NIS Amerca, pre-ordering now.

  • Learii

    what the released date?

    • Suppose to be March 10th for North America and March 13th for Europe.

      • Learii

        ok thx

  • JohnNiles

Decisions, decisions. Should I get the inevitably nerfed soundtrack, or import directly? I heard complaints about bugs… think those’ll be ironed out?

    • Wtv

I heard they’re already fixed, though.

      • Guest

NISA, ironing out bugs. I doubt it. If anything we’ll be lucky if they don’t

    • DyLaN

IIRC, Gust/TK released a patch that fixes those bugs. The localized ver should probably include those patches.

  • xanox

why buy this when you can buy the plus version for vita when it comes out? Comes with everything for a low price.

    • Kumiko Akimoto

Some people don’t like vitas and would rather stick to their ps3

      • Satoshi Ookami

Um… those who would buy this game, cannot NOT like Vita ;)

        • Kumiko Akimoto

I have no idea what you mean

          • Satoshi Ookami

Vita = console for gamers of J-games.
            Atelier = J-game
Ergo, one who likes Atelier cannot NOT like their Vita =D

          • Kumiko Akimoto

Uhh the ps3 has more j games then the vita and a lot of people already have it.
Ergo the 3ds is the same way but there are people who still don’t have it so.

    • it would be kind of a long wait and the vita version will probably be download only with no existing LE, which bums me out.

    • Eric Harris

because Vita versions are digital and you don’t actually own them.

      • xanox

right, so when i buy the game i DONT actually own it, right. You just won the stupid award today.

        • Mr_SP

Technically, you don’t. It’s an intellectual property thing. You own the right to use the game, but you don’t own the code. Disc versions are the same, but there’s the fear that the PSN will go down and your digital versions will be lost forever… even though it’s likely that won’t happen until your console dies and they stop selling replacement consoles.

      • darke

You don’t ‘own’ the disc versions of the game either. All you ‘own’ is the plastic disc, the game itself is licenced to you just like it’s licenced to you when you digitally download it.

The benefit of physical discs holding the licenced content is that it’s easier to transfer it between people for mutually agreeable sums of currency which is either represented in a physical, or digital form; currently it’s not possible to transfer the licence to the digital forms of the game in this way.

    • LM009

because I actually want to play the game? I don’t know why people bring this up so often, it’s the same as other games getting a GOTY repackage with all the DLCs. If you want to wait for a cheaper repackage by all mean do so, but there’s nothing wrong with buying the original game.

      • xanox

why pay for LE when it comes with the bare minimum? The plus version comes with dual audio, which WILL NOT be in the LE version.

        • Sebastian Lothian

Because of the amount of time it would take before they released the plus version.

        • LM009

Not sure you guys are getting the point, the selling point for me is the gameplay(ikr? must be hard to believe I’m playing videogames for the game). You say bare minimum but you only cited the audio(I’m not really certain on if it has dual audio or not). I want to play the vanilla game and although the plus versions might add some end-game content but the core gameplay is in the vanilla. Yes, he JP audio track is superior imo but it won’t turn me away from buying the vanilla and the plus version. Atelier’s alchemy system is fun, totally worth the replay.

  • Kornelious

WHHAAAATT!? Can it really be? An Atelier Limited Edition!? Finally they have returned! =D

This is awesome to hear, and it’s none other than NISA stepping in, just like they did for Ar NoSurge (Which makes me think that NISA might me making LE’s for Gust games from now on :D )…..Though it is gonna be weird having the entire Arland collection but only ONE Dusk LE…COuldn’t you have done this 2 games ago NISA! X(

Well i’m just happy we’re getting one…here’s to future Gust Limited Editions :D (And also to even more money eeking out of my wallet in March X( )

  • Pandakids09 .

Meh ill just wait for the plus version for the Vita

  • Raw

Wait money, don’t go out on your own yet! Stay in the sweet comfort of my wallet!

  • Linkmstr

    “OTL

  • Nytezero

Meh, I’ll just save my money and wait for Plus. It’s TK we’re talking about after all, “The King of Updated Re-releases” in this industry, right up there with Capcom.

  • NegativeZero

Is NISA still localizing these as well, or is Koei doing them internally? I know Ayesha was NISA’s localization work but that kind of happened during the Gust acquisition and I hadn’t heard whether they continued to outsource the work to NISA or not.

    • Cerzel

KT have been outsourcing them all to Actill, who are made up of former NISA employees and are of equally questionable quality. There’s been a bunch of untranslated lines left in the recent Ateliers as well as inconsistently translated terms and general screw ups, but Ar noSurge took the cake with them managing to break every single NPC’s dialogue.

      • DyLaN

Although there a TL patch for Ar nosurge released later.

  • Cerzel

NISA again, how unfortunate. The EU version will probably be priced at 70 Euro or something ridiculous like that.

    • Satoshi Ookami

Exactly my words. And exactly the first thing I thought of after reading this…
I actually would go for it, 65 bucks is pretty good, but I’m so not giving out 65€.

      • RocKM001 .

See 65 Euros is still a decent price…

We are talking about 60 *POUNDS* here. Which is nearly double converted against every major currenct =/

    • sakiu

      70€? More like 70£ :)
And thats before including shipping costs, for 90% of EU countries its 10£-20£ from EU NISA store.

  • Finally got what I wanted. Pre-ordering for all the goodies.

  • Bojan Njegomir

Can anyone put up a link for preordering EU version? Thanks!

  • Sora

Not wasting my money on that stupid EU store.. as always I’ll buy the normal version.

    • same here, also not much point of me buying the limited edition of it when I didnt get the previous 2 limited edition.

      • xanox

wait for the plus version like me, comes with everything

        • Slayven19

I like how you just assume everyone has a vita, stop that!

        • Nah no thanks. I will only play on my Vita if the game is exclusive to it. So other than that I rather play my games on the tv.

      • RocKM001 .

        *cough*
To be fair there was no “previous” Limited editions =P

The last one was for Meruru when NISA was still handling localisation before GUST was bought out by KT. Ayesha as well as E&L didn’t have LE’s for the west XD

In fact that was one of the other big stink fans made a fuss about besides the missing Jp track when KT took over xD

        • Well then, still not going to get it. Inconsistent collection is a nono for me. At least I got all 3 original soundtrack for the dusk series so I’m cool.

  • Astraea’s Eyebrow

Thank god, i want my swag.

  • Weeb

Dammit Koei Tecmo. I want to give you more money, but I ain’t giving any of that money to NISA.

    • Freud_Hater

…Why not? What’s wrong with NISA? ôo

      • Weeb

Broken release with problems not found in the japanese versions, mediocre translations, blatant lying/shitting on their customers and pointless censorship.

        • Freud_Hater

Is that so? All I ever bought from them was The Witch & The Hundred Knight Collector Edition and everything was fine… I’m sure you’re right on some level, though ^^’

        • DyLaN

NISA isn’t the one translating this. They are only handling the LE.

        • yup, it’s probably KT my friend, NISA aint done no wrong (to me) over the years. Their LE/CE sets are awesome, you should see their Hanasaku Iroha sets.

          • KT might apply to some of the other stuff, but the translation stuff was actually NISA.

        • Spirit Macardi

Ar Tonelico 2 is the only game they localized that has any of those issues. And that was two generations ago.

And censorship? If you’re talking about what they did with Mugen Souls, that was to avoid ending up with the AO rating and not having their game sold anywhere.

As for supposed blatant lying and mistreating customers, name me one instance of either of those. Hell, whenever I’ve ordered games from them, I usually get said games ahead of the time they were set to launch in stores.

          • Carlos Daniel Flores Loreto

Witch and Hundred had that XMB glitch. No idol DLCs on Nep V, Disgaea D2 and gamebreaking bug, both Danganronpas also gave me game ending glitches. And yeah, the ones that get me the most are ArTon Metafalica and Rhapsody DS. Esty Deeeeeee~ indeed.

          • Mr_SP

I played Witch and the Hundred Knight. Never had that glitch.
Neptunia V does have idol costume DLC.
I played Disgaea D2 and never heard of that gltich.
Neither Danganronpa gave me ending glitches.

I have absolutely no idea what you’re on about.

          • Carlos Daniel Flores Loreto

Well, you had good luck, doesnt mean they dont exist. Google Witch and 100 XMB, danganronpa glitch (1 on that building game at the end, 2 on the main game were my cases), Disgaea d2 glitch (patched already but was rumored that it could even fry your PS3), Neptunia V idol events.

          • Flying Fairy

            >And censorship? If you’re talking about what they did with Mugen Souls, that was to avoid ending up with the AO rating and not having their game sold anywhere.

That’s a bullshit fucking lie, as it is when they did it for Criminal Girls. That’s not what even angers me the most about them. They have no respect for accurate translations and half of the translation ends up being unfunny meme shit that was never in the original you cocksucking twat. Do some fucking research before you spout off this blindly loyal bullshit repetition you shitfaced tool.

  • Suriel Cruz

I can’t wait for the game, but not getting the limited edition.

  • Get~ting ~! ♥

  • xanox

theres a lot of fucking butthurt people here about the plus version. Yall fucking weird lol Plus version is better than ps3 version by far, end of story. dont give me that vanilla crap, plus version is vanilla too but with MORE.

    • Revyatheworldeater .

Well, there is a big leap from playing something on a handheld at qHD compared to playing it on a console on a full HD display. Not to mention that sitting arrangements and playability are fairly different (harder for people to watch or enjoy a game with you on a handheld). As well as I imagine most people have invested in better sound systems for their televisions.
Also there are a few issues with load times in comparison the console versions.
I wouldn’t call the plus version better by far, it’s just a patched version with all of the dlc and some additional content released on a handheld system which has lower specifications than the console.
If all you care about is the dlc and extras then the plus version is better; but as far as an experience is concerned the console has some advantages.

  • Istillduno

Thanks you based Tecmo, but **** the NISA Eu store, going to check some import sites I know, I mean the Wild Cards Edition for Persona Q was meant to be NIS Store exclusive but turned up elsewhere…

    • RocKM001 .

I would assume that was because Persona Q was actually announced and dated before the NISA EU store was organised hence other shops managed to stock.

As far as I can tell none of the other LE’s have been available outside of NISA Eu since =/

  • Revyatheworldeater .

Since I already have the soundtrack and the vocal record… and I’ve got the wall scroll that just came out on the way… I think I might just wait and order it from gamestop or amazon (depending on who has the better costume dlc) and possibly just import the official artworks book from Japan (as in… who would want a much smaller artbook with a low quality binding in comparison?).

I find it funny that people are stating how much better the plus version is going to be. There are three good reasons as to why I wouldn’t wait. Time, quality, and sound. It’ll be at least a good 6 months after the Japanese release of the plus game before we get it, the plus version will be played in qHD as opposed to Full HD (upscaled from HD, granted the OLED screen of the vita is very pretty), and the vita speakers/headphones just don’t compare to the experience of a good sound system for the music that these games have.

I will most likely end up getting both.

    • Zoozbuh

Also, you completely forgot to mention the LACK of physical version for the upgraded Vita version. Unless there is a huge change, all the Atelier ‘plus’ titles on Vita so far have all been digital-only in both US and EU.
Unless everyone commenting here knows Japanese and will be importing the JP Vita version, of course. But even so, you listed a bunch of reasons why it’s silly to wait that long.

      • Revyatheworldeater .

Gust Corporation/TK do some gorgeous limited editions for all of their releases. Check out the Ar nosurge plus/Ciel nosurge(offline) double pack, it’s mind blowing.

        • Xerain

It’s also only available via direct order from gust. I have the Arno Plus LE. I couldn’t afford the Cielno LE at the time I bought it, and only got the regular version. I sorely regret this..

The main difference between the double pack LE and buying them separately is that awesome case.

        • SeventhEvening

Oh, wow. I really want that. If NISA releases anything like that I would give them all of my money.

  • BlackGirlGamer123

This looks like a nice edition, but is it worth getting? Depending on the comments below, I do not have the slightest clue.

  • ehtnah

    first reaction, great ^^

second reaction oh noooooooo it will be NISA online store only, that won’t sell to Europe, and if it’s going to be sell on NISA europe store that will be soooOOOOOoo expensive, with shiping so expensive….

so meh never mind, I’m just a European so ~~

  • Yan Zhao

FINALLY TK released a damn limited edition. We already lost out on Ayesha and Logy LE.
