Luffy Transforms Into Mario In One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X

By Spencer . December 15, 2014 . 1:01am

An update for One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X scheduled for this winter will add amiibo support to Bandai Namco’s fighting game. If you use a Mario amiibo on the game you’ll unlock a costume that dresses Luffy up as Mario.

A screenshot shows Sanji dressed like Fox and Zoro as Link. These costumes are unlocked with Fox and Link amiibos, respectively. The game also supports the Luigi amiibo which also gives Luffy a costume according to an earlier report.

One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X is out now in Japan and a demo for the game is also on the Nintendo eShop.

So… do we call him “Two-Hat” Luffy now?

    • Hagaren

      Brown-stache Luffy.

  • Rayhan PromisedGallery

will it be Bowser Blackbeard or Wario Blackbeard?

  • 3PointDecoupage

I think we know who Franky will get.

    I’m really feelin’ SUUUUUPPPAAAAAH

    • Pedro Tavares

Haha from the build I’m kidna expecting Donkey Kong but Shulk would be funny.

    • CirnoTheStrongest

      Zero Suit samus?

    • AuraGuyChris

Franky? Into swimming trunks? Ha ha. It’s like telling him to wear pants, which he won’t.

    • raitouniverse

That wouldn’t make any sense, Franky’s already wearing less than Shulk.

  • Hagaren

    Now we need:
    Zero Suit Nami (or Robin)
    Dr. Law-rio (or Chopper)
    Franky Kong
    Lucina Tashigi
    Villager Usopp

    • 3PointDecoupage

Really, Franky should be Megaman. They’re both super fighting robots in blue underwear.

      • Hagaren

        That’s true!

      • True, but I’m sure that it’s far easier to get licensing permission straight from Nintendo for their characters than to ask Current Capcom for permission to use Mega Man’s image for anything other than being an outfit for a Felyne, or a fat guy in Namco’s “other Crossover title”.

Besides, we are all still waiting for the Mega Man Amiibo! Not like this game is ever getting localized… sad to say.

    • AuraGuyChris

No. Robin for Robin. They’re both avid book readers.

      • Hagaren

        That makes sense actually.

    • glenngunnerzero

Chopper would be Pikachu because of the voice actor most likely.

    • Ferofax

      Birthday Suit Nami/Robin.
      I approve.

  • Fronkhead

I was going to comment about how this all makes me cringe but funnily enough, they seem to have really embraced these costumes.

  • Spirit Macardi

Wouldn’t it make more sense to give Zoro the Fox costume, considering what “zoro” means? x3

    • AuraGuyChris

Zoro is not even a kicker. Sanji is.

They’re still pitting a character against someone else who has the same or similar fighting style.

      • Spirit Macardi

Yeah, but they still missed out on a clever gag. True they’re nothing alike in character, but it still seems like such an obvious thing to do and I’m surprised they didn’t.

  • piichan

What are the chances of this getting an english release?

    • AuraGuyChris

Average. They did give us Romance Dawn…except don’t expect Funimation to dub it into English.

      • piichan

I’m more used to the Japanese voices anyway, but since this is a brawl game, it wouldn’t really matter if it’s dubbed or not. I just hope they bring it over.

    • J_Joestar

hopefully Nintendo encourages them to bring it over, even if we don’t have 3DS compatibility with Amiibos yet, every game that can use it just ups the value of the figures.

  • Money?Muney??All my luveee!!!

They miss the chance giving Luffy as Luigi costume and Ace as Fire Fist Mario there.T_T

  • John Diamond

    smash bros looks sorta weird

  • Gon Janken

Luffy, I love ya man but if you keep whoring yourself out like this it better mean I’ll see you in Super Smash Bros. soon.

  • Namuro

    Oh, the demo’s out? Sweet…

  • Dascylus

Sorry… but Luffy would be a better Waluigi.
